The only way i would want to see a rematch is if it were in Wheeling. Right now i think it would be de-ja-vu.

Well, James Monroe is advancing to round two after beating Liberty 12-10. Now I didn't go to the game but I listened to about the last 7 minutes of the game and I am not very happy. If there is any Mavs fans who attended the game and have an explanation for the close score I would love to hear it. I am a faithful Mavs fan but I was not impressed by our performance. I know that playing in a rematch is always dangerous but guys, we are not going to be around for week three if we don't step it up. I was impressed to here that Newman was held to about 50 yards on 18 carries but guys we have got to do more on offense and we were burnt on a pass play late in the game that would have given Liberty the lead but luckly he lost his footing. So guys good job on the win and coach Witt, start getting creative.

I know I'm going to get slammed for my opinion but the best all around player I've personally seen play is Ben Thornton. I know Issabelle was great and I have a lot of respect for Amahad Bradshaw but Ben was the type of guy who could pick a team up and carry them on his shoulders. I know he is not at a prestijuce college but one thing that people outside Monroe County wouldn't be aware of and that is that football players in the past have gotten recognition and playing time by their last name. Talk to almost anyone in Monroe County and they'll tell you that when teams like Marshall and VT scouted Ben that his coach for whatever reason didn't give him a good reference. I know I'm probably alone on this, but Ben will always have my respect as a top notch player and an all around good guy.

No see you Bluefield guys miss the entire point. We didn't play well and the score at halftime was only 13-0. Had our defense forced you to run the ball by defending the pass better and if we had thrown the ball more effectivly then that ball game would have been much closer. I'm not saying that we are going to improve and beat you guys in the semis, provided we get there, but if we do it won't be a five touchdown difference in scores. Oh, whoever was talking about the refs trying to keep it close please shut up. EVERYONE KNOWS THAT THERE IS MORE HOMECOOKING AT MITCHELL STADIUM THAN AT GRANDMA'S HOUSE AT THANKSGIVING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My biggest suprise was Richlands as well. I don't keep up with Virginia football that much but they have went from usually an average 6 or 7 game winning season to being a team to rekon with. My biggest dissapointment locally would be Beckly because with all the football tradition they have had it has been several years since they had a good team. Overall my biggest dissapointment has been Poca. I know that after winning three state titles straight that you have to come down sooner or later but man talk about going from the penthouse to the outhouse.

This is the bottom line guys. Ok, yes Bluefield is a better team than JM this year. The other thing is that I despise Bluefield and will pull for anyone over them and you guys are a lot of the reason. In my opinion Bluefield fans for the most part are cocky and arrogant. The only Beaver fan that I have found on this thread that I respect is Buzzsawbeaver and I met a very nice lady from Bluefield at our game earlier in the year. But most of you guys read threads in a way to start arguments. If you read down through this thread I have respected Bluefield as a team the entire time. Beaverball said that I said that the Beaver's D had nothing to do with our loss. I did not, I said that our 1 Demensional offense had more to do with it than Bluefields outstanding defense. Therefore, Bluefield you have a great football team, whose players carry themselves better than most of your fans.

Oh, I didn't think that you were saying that JM was better than Weir. I was just thrilled at the thought that playing in Lindside may give us a 7-10 point edge. As for the reason we were held scoreless against Bluefield, our 1 demensionale offense had more to do with it than Bluefield's defense. I acknowledge that Bluefield's D is good but who can't do well on defense when all you have to do is put 11 guys in the box. If Bluefield never passed the entire game against JM I doubt they would have scored more than 14 points if that. So don't pat yourself on the back too much. Our offense made it fairly easy for your defense. GO MAVS and GO GOLDEN KNIGHTS. Man I never thought I'd say that.

Well I'm glad to hear that. I don't know much about Weir as far as if they like to run or pass or if they have a big line. All I know is that they are well respected around the state and have had a good season. I know this has been said several times but whether it is against Liberty, Weir, Bluefield or whoever, we have got to make the defense play us honest by opening up our intermidiate passing game. We don't need to throw the bomb, we just need to be more effective in our 5-15 yard passing game. We also need to improve greatly on passing defense. These two things doomed us aganst Bluefield. Not to take anything away from Bluefield, they have a great team but there is something wrong when we can't even score. We are better than that.

Nothing against Shady but I think that Ravenswood will be tough to beat. I'm sure that you are aware of that and are not taking them for granted. You may not want my opinion but I think it will be Bluefield vs Weir and Wayne vs Ravenswood.

I agree my freind. Giles makes the single wing work and they do it by ixing the run and the pass. So that leaves one of two options. Either we don't have anyone capable of throwing the ball well or Coach Witt just cannot or will not use the pass effectivly.

I don't see Liberty as a big problem, providing we play well. For any Mavs out there who saw the first game at Liberty; keep in mind that we didn't score at all in the second half. I think that Coach Witt had best already be starting to do some new things on offense like passing to keep the defense honest. If we don't we may not be able to run the ball down Liberty's throat again and we sure as heck won't against Weir or Bluefield if we make it that far.

