Thats pretty much how I thought it worked. I just hope if a suitable plan can be presented to the VHSL they would just go w/ it instead of dividing thing how they see fit. But maybe they will do a fine job and work out some of the issues we have been discussing on here
-
I think thats sort of the issue; are 14 - 18 year olds kids or young adult? IMO they are young adults, they need to take on some responsibility and learn that you have to work for what you want. Thats the point of HS sports; develop into adults, learn something about life(success, failure, etc) and in the process become a better person. I consider my time playing football some of the best times of my life(so far), its a privilage to play. IMO if your not willing to work at least 6 hours a week in the off season to make yourself and your team better then you dont deserve the privilage. You havent earned it Honestly I enjoyed lifting almost as much as playing ball.

swvaoutdoors - The VHSL will definately have final say on what school, is in which district. My thinking was that if all of the schools in this area could work out a distict plan that made sense and didnt put any school in too much of a bind then the VHSL may just accept it. I would rather the local schools work out a good setup themselves rather than have a VHSL committe do it for them. V-Cats - being independent is harder than you would think, filling out a schedule is VERY difficult. Thats the way(more or less) that WV does it and its hard on some schools.

Every high school sport works out year round to some extent or another; football players weight lift/run, basketball players have open gym/run, baseball players run/lift. Thats just the way it is. Summer workouts dont guarantee success, they prevent butt whoopings! If Abingdon wants to keep from getting their rears kicked in the fall then they better put in the work during the Winter, Spring and Summer. I would also like to acknowledge the players from Abingdon that are working out this summer. Nothing worth having comes easy
-
I dont think its an official policy but thats pretty much how every team that has a large turnout players runs things. Most coaches will make exceptions for work but not for the beach house lol

The way the districts shake out may very well depend on Tazewell. If they want to stay w/ Richlands a new SWD is the answer. Tazewell to Gate City is a long haul(almost 2 hrs in a car). The CMD may stay intact w/ the addition of these two teams but I doubt it. Tazewell could join Graham in the MED, they would be a good fit and that would leave Richlands free to join the CMD. I dont know how dedicated Tazewell Co is to keepin its schools together There are dozens of ways this could work out. Whats fairley certain is, LPD - Union, Eastside, Central, DC, Lee Cumberland - Thomas Walker, Rye Cove, Twin Springs, Castlewood

Grundy will be the "big dog" there but other than that the teams seem pretty balanced. Should be some good football
-
Right now Marion has AA numbers but that will change soon, their enrollment has been dropping for awhile now. The Hogo makes the most sense, they would be an all around great fit. Although Marion is alot bigger than Northwood, Holston, Rural Retreat. But dont those schools play each other in some sports already?
-
I still think the CMD will be dissolved. Would Richlands/Gate City really want to travel back and forth for district games(think basketball, volleyball, etc)? Marion will drop, it would be crazy not to. I can see the reasoning behind why Graham/Grundy played up and I still think its crazy. I dont think Honaker would want any part of a "new" SWD, they dont want anypart of Richlands(in football) now but are kinda stuck w/ them.
-
The students chose it so im not gonna put it down too much but has there ever been an more generic high school than the Eastside Spartans?
-
Sounds like it could be a good game! Two good teams w/ the same style
-
Why screwed? Radford is tough and Union could be very solid and will be all that VAHigh can handle. Beamerball, how good is Harlan Co?
-
It is definately a good thing that VA seperates its Private schools. I always wondered how some WV schools were able to play football w/ such small enrollments.
-
Its kinda odd that they allow the private schools to compete w/ the public schools. The private schools definately have an advantage.
-
From and outside point of view I dont see how Richlands could not operate out of the I some. I mean I know the QB will be good and the WRs will be solid but when you have a back like that he needs to get the ball alot. Not to mention the I makes play action more effective. Maybe some 3 wide I? Does Richlands have anyone who would make a good Fullback?
-
I could see them joining the Piedmont, but most likley joining the River Ridge. That could open the door for Cave Spring and Hidden Valley to move into the Blue Ridge w/ the other Roanoke area schools. And the BRD to move into Reg IV
-
hhstigerfan - Lebanon and Grundy in the BDD during my time would have been great! Honaker and Haysi had some great teams and I know Lebanon/Honaker is always a good game, Greundy was also solid when I played. swvaoutdoors - It just depends on when Richlands/Tazewell drop. If its next cycle alot will change if its later then change will happen later but it depends on when they drop IMO. Because when they drop what district are they gonna join? The Clinch Mtn? The Hogo? Definately not the BDD so where?
-
Are the schools divided state wide by equal 3rds or by set numbers?
-
I knew it was more complicated than I stated. Hindsight is 20/20 and I dont think very many people would argue that 1 big school was the right choice. The 4-lane makes travel very easy down there.

