  1. Sorry this is late. Uncle Percy decided to jump right in and start pickin’ losers after checkin’ some schedules and doin’ a little researching’. Uncle Percy has noticed some thangs have changed since we last picked some losers. Greg Mance has takin’ off to South Carolina to play beach ball, the Bluefield paper doesn’t deliver on Saturdays, the Bristol paper doesn’t come this far, more Mamby Pambys in the world, we a have a Woke for President. Speaking of newspapers, this is about the sorriest job anyone could do when covering high school football in the history of covering high school football. No Saturday Bluefield to read, never hardly see any results, no standings, no individual stats….. basically nothing. We saw where Coach Hubbard of Honaker is retiring after 39 years. Coach Hubbard, congratulations on winning The Buzzard’s Roost Trophy. Beat Grungey Friday and you are on the way to winning another BDD Title. Let’s pick some losers. I believe first loser of the year is going to please a lot of folks. Richlands at Bluefield, WV The Big Blue Win Machine appears to have fallen on hard times. September has been a month of failures. Looks like it has been a month of Big Fat ZEROS (wins and points). One might think they have their seasons mixed up since they played football in the spring during baseball season. We don’t know much about The Flattails, Uncle Percy is still researching, not much in the Bluefield newspaper. We know the Princeton Tigers stepped hard on their tails and they won’t win The Four Seasons Trophy. We do know that they have speed and can score, something that will make the Blues bluer. We hear The Wuhan is bad in Mercer County. Richlands had better hope they get to play because if the game is canceled because of The Wuhan Virus, then it will be an O-fer month for the Blues. No TDS, XP’s, FGS, hits, runs, oops wrong season, NO WINS. Looks like the Big Blue Win Machine may become The Little Blue Fizzle Machine and we all know what a fizzle is. Loser: Little Blue Fizzle Machine Lebanon at VA High When VA High played Tazewell to start the season we figured we would see a good Cat and Dog Fight. It turned out to be a Cat Race. These Bearcats have not stopped running yet. They’ve been running up the points and wins ever since. The Long Hunters of the Clinch have started the hunting season off slow and are looking for a good hunt when they travel to Bristol this Friday Night. They have picked the wrong prey this weekend, because these Cats are too quick and sly to be bagged. Look for the BearCats to run laps around the Long Hunters ( little NASCAR thar, it is Bristol) at this Friday Night Race. The Long Hunters will probably wished they had gone to a Turtle Race. Loser: Lebanon John Battle at Patrick Henry The Chariot Riders of Ab-tol called off this past Friday’s game with Tazewell (Nov. 2) because of The Wuhan. If they decide to travel to The Glade Springs this Friday Night for some Healing Waters they would find them. All they’ll find is a bunch of Rowdy Rebels who are known for their Non-Southern Hospitality on Friday Nights in recent years. This old rivalry will turn out be an one-sided affair because these Rebels cannot only score points quickly but they can be downright inhospitable. If you’re traveling down I-81 Friday Night towards Bristol, be careful and watch out for lot of damaged chariots around 10 o’clock. Loser: John Battle Sat. 1:00, Riverheads at Tazewell This was an eye opener game back in the Spring. After sitting on the porch for several seasons, the Bull Puppies showed they were able to not only run with the Big Dogs, but we’re able to lead the pack at times. I believe (correct us if we are wrong here, remember we have been retired) Riverheads had to come from behind to win. As we know, Riverheads is one of the Big Dogs year in and year out, usually in the State Semis/ Finals. A lot of the BIGGER Schools in their area want nothing to do with them in football. Tazewell lost some of their Big Dogs from the Spring and are having to adjust with some younger dogs right now. The win over The Knights of the Kettlebottom from Welch, WV,showed the pups may be getting ready to turn it around after losing to VA High and Graham. It gets better for Tazewell next week (Grungey) but not this week. Loser: Tazewell
  2. That’s right folks. We’re back. I finally talked Uncle Percy to UN RETIRE this week. The deal maker, its the 25th Anniversary of a certain football game. More on that later. Uncle Percy wants a little time to study some teams before to picks a bunch of losers. Salem and Abington, you already know that you all will always be losers to Uncle Percy (majority of high school football fans also). Warning!!! Uncle Percy is a little more radical now since they say a certain idiot won the 2020 election instead of Trump. So GMAN, I may need your help if he gets too wild with his pickin’s. You know how he hates political correctness and Mamby Pambys. So, those of you who know Uncle Percy, lets have some fun, those of you who don’t, you’ve been warned. See you soon. Lil’ Leonard.
