  1. Yeah I have hacked around there a time or two. It's a fun course, and very forgiving for someone who has an unpredictable driver at times.
  2. Vote for Pedro Bigger upset Marshall beating WVU, or Cal beting Tennessee
  3. Ouch babe. I could have handled Brazil, Argentina, Spain, or Lithuania; but Greece.
  4. Both are outstanding golfers, and good guys. We should cut this stuff out and wish both well in bringing back a individual state championship to Tazewell County. (I wouldn't mind seeing a SWD team do what Magna Vista did last year.)
  5. As my screen name implies, I too suck at golf. I will tell you it is a sport.
  6. Great job. Another SWD player makes good.
  7. No doubt the Hurricane Isabel game was a blast. My wife's cousin was talking to her mom when she came across that game on TV and said "there are 65,000 idiots watching a football game in a hurricane." Her mom told her that she was related to two of those idiots; my wife and I. If Ernesto brings the rain, I'll bring my boots and poncho and we will do it all over again.
  8. Thanks to you and MHSalum for the information. This is what I like about scheduling a team from outside the area. We have to depend on guys like you to give us info. I love the chance to see a team that you may not see again until playoff time.
  9. You know sometimes we say something we wish we hadn't. I have been to Martinsville several time and have met some good folks there. I promise you will find the same hospitality here that we see when we come for the race. So bring 200 or 2,000 lets enjoy a great night of football.
  10. No I agree with Gman. I grew up in KY and have watched the big Catholic schools dominate their divisions in football for decades. The same thing has happened in basketball in the last few years. Now you have the private schools going to kids in other schools, and especially smaller schools selling them that they will get more attention and have a better chance on to play college ball if they transfer. (This promise may or may not be true, but to a 14, 15, 16 year old sounds like the pot of gold at the end of teh rainbow.) You have private schools that recruit regionally and some nationally competing against schools who do not have that advantage. I say let the private schools compete among themselves. Leave recruiting to them and to the colleges.
  11. I hope that MARVA brings a good crowd. I love it when the visitors side is lively. Maybe those Martinsvill Hokie fans will make plans to turn right on 460 and make the hour or so drive on to Bluefield and enjoy a double header. I know I am going to.
  12. Samuel L. (Anyone who has to have access to a golf course when he is on location is my kinda guy.) T.O. or Marvin Harrison
  13. Penn St. (Great old school uniforms Myrtle or Outer Banks
  14. Jenny Craig might not help. He looks like that character in the Austin Powers movies. He just might try to have her for dinner. (Me, I would like to have Jenny Craig's money or one of her race horses.)
  15. It is Friday, and time again for one of my favorite American traditions. High School football kicks off tonight. I am fortunate enough to live in a community that has great traditions. In our twin communities, one school has 8 state championships and the other has 3 state champions ships. Tonight these two schools play each other to start off the season. 10,000+ of us will cram the stadiums to enjoy the rivalry, the bands and the game. (Not bad for two towns with a combined population of about 15,000.) One week a year we are bitter rivals and after that we support each other. There are advantages to the schools being in different states. For me, High School football is what small town America is all about. Community loyalty, supporting our kids as they strive to be the best they can be, and tradition. I have been going to football games since I was in elementary school. Some of my favorite memories are of touch football behind the bleachers, marching bands with majorette with flaming batons, and watching those big boys play hard. (Nothing was cooler for us in grade school than when one of the high school players would play quarterback for our pick up games on Saturday.) I will spend most of the next three months supporting my town's team, and the team for the school where I work. I will see a lot of good action, and will get a chance to watch boys become men as they learn to handle success and adversity.
  16. War Eagle/Tigers (Gotta love 2 team names) Tazewell or GW
  17. I thought the QB they had last year wasn't too bad. He led them in rushing several games.
  18. No, I prefer this: We few, we happy few, we band of brothers; For he to-day that sheds his blood with me Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile, This day shall gentle his condition: And gentlemen in England now a-bed Shall think themselves accursed they were not here, And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day. A great little piece of literature. (Hey a little culture won't kill us.)
  19. It is the money thing again. Lets not forget that both Tazewell and Mercer Co. schools pay the exact same amount to use the City of Bluefield, WV's facility.
  20. "Full of sound and fury, signifying nothing." That about covers this thread.
  21. Let's give the guy some credit. He was taking the hazing good-naturedly. He seemed to be laughing and going with the flow. (As the new guy, he is fitting in, and becoming part of the team.) Unlike a certain Bears RB who got finked on by his teammates for leaving the sidelines during a game and watching the end from a luxury box.
  22. I saw that on Sports Center this morning. I thought he had gone to WVU to try his hand at football. I was wondering what happened to him when I heard the story on Nate Sowers & some other guy battling for the back-up's job.
  23. 101 (It's a KY thing) Christmas or New Year's Eve
