  1. can someone post scores... not looking for a play by play
  2. what happened to the Brooke head coach?
  3. I hope Pikeview wins... the first game between these 2 teams was close, and I was surprised when that happened. But then when Pikeview played James Monroe tough, (but outplayed JM from what I've heard from some) I thought maybe they weren't a fluke. I think they win 21 - 19 (I see Pikeview scoring first, then Westside scoring and missing the PAT... then they start going for 2 after that to try and make up... call me crazy)
  4. I just read the story about the black women being beat up at Cracker Barrell - wowsa! that's crazy!!! the first thing I think is, where was everyone at? why did no one try to help? at the least, that dude woulda caught one of those big 'ol rockin chairs upside his head if I was there. with the 1st case, where the white woman got hit, I don't know if the guy was yelling stupid honkie or anything like that. but for some reason, I just see those as 2 different cases. the 2nd case makes me more upset (I am white). there was no sense in that.
  5. Wayne and Magnolia will both handle business I think Sherman could *possibly* get beat by Chapmanville Frankfort shouldn't have any issues with Hoover I think Pikeview drew a tough 1st round opponent and will be sent home Bluefield should roll over LR... hoping for the the Sherman upset for 2nd home game Keyser should be a tight win over PP I think JM will beat Ravenswood to set up round 2 at Wayne anyone see anything differently?
  6. I would have to say Pikeview... they have a tradition of losing... all their games... every year!!! right now, they are 6-3, and look like they'll make the playoffs. I remember how shocked people were that they won the 1st game of the year. then when they won the 2nd, etc, etc... when going to our games (Bluefield), people in the stands are talking about it and saying they are happy for them and want them to win. it seems like the whole county is rooting for them but secretely, I want to play them in the playoffs ;)
  7. thank you - I looked all over for that... I really thought they'd get more off for Thanksgiving.
  8. Wayne plays Logan (should be a win Magnolia plays Grafton (should be a win) Sherman plays Mount Hope (should be a win) Westside is finished for the season Frankfort plays Hampshire this week (#20 in AAA) Ravenswood plays Ripley (#9 in AAA) Bluefield plays Robert C Byrd (#14 in AAA) those last 3 teams might be in for a scramble... I'd like for either Frankfort or Ravenswood to lose, and a Bluefield win... which would bump them up one spot, and have a potential 2nd round game against Sherman

  10. does anyone know the holiday schedule for Mercer County schools? what days will they be off for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years?
  11. I know this is happening all around the country, but here is the email I had in my inbox this morning from President Steger... kinda makes me nervous (even though I'm considered university critical staff, and just had my faculty/staff contract renewed for a year). any way it goes - I'm very thankful that I've got a good job now, and have another to fall back on. ================================================ Dear Virginia Tech Faculty and Staff As you know, the university is facing significant reductions in state operations support. By the time we begin Fiscal Year 10-11 in July of next year, we will have experienced a loss of more than $68 million in state base budget support over three fiscal years. We have not yet felt the full effect of these reductions because this year’s budget appropriations have been offset by the addition of about $30 million in federal stimulus monies. However, in July 2010, we will have significantly less state funds to operate than we do now. Planning now affords us more time to make well reasoned changes in our budget to accommodate the restrained fiscal landscape. I have asked senior resource managers – primarily deans and vice presidents – to begin multi-stage planning for the budget reductions. The first stage is the development of business plans in which we utilize the Alternative Severance Option for faculty and layoff/severance options for staff. These plans, essentially a description of how we might do business differently, are currently being developed. The use of ASO for faculty and the layoff/severance option for staff which provide either the traditional severance benefit or the enhanced retirement benefit, will be very limited and used only to achieve approved business objectives. The focus of our efforts at this time is only areas funded in whole or part by E&G funds. Once business plans are accepted with specific units or programs targeted for reduction, eligible employees will be notified of ASO or severance options. However, the decision to use the ASO and severance process as a budget reduction strategy belongs to senior resource managers. The ASO/severance option is not a buyout or early retirement incentive. I make you aware at this time of this planning because I am sure that campus cross-talk is churning. Additionally, the nature of our academic year business cycle demands that we have a very long planning cycle in higher education. Please be advised that only a small number of individuals likely will be eligible and qualify based on the approved business plan. Senior resource managers, if they elect to use this process, will be notifying eligible employees in early November. Faculty applications for the ASO will be due in early January. State policies will guide decisions about eligible staff participation in severance options. These severance strategies are designed to minimize the involuntary loss of campus jobs. These funding reductions are very large. But Virginia Tech has ably managed significant downturns in the past with judicious planning which adheres to our strategic plan and a focus on mission. With your help and participation, I trust that we will again emerge from the current budget crisis as strong as ever. Sincerely, Charles W. Steger President
  12. the rankings are out for WV... Bluefield is 10th... tied with PIKEVIEW!!! I don't know why, but I gotta say that I'm happy for Pikeview. I think everyone is happy that they are winning. But I'm afraid that easy schedule will cause them to get their butts kicked in the 1st round of the playoffs. 13. I called DTV yesterday about getting the local channels, and they told me the same thing - you'll need all new equipment (ie - receivers, dish, everything...). Getting all new equipment would cost me $118. I don't understand how a signal requires all new equipment? seems to me, that they just flip the switch on their end to unlock that channel (just like they did when I got Fox out off NY, and just like they do with my free 3 months of HBO, or Showtime, or whatever else they give me when I call for something that they can't give me.) FYI - it took me 3 or 4 tries to get Fox, and every time I called and they said I couldn't get it, they would ask if I would like some movie channel free for 90 days (to sort of ease the pain I guess)
  14. but the thing is... everyone tuned in to watch... as did I. and I even wanted Kimbo to win. somehow, his time on the show has changed the way people look at him. he may not be a talented MMA fighter, but he doesn't seem like the punk that everyone thought he was. on the other hand, that Roy (fat country) guy - is a loud mouth. and everyone wants him to get knocked out... makes me wanna watch next week (which is the point of the show).