  3. If, If, If. If a Bull Frog had wings, then It wouldn't kick Itself in the butt every time It jumped.
  4. Well Folks, we would like to apologize about the wrong location of the Castlewood/Honaker game last Friday. Seems like Uncle Percy and Cousin Delbert got their A's & H's mixed up while selecting last week's games. Cousin Hoyt told me that I was "Not To Smart" by allowing these two to pick anything. Cousin Hoyt said that it doesn't a math scholar to figure out that P + D = Purty Dumb. Lets pick this week's losers. Giles at Graham The Feds were successful in capturing the Tazewell Bull Pups. Seems like the town of Bristol had put out an APB on the Bull Pups for disturbing the peace, chasing Bearkats up trees, and mauling Bearkats. Seems like The Feds had no problem apprending these "felons" after the Flat Tail Smackin' they received the previous week. Looks like the "Chicken Wang" may still be broken. The Sparatans have had 2 rough outings to start the season against Blacksburg and Christiansburg. Doesn't look like it's going to get any better this Friday. The Feds should have "The Case of The Broken Wang" solve pretty quick with very little trouble. Lil Leonard's Loser : Giles Chilhowie at Narrows Keeping it on The New River. The Big Green Wave will try to over turn a bunch of canoes with a bunch of Wild Indians on the warpath as they reach the Narrows Bridge this Friday Nite. Now the Green Wave is off to a 2 - 0 start. Last week they gave The Shaker Cats a serious scrubbing and we all know how cats don't like water. Now the Warriors of Chilhowie have taken up the warpath just like last year and have already scalped 2 opponents. These Warriors may have lost several braves from last year's war party but they're still a force to be reckoned with. The Big Green Wave will find out quick that these Warriors can canoe on any type of rough water they encounter. Lil! Leonard's Loser: Narrows Patrick Henry at Hurley Cousin Delbert said he would bet the farm on this pick because the loser would be The Rebels. DUH. Well The Glade Rebels will be crossing over The Rock House Mountain to encounter The Cliff Rebels this Friday Nite. Something will have to give this Friday Nite because both Brigades are 2 - 0. The Cliff Rebels have a new General this year and he will try several flanking moves to try to achieve a victory. However, The Glade Rebels are a veteran bunch of fighters with a veteran General. They will stop The Cliff Rebel's flanking moves and launch a counterattack that will pin The Cliff Rebels against their Cliff and force an unconditional surrender. Lil Leonard's Loser: The Cliff Rebels J. I. Burton at Lee Two weeks ago a bunch of Generals crept up the Powell Valley to hunt some Bears. They found a bunch of hungry Bears and ran back down the valley with these Bears clawing their behinds. Now The Black Raiders have been chased by a pack of hungry Wolves. Fought a losing battle against Indians. The Black Raiders will try to launch a surprise raid on the Lee Generals Headquarters this Friday Nite. Look for this toughen Black Raiders to have a successful raid on the Generals' Headquarters. They'll be riding home with a victory. Lil Leonard's Loser: Lee High
  5. Where ever #77 pulls to, there you will find the ball carrier.
  6. Well folks, we're back and unretired. Uncle Percy was wanting to unretire last year when his UN-beloved Salem Toy Soldiers lost 3 in a row (I believe that was last year). Uncle Percy was doing cartwheels, back flips, jumping up and clicking his heels together, and even won a Flat Footin' Contest. (1- he can't dance worth a lick; 2- we all thought he had a "bad" back). That was UNTIL, UNTIL he and Cousin Delbert went to Johnson City, TN and got to see The Donald J Trump, President, third row seats. Well folks football pickin' was out and politicin' was in. Didn't take long for Uncle Percy to find out he was much better at football pickin' than be a politician. We had our picks for last week but, Uncle Percy ran off with them in his pocket when he and Delbert went off chasing a U.S. Senator from Virginia. Time to pick some losers. Bluefield, WV at Princeton This is the opener for the Tigers. The Tigers haven't had much success against the Flat Tails in a long, long, long, long time. They hope to change this Friday. The Flat Tails smacked the Feds around last week and won their "track" meet. The Flat Tails will be looking to defend and win another Mercer Cup (The Feds are included) this Friday. The Tigers will come out roaring but will find out that no matter how loud you roar, a Tiger is no match for a Flat Tail. Lil' Leonard's Loser: Princeton Honaker and Castlewood: The Orange Tabbies will cross Buzzard's Roost to take on the Blue Imps of Castlewood this Friday trying to claim another Buzzard's Roost Trophy. The Tabbies clawed their way to a victory over The Buckskin LongRifles of Lebanon last Friday. However, The Blue Imps ran into a bunch of Rowdy Rebels last week and it was not pretty. We doubt that The Imps will have enough time to repair and resharpen their pitchforks by Friday for a Tabbie attack. Looks like "Dean" Hubbard's Orange Tabbies will be taking home The Buzzard's Roost Trophy. Lil Leonard's Loser: Castlewood Richlands and Union Coach did not win number 200 last week and Uncle Percy had written a nice little jingle about the Generals and Bears last week. This week The Big Blue Wind Machine will be blowing into Bullit Park to do some Bear wrestling. The Bears sharpened their claws last week against a bunch of, not to well armed for Bear Hunting, Generals. The BBWM will be blowing extra hard this Friday after their lost to Gate City. The BBWM will be flinging the ball all over the place, Yet, they will not have enough wind to blow these Bears away. Lil Leonard's Loser: Sorry Coach Mance, Richlands. Rye Cove and Hurley Interesting game, both are 1 - 0. The Eagles will be flying into The Cliff hoping to build a Roost on top of it. Don't know much about the 1 - 0 Eagles because they have yet to play a game. Last week they won 1 - 0 over the Jenkins Cavaliers by forfeit. Now the Rebels rolled into Naugatuck and came away with a hard fought victory over The Tug Valley Brawlers. Now Naugatuck is a tough place, even on Sundays, to win a football game. These Eagles may be in big, big trouble. Look for The Eagles to be flying home minus a lot of tail feathers. Lil' Leonard's Loser: Rye Cove
  7. Eligibility does not start until a student enters the 9th grade. At that time, to the best of my knowledge, it does not matter where they live because that would be their eligibility address. However, I believe after their eligibility starts at that school, then, if the student then decides to move to another school, he must live in that school district with his family. It's been awhile since I dealt with eligibility, some things may have changed. Residence used to be a big problem in Hampton, Newport News, Portsmouth, Norfolk. Lot of accusations of false addresses, eligibility, and the "R" word. If I'm wrong let me know.
