  1. As I say, the computers might going to surprise a lot of people... It's the human voters than will likely keep them out. If they're kept out...
  2. I understand the rejoicing, but the College and Pro Sports Forum is a more appropriate place.
  3. The ESPN "BCS Specialist" just forecasted Ohio State-LSU in the national title game. However, we'll have to wait until tomorrow to see.
  4. Here is something interesting that I just found. The Colley Matrix (the brainchild of Abingdon's own, Wes Colley) has been the least kind of the BCS computer polls this year toward Virginia Tech. However, it has a very neat little feature to use: http://www.colleyrankings.com/playgod.html Put in the results of the top 9 teams into the simulator, and look what comes out: 1. LSU: .88161 2. Virginia Tech: .86748 3. Ohio State: .85782 Not trying to give false hope, but this is a computer system used by the BCS.
  5. Well see at 7:00 or so tomorrow. Again, strictly by the computers, I do NOT see LSU jumping Virginia Tech. If Virginia Tech does not make the national title game, then this is exactly what will happen. Book it.
  6. That's how it *should* be, but might not be how it will be, in my opinion. LSU beating a 3-loss Tennessee team will carry less weight than Virginia Tech beating a two-loss Boston College team, at least by the computers. The human voters might see the truth, here.
  7. Boy, that's a good question. Do they deserve to? I don't think so. Yes, I know the Hokies are ranked sixth and LSU is ranked seventh. However, it's hard to forget that vicious 48-7 victory by LSU in September. If a team deserves it, based on its merit (only two losses came in triple overtime), LSU (SEC champion) deserves the national title spot over Virginia Tech (ACC champion). Will they? Maybe. Here is the BCS listing, numerically: http://msn.foxsports.com/cfb/poll?poll=BCS Virginia Tech will definitely jump Kansas, and it's not inconceivable for Virginia Tech to jump Georgia. It all depends on whether the voters believe that Virginia Tech deserves to jump those two non-conference champions, and whether the computers will take this into account. I don't believe LSU will jump Virginia Tech, either: Boston College was a higher quality opponent than Tennessee, and the computers take a big look at that. Human voters might not. Ay, yay, yay. The BCS is in SHAMBLES right now...
  8. Firpo knocks Dempsey out of the ring!!! Does this season make any sense at all? Pittsburgh, hampered by absolutely putrid officiating, has just walloped the Mountaineers. In other news, Virginia Tech's loss to Boston College (knocking the Hokies out of title contention) was bad, but this is five times as bad. All the Mountaineers had to do was beat a 4-7 Pittsburgh team that they were favored by four touchdowns over! Choke job for the AGES. Since West Virginia fans love the transitive property so, so much, here's a couple new examples: 1. Virginia beat Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh beat West Virginia. Therefore, Virginia is better than West Virginia. 2. Virginia Tech beat Virginia. Virginia beat Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh beat West Virginia. Therefore, Virginia Tech is better than West Virginia.
  9. This could be some of the WORST officiating I have seen in my 22 years on this Earth. An absolutely PHANTOM holding call on Pittsburgh, and then an uncalled West Virginia hold right in front of the referree. If West Virginia wins this game, it's most definitely tainted.
  10. Phantom call? In Morgantown? Of course not! Interesting indeed, going into the fourth quarter. As it stands now, the Mountaineers are one quarter away from the Orange Bowl!
  11. The Pittsburgh-West Virginia game is a little bit surprising. West Virginia's only on top 7-3 going into the half. Statistically, West Virginia has dominated this game, holding Pittsburgh to just 75 offensive yards. Pat Bostick has also been fairly abysmal, going 3-9, 18 yards, 2 INT. Pittsburgh should feel very, very good about themselves heading into the locker room. On the other side, West Virginia might be a little nervous...