  15. the point total for Bluefield is crazy. they are a full 2 points out in front.

  17. I still have a tough time forgetting how ALL the graham folks on here were singing his praises a couple years ago after his first game... when they upset Bluefield... and had that KrAzY play where they lined up for a field goal and then kicked it out of bounds at like the 2. everyone talked about how great he was then, and how he knew his stuff. personally, I cheer for Graham all but 1 game a year. granted I didn't go to school there and didn't play there and don't live there... but still, I bet he's the same guy that you all were singing the praises about a couple years ago. a coach does not draw up plays to be unsuccessful. if the players execute their assignments, then in theory, the play works. a coach can only call the play, he can't get out there and run 'em. when you win, everyone is happy... but start losing - and people show their character.
  18. it's gonna rain http://www.weather.com/weather/wxdetail/24701?dayNum=1&from=36hr_topnav_undeclared
  19. a friend of mine is in the voluntary fire dept, and he said it was actually the garage/work shop that caught on fire. apparently, from what he said, the guy living there did some kind of wood working or crafts or something??? and that garage had barrels of flammable materials in it that would burn and burn and burn. he said it took 3 fire departments to get it under control and out. on my way to the mall on Sunday, at 1:00, I noticed smoke coming up from it while I was sitting there at the right light. I was thinking, man - that is still smoldering? my wife came by about 3 hours later, and she said something had flamed up or something... and that a fire truck was there hosing it down again. the thing about all this - I lived up "bull tail holler" as a kid, and have went to the mall ever since it was built, and have owned a store in there for over 3 years now... I never once noticed that house - hahaha (but I have noticed the driveway there and the brick house at the top of it)
  20. I JUST told someone in the office that last night was another prime example of why I hate the pats!!! GO STEELERS!!!!!
  21. my 2 cents on the issue... or 2 points... 1) Beyonce was VERY gracious to call Taylor back up to finish (during her acceptance speech). She did the absolute right thing, at the right time. good for her... and while she was at it, she should have called him out BIG TIME and really embarrassed him. if it would have come from her, it would have put him in his place. 2) if Taylor was black, it would not have been an issue, and Kanye would have went on about his business. you would think that by now, he would be able to look past the color of someone's skin.
  22. My "player of the game" goes to the Beaver offensive and defensive lines agreed!!!
  23. who was player of the game?
  24. they flew me up there for an interview for a developer position for eXpn.com. I was so excited... I thought I was going to be on the main campus, and be rubbing elbows with all the reporters and athletes that just happen to stop by. Boy was I wrong! when I stopped at the guard shack, they pointed me up on the hill behind the main campus. but it was still cool to be there and see everything 2 more notes of interest. 1) they do the weirdest interviews. when I walked in, there were 3 other guys with suits and ties. I figured they were the interviewers waiting on me. come to find out, the scheduled us all for interviews at the same time. they put us in 4 different rooms, and 5 or 6 different teams would rotate from 1 room to the other. it was grueling for about 4 hours. me and all the others left at the same time, and they agreed that it was excruciating. 2) I was disappointed that I didn't get to see the main ESPN building or go inside, so I decided to take a bunch of pictures on my way out. you should have seen all the security running out at me. you would have thought I had a shotgun or something... but again, it was shortly after 9/11
  25. the league has drafted... go check out your picks