  8. Big 3 at Grundy during this time were Rowe, Compton, and Newberry. Not Plymal.
  9. Look to see Union have several 15 to 20 play drives and eat the clock. I believe Coach Turner knows a "little bit" about a double tight T formation with some unbalanced line or some double tight Power I. Appomattox can't score if they don't have the ball. Grind it out and they'll get anxious on offense and make a few mistakes.
  10. Several of you have been Talking about Hurley's weak schedule. Hurley should start now trying to schedule Tazewell, Lebanon, and Pikeville for the next scheduling cycle. That would give them two 2A schools and a tough 1A school. Tazewell and Lebanon could be tougher in two years and Pikeville is usually good ever year. Look for Richlands to drop Grundy because they be a 1A school.
  11. . Just would not be what they need. Need someone who not only can turn the program around, remold attitudes, that includes the parents to, and provide stability to the program. Someone who will come in on day one and tell it like it's going to be. We are here to build a winning program, if you want to be a part of that, great, if not, that's fine also. We will do it our way.
  12. After reading all of these posts, it appears that the Tazewell football program needs an outsider to come in. Kevin S., no disrespect intended, is definitely not the man for the job. Barry Jones is one heck of a coach, but VRS could be a problem. You need someone who doesn't know the parents or political connections. Someone who has the experience and knows how to handle the parents, etc. Like I posted before, I know someone who would be what Tazewell needs. Might take the job if he can bring 2 of his assistant coaches along. One other thing, these 3 characters hate losing.
  13. If Appomattox and Union both win this weekend, they will play each other in round 3 the following weekend. Still a lot of football to be played before round 5.
  14. He never coached at Tazewell.
  15. Not Dennis Vaught. The Puppet Masters would be in for a big surprise. This man and his 2 assistants would just laugh at them.
  16. Like I said earlier, just a rumor, but he is interested. If he decides to apply and was to get it, would be a big surprise for several. Especially for his former school. It would blow their minds.
  17. Cousin is very good. I think Cooke May be a little better. He can hurt you 3 ways, rec. run, and returns.
  18. Not a former coach at Tazewell. Coached at another school. Very successful.
  19. GW - Hurley will be interesting. Speed versus Power.
  20. And that tough schedule is why the Gate City - Glenvar game may be the only close 2A West game this weekend. Also the only game where the lower seed beats an upper seed.
  21. Just a rumor now. There is a former head coach that is interested. However, he wants to bring 2 of his former assistants with him. This guy is no puppet nor are the 2 assistants. All are tough, no nonsense, and hate to lose.
  22. Ignore him, doesn't know his Tazewell County geography.
  23. Nope, Martinsville-Grundy. Grundy can't stop Z Hairston, I believe he scored 6 TDs this past Friday, could do the same or more against Grundy. Would not be surprised to see Martinsville put up 60 or more on the scoreboard even with a 2nd half running clock, unless Martinsville's coach calls the dogs off very early.
  25. Since you've pulled a Hillary on me and my question, you know that thing she does when asked about Bill and All his sweethearts, I may stop asking but I think a lot of the posters all ready know the answer. When I started this post, if was about what ifs and could happens. Being around football coaches for well over half of my life, things start getting a little bit "squirmie" as the playoffs get close. A lot of coaches start looking at what ifs and if this could happen. I bet Greg Tester was hoping for some big upsets Friday in bonus point games for GW so he could hold onto the #2 seed just as other coaches were hoping for games to go their way so they could hold onto seeds or move up. VA High jumped from #19 to #16 is a good example of the "what ifs". Probably, you and some other posters may not fully understand this, especially your minion RiverRat24' but a few will. Heck, you have even accused me of being stupid and lacking math skills. But I have never seen you in any of the coach's offices that I have been over the years figuring power points, what ifs, and hoping for the could happens with over coaches. Now Tuesday, I have yet to decide whether to vote Trump or write in G-MAN. Now if he names ole wave his VP, Union Fan his Secretary of State, and Ole Rebel his Secretary of State, he has my vote.
