It was still a quality win considering the fact that MV had never beaten Westside on their home court. I'm not saying that win would have anything to do with how the games with Bluefield turnout or the ones with Westside either. My point is that this MV team could give Bluefield or Westside a game if they're able to play to their potential and play as a team, and not as individuals.
-
Keep in mind that MV beat Westside @ Westside in their holiday tournament for the championship. MV has the talent to play with anyone this year, but the team lacks the depth and experience it had last year.
-
Best Player @ MV this year will be Cordero High the kid has the skills to play college ball, but like Powell from Bluefield his size may be what hampers him from getting the chance.
-
Alot of foolish crap has went on the past few years at Mount View such as a student getting caught with a hit list last year that they supposedly planned to execute like what happened at Colombine high, and now a bomb threat which to my knowledge is the 2nd one to happen in recent years. The school itself was just turned back over to the county, and with the way things are going the state will be taking it back shortly if things like this keep happening.
-
Not meaning to put Bradshaw down, but in my opinion he should stay until he graduates, because with the talent at the rb position in the draft this year he'll be lucky if he goes in the 6th or 7th round, and even then the team that drafts him will consider him a project which will either land him on the practice squad or nfl europe. Ahmad has talent, but there are things he needs to improve on that staying in school will give him a chance to do,and possibly give him a shot at being drafted on day 1 in 2008.
-
I didn't say that Mount View would beat East, because honestly MV lost alot of experience from last yyyears team, but with the talent on this years team they could pull the upset if everyone plays team ball, and to their ability.
On another note I seriously doubt that East has anyone that could keep up with Cordero High.
-
I couldn't honestly say how good MV has looked this year, because I'm living out of state, but I know the athletes are there, because we've always had them, but just never been able to play team ball. The current coach Kenneth Brown is probably the best bball coach the school has had,and it certainly looks like he's pushing towards putting the bball program on the right track. Mount View is 4-2 with a win over Westside @ their tournament this year. The knights were suppose to have played at Graham this past Tuesday night, but I haven't seen a score.
-
If Mount View plays to their ability they could pull the upset on East, because they will have the advantage speed, and athleticism wise while East has the edge in experience.
-
Always brightens my day to see Duke lose.
-
Maybe Bluefield,Mount View, and James Monroe should apply for membership to the Southwest District lol. I know realistically I've got a better chance of winning the lottery then that happening, and I don't even play the lottery, but if it were to happen it would be interesting to see.
-
Up until this year Mount View and Big Creek had been playing each other for the past several years, but Big Creek decided not to play MV this year, and when they seen they weren't going to be able to fill their schedule they contacted Mount View at the last minute wanting to play just after MV picked up South Point,Oh to make 10 games. No disrespect to Big Creek, but their football program has really fallen on hhard times with the lack of kids participating in football there, and the fact that they are a single A school it really doesn't benefit MV to play them, because it hurts point wise. I honestly would be surprised to see the 2 schools play each other again in football before the consolidation takes place.
-
Cordero High is just a junior,so if you're referring to the north vs south game it's for seniors only. The reason Cordero didn't get any more than an honorable mention is due to the fact that he had to sit out the first 2-3 games, because he didn't have enough practices in to play in the first 2 games for certain.
You're right about High though if he were to play in the single wing offense he could easily get 2000 yards playing 10 games, but with Mount View you'll probably never see anyone kid get those kinds of stats simply, because of all the talent on the team. High will have a good shot next year at putting up numbers, because he will be the most experienced skill position player MV has.
MV won't have the experience at receivers position that they had this year with Smith and Hale who both graduate this year, and will also have a new qb,so I'd look for MV to run the ball more next year than pass,so High will be counted on heavily.

Rockbridge beat Mount View, but the outcome of the game was heavily in their favor due to the fact that Mount View had already roasted in the heat for 30 plus minutes against George Wythe, and then had to stay on the field without another game being played before their matchup with Rockbridge. Not saying that MV would've beaten them, but it would've been nice if they had started the Grid-o-arama off against Mount ?View instead of GW,because they clearly had better athletes than GW did,so it would've been easier for a tired Mount View team to have played GW in the 2nd game then to have faced rockbridge.
To my knowledge the Mayo kid played the whole game against Martinsburg, but my point wasn't intended to take anything from Richlands it was just meant to point out that WV football wasn't as weak as alot of virginia posters made it out to be this year.
Richlands has a very respectable program in which I have no reason to discredit in any way. I wouldn't mind seeing Mount View get a series with them some time in the future.
Congrats to Richlands on a great season wrapped up with a title.
-
I wasn't even at the scrimmage, but after seeing the pictures of them posted by cougardave over on the vapreps site I thought they looked like a very good team, because you could tell they had some good athletes, especially the qb Mayo.
I just wonder with them fighting Richlands tooth and nail to the end how Richlands would compare to Martinsburg,WV who beat Rockbridge by 2 tds. The same Martinsburg team lost the state title to Parkersburg fairly easily.
Alot of people have taken swipes at WV football including 1 particular Richlands fan over on tsp this year,so maybe now that person might not be,so willing to talk about how weak wv football is overall.

Personally I believe Bluefield would be willing to play any of the southwest district teams that they don't already play. I'd also say Mount View would play any of them as well other than possibly Grundy, because of something that happened in the past.

The best thing that Bluefield's fans, and players can do is try to ignore what's going on the home side of the bleachers, because if they do something that you take offense to,and retaliate you'll be the ones that get ejected or possibly even arrested while the ones who started the crap will get away with it.