  12. No, I'm not quite crazy. Where there's smoke, there's fire: every major media outlet is reporting that Miles is staying at LSU, as is the university and Miles himself. According to ESPN, the contract is not yet finalized, but Miles and LSU have hammered out most of the details of the extension, and will likely be finalized tomorrow (since the Tigers have Tennessee on their hands right now). Check out some sources, sometime. Look on ESPN.com. Turn on to a sports channel. "Miles returns to LSU" is all over everywhere. In fact, here's the main article itself! http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3136536
  13. Look in GMan's scoreboard thread. Can't miss it. Gate City-21 George Wythe-14
  14. I'd like to congratulate Virginia Tech on winning the 2007 ACC title over Boston College, 30-16. Definitely a great season for the Hokies, who now stand at 11-2. Great recovery after the LSU defeat, not allowing more than *23* points in any of the remaining games. Fantastic job.
  15. Indeed. The AP is confirming the same thing. Miles back in the Bayou.
  16. Haha. I'm not a big Buckeye supporter, but if Missouri bows out, I'll wish them the best for your sake .
  17. That's exactly my point: no others hang in the balance. It's Missouri, West Virginia, Ohio State, or Georgia. No one else.
  18. [ QUOTE ] WVU unless they lose and Missourit unless they lose....then OSU LSU and a few others hang in the balance. [/ QUOTE ] That's not exactly right. If West Virginia or Missouri lose, then Ohio State is next in line to take the position. If both lose, which is incredibly unlikely, then Georgia (without even playing in its own conference title game) will step in to play Ohio State. Every other team is out of the running at this point.
  19. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] May not be a big bowl.....but another bowl for the Big East....we'll take it. [/ QUOTE ] The BE has tie-ins with five bowls...BCS, Gator, Tire & Muffler, Sun, and the Canadian bowl. Other than the BCS and Gator, not too impressive. And the Gator doesn't really want the BE...they can take either Notre Dame (if eligible) or a Big 12 team if they want to in place of a BE team under their new deal. Hate to tell you, BE teams are NOT a hot comodity... [/ QUOTE ] That pretty much hit the nail on the head. Catlett and his Gator Bowl committee are focusing quite a lot on the Big XII, and as strong as that conference is this year, it's hard not to blame them. Besides, if a Big East team was a hot commodity, in most likelihood the Gator Bowl committee would've already locked in the Big Easy representative. Given the at-larges in store for the Big XII, Texas Tech will likely be playing in the Gator Bowl against the ACC representative, either Virginia (possible) or Clemson (probable).
  20. Indeed. Congratulations to the Beavers on their ninth state title!
  21. Two different ones in other threads, my friend.
  22. [ QUOTE ] i started reading some more of this guys articles and just seems like he tries to start trouble. Heres the interesting part, he lied on his resume for the Indy paper saying he got a degree from some college. From what i read, he hasnt even gotten a degree! How can a guy like him get a good job doing sports for CBS without any degree? AND after he lied on a previous resume? And to top it off, Freeman wants to sue the guy who ratted him out for falsifing his resume! Shouldnt Freeman be getting sued? This guy needs to be sent away... [/ QUOTE ] Reminds me a quote from Bill Simmons: "They've lowered the requirements...If you have two arms, two legs, and a head, you're now eligible to have your own sports show". Same goes for newspapers, nowadays, it appears. It speaks incredibly poorly on CBS to continue to pay him a salary. Send his behind packin', baby.
  23. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] If you go by overall schedule, this is exactly correct. Virginia Tech's schedule is 12th in the nation, with a combined opponent record of 68-48. West Virginia is 48th, with a combined opponent record of 63-57. I'm just the messenger... [/ QUOTE ] So ur saying hawaii is the best team in the nation ? ? ? [/ QUOTE ] Hawaii's S.O.S. is last in the nation. [/ QUOTE ] Close. Hawaii's is 117th of 119. Point's well-taken and fully agreed with, though. [/ QUOTE ] yeah but they have won every game so by going by how many games they have won like where your getting ur s.o.s. they are the best team in the nation South Flordia 9-3 Flordia 9-3 so they r the same team neither is better same on s.o.s. . . not sure if that is the best way ? ? ? [/ QUOTE ] Here's where I get my strength-of-schedule information: http://web1.ncaa.org/d1mfb/2007/Internet/toughest%20schedule/tough.html If this is good enough for the NCAA, trust me, it's good enough for our purposes.
