  1. Keep in mind Trigger that GW did this with a fraction of the passing yardage that they have averaged per game. Considering how weak GWs running game is, this isn't a bad win. Game by game is how each team should take the season because dynamics change throughout the season....mentally and physically.
  2. Their best running back isn't playing.
  3. A couple of big differences between games and scrimmages are preparation, solid game plans, special teams. For GW, it helps that the teams in the scrimmages don't see GW very often, if at all. Teams on their schedule can usually read them like a book. Special teams have been a BIG issue for GW for years. I would like to see GW win a close game due to their leadership and not just when they out talent other teams.
  4. Certainly one of the benefits of having one of the worst running games in the school's history. Can you remember a year that GW didn't have a contender for all district at the RB position?
  5. He is actually supposed to be in the 10th grade. He spent two years in the 8th grade. That height is about right, but I think he weighs more than that. I read in the newspaper where he benched 325 pounds at the 181 lb weight class. He doesn't seem to be used much for some reason.
  6. Everything on paper tells me i am a fool for thinking this, but it is just a gut feeling. I will let you know Friday if is was a true gut feeling or just "gas".
  7. Just a strange feeling, but I see GW going in as the underdog and not much to lose. I see Floyd going in over confident, but tight. I think GW pulls a complete game together and narrowly slides by. No matter how much logic wants to come in to play, something tells me this is the week GW puts a game together.
  8. I am not sure what the person meant who said that Fort Chiswell would be a good tune up game, but in my eyes it means that FC will give GW a challange. Historically, FC has lost to GW by 50+ points and was never considered anything but a chance to get someone hurt. FC has improved over the past years somewhat and with the added incentive of beating a county rival, anything could happen. GW doesn't need to be taking any team lightly. For some reason I do expect them to give a more well rounded performance against Floyd.
  9. Hey bud, do you really think it is the GW fans who are "bent out of shape" on this thread? I certainly am not downing Marion. I just have an issue with fans who spout off things like GW is bigger than Marion without knowing the truth. Don't be so defensive. Be proud of your team, but make sure you know what you are talking about if you want any respect on this board. My opinion on Holston is that they do have a good D1 team. Just like Chilhowie though, they traditionally play weaker teams at the beginning of their schedule and then reality hits when the back end of their schedule comes around. GW used to do this until they sat home on a 9-1 record, then someone woke up and started scheduling tougher non district games for points. I was glad to see GW start going over to Bluefield to scrimmage some very strong programs. I think this type scheduling sets a program apart from others who choose to play their non district games with teams of a lower division just for a better record.
  10. How do you get that GW is bigger than Marion? See below enrollment numbers for the past 8 years for both teams, as proivded by the Virginia Department of Education. George Wythe(W) 436 457 460 467 467 441 456 468 Marion 825 814 797 769 780 793 828 821 If you want Marion to get respect for their program, you will need to build a program worthy of respect. You can't play all single A teams on your non-district schedule, that are almost half your enrollment, and then come on here and talk junk to the same single A schools. Everyone on here brags about their team from time to time, but at least get your facts straight before you try to defend your team. Most single A teams that play Marion only do so for the easy points that come from playing up, win or lose. GW would rather play historically qualilty teams so they can build their program up. (especially after the 9-1 season that kept them home on the point system) I don't have any problem with Marion, only fans from Marion who think that just because GW puts out strong teams, it must be because they are bigger than everyone they play.
  11. I just found this on the internet. Michael dazzled his coaches with his physical tools, running the 40 in 4.33 seconds and posting a vertical leap of 40 and 1/2 inches Groves may be able to make it to the pros since he can outrun Vick. Good luck Ronnie! It would be nice to see someone from the Hogo go Pro.
  12. I am pretty sure that no one in the Hogo is running a 4.3 40. Didn't Michael Vick run close to that time? How did Groves do in the 100 meters in State this year? If he is running a 4.3 40, he should be running about a 10.5 100 meter time.
  13. With Gentry, Eli and Evan, that team should do very well again next year. They are all playing AAU ball together now.
  14. Princeton has never had a problem with raising money. They have several key parents who have donated a lot of money to programs that their sons participate in. I am not sure about the "political" money, but I am sure about the private money.
  15. GC doesn't match up well with Gretna. Not many single A teams do, if any. This will be a very difficult game for your boys to end the season on, but don't feel bad because no other team would have been able to come within 40 points of them either. GW played like they didn't want to meet Gretna and were ready for basketball season. I hope you guys stay healthy after this game so that we can see you again in basketball. Best wishes, but every once in a while a team like Gretna comes along and has too much talent for others to handle. GC is playing well, but they do not match up well with the Gretna offense. Your type of offense controls the ball and uses up the clock. Gretna doesn't give their opponents the ball long enough to do this, yet they score seemingly at will. I would like to see the moons line up and you all beat them. At least you made it to the state championship game. This is usually when someone says that they might as well not even show up for the game. This time it wouldn't be considered sarcastic. If anyone could prepare a game plan to at least come out of this game with some dignity it would be Colobro. Good luck!