If all goes well this could be an easy first round for JM. I know how dangerous it is to face a team in the playoffs that you beat easily in the regular season. Liberty, however, has struggled since JM gave them their first loss. This is due largely to the absence of their starting QB. I think JM really needs to focus on opening up our passing on offense and shutting down the pass on defense. If we can get out ahead of Liberty in the first half like we did before we need to try and take advantage of the opportunity to work on passing.This killed us against Bluefield and if we don't improve we may not even have to worry about facing them again in the semis. Providing we do beat Liberty we will either face Sherman "unlikely" or a very tough Weir team.

Does anyone know approximately what time the results will be out and where to find them?

That should be a nice matchup. Mount View has a history of pulling off upsets in the playoffs. However, with the scare they gave Bluefield earlier in the year I think Bluefield will be better prepared than if they had blown MV out of the water.

Yeah, if I were Bluefield I wouldn't count ou Wayne just yet. And while I do think Weir should have recieved harsher punishment I think all teams would be wise to not look past round one. I wouldn't be filling in the two championship contenders just yet, there is a lot of football to be played between now and then.

Actually we did stop one drive and you just backed up my point. You dominated the game and still only scored 34 points. Just think what would have happened had our offense been able to finish off drives. You wouldn't have had the ball as much and wouldn't have even scored 34 points. Look Bluefield controlled the game after the first quarter. We kept it close until halftime but you guys pulled away in the third quarter. I do look for Bluefield to have trouble getting back to Wheeling. Our guys played well against your run, injured Steptoe or not. The fact is you didn't get above the 40 point mark like you have done against most of your opponents.

Oh, I'm not for a minute going to say that our coach was the reason we lost. There were some things he did that I didn't agree with but you have that with any coach.We got beat by a better football team. As for the beatable part, your run game wasn't as good as I thought it would be. I think that if Bluefield faces a team with a big line that can run the ball down your throat and has a defense that can stop the pass then Bluefield may be in trouble. Please don't talk to me about penalties, thats just an excuse. We get state appointed refs just like everyone else. Oh, yeah one of your touchdowns came as a result of the ref throwing a block for you on the sideline. Not to say you wouldn't have scored on the drive but he wouldn't have scored on that play. One thing thats true, regardless of refs, we only gave up three more points to Bluefield than Martinsburg and your starters played the entire game. What's up with that, trying to run up the score.

I'm shocked, it is almost 11:00 and no Bluefield fan has put up a post trashing JM. So i guess I get to say my peace before all of the trash talk begins. Bottom line the better team won tonight. You gotta give Bluefield credit they have a great team this year. I think that one thing that caught up with us tonight was that we are pretty one demesional on offense. We haven't thrown the ball much all year because up until tonight we haven't had to. Bluefield played an almost flauless game minus an interception and several penalties. Losing tonight hurt but at least I personally don't have much crow to eat. I never said we would win, I think we could have given them a better game but we didn't and thats not an excuse it's just facts. I did stay until the end of the game as I said I would and I'm proud of the Mavs fans for being pretty faithful to stay til the end. I can't remeber which Bluefield fan prdicted 49-6 but you were wrong obviously. I'm really proud of our 9-1 season and I give Bluefield credit they are the best team in AA so far but looking at them tonight I do think they are beatable. One thing I would like to point out to my shame as well as many other fans. It amazed me tonight after all the trash talk this week to see the kids that play the game shake hands, congradulate each other, and get together to have prayer. It is pretty pitiful when the players demonstrate more maturity and sportsmanship than the adult fans do.

Hey man don't worry about Sources he must just like to run his mouth to here himself. Hey Sources could you come up with something new besides oh we've been in five championships over the last ten years. SO WHAT YOU LOST ALL BUT ONE OF THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And yes we haven't been yet but we've been darn close twice and thats not bad for only a ten year exhistence. I will also say that in 99 and definetly in the 02 playoff games the game for us was lost by the guy on the sidelines making the calls not the guys playing on the field. And just so you don't think I'm making excuses in 98 we did get beat by a good Dupont team who lost to an awesome Weir team.

No more like the Beavers at Wheeling in 99, 02, and 03. And don't say at least we made it. Ever heard of the Buffalo Bills. Yeah I'm sure they are proud of being the team that was the first place loser 4 years in a row.

Just let me know if they are going to at least have to forfeit one. The reason I'm so interested is that if we lose tomorrow night Weir is really the wild card team that may knock us out of the top four if they don't lose again.

Do you honestly think that Bluefield will score 49 points or are you just blowing smoke. I will be supprised if the score more than 28 and it may be lower than that.

That sounds good man. If we play well we definetly have a shot. I hope the Bluefield players have the same attitude that most of their fans seem to. Oh, did you hear about Weir?