My understanding is The City of Norton is looking at all options and all are still being considered. Its very early in the process officially but I would bet alot is being discussed behind closed doors. My money is on norton high school students attending a Wise County school within the next 5 years. Now will norton just send their students to Wc or will Norton relinquish their city status is up in the air. Openly discussions havent moved very far but I bet everyone that has any say pretty much knows what is gonna happen. TS and RC could consolidate, it wouldnt be hard to do and if Scott Co ever consolidates which is on the horizon, it will probably not involve GC. I dont see Lee every obsorbing TW, Ewing is pretty far from Ben Hur and if that did happen Lee High would move back up to AA status. IMO Lee Co really messed up when they consolidated and left TW out of it. I guess they were trying to appease the folks from the western part of the county but IMO they should have went w/ 2 schools, one to serve the Eastern side of the county and one to serve the west. If Scott Co ever consolidates TS and RC, TW will be in a bad spot
-
Clintwood wants to stay in the LPD, they have been in the LPD for ever. I think Haysi folks are kinda indefferent on the subject. Alot of the people from Ervinton dont like the idea of consolidation period! As far as I know they dont have much of an opnion on what district DC should be in. I just feel that DC in the BDD is a bad fit(although very good geographically); DC will have an enrollment of around 700, thats almost 500 students larger than TV or Hurley and almost 600 larger than Council. An LPD w/ Lee, Union, Central and Eastside(w/ JI Burton) would be a much better fit competitively as all would be around 700 students. The same reasoning can be used for why Lee will never be in the Cumberland w/ Thomas Walker, Rye Cove and Twin Springs.

Norton is seriously considering merging their school system w/ Wise Co. Norton is not in a position to where they cant afford to operate their schools yet but they are on that road and they know it and they have the good sense to do something about it, instead of holding on until they have to dissolve their system and take whatever WC gives them. They are barganing for a deal that would benefit Norton and Wise. WC is considering building a new wing onto Coeburn HS to basically be the new school(incorporating existing cafeteria and gym facilities) but very few students of the former St Paul HS are now expected to enroll at Eastside. IF Norton/Wise merge then the chances of a completly new Eastside HS being built between Coeburn and Norton are very good. Norton would do this for a new building but have said in the past that they will not unless new buildings are built. Its only a step aweay from happening and I believe will sooner than most people think. I may way off but I dont think so, Norton needs Wise and Wise needs Norton.

I could see the 3 TC schools staying together simply because of geography. Maybe instead of the TC schools moving into the current Reg D schools they would fit better in w/ the Reg C schools? Someone mentioned the TC schools w/ the larger members of the MED, maybe thats it? If Lebanon was to join the BDD I dont see Grundy leaving.
-
Castlewood is a swing school, as far as the small schools are concerned. Im goin w/, BDD - Grundy, TV, Hurley, Council, Lebanon, Honaker CD - TW, TS, RC, Castlewood LPD - Lee, GC, Union, Central, Eastside, DC SWD(A/AA) - Graham, Tazewell, Richlands, VA High, JSB, Abingdon I think thats the best set up for everyone involved. I havent been counting JIB because they are gonna join Wise Co as a part of Eastside(thats not official but thats what gonna happen)

Another hard year in Haysi, same story as last year; alot of kids on the same level but no dominant players. I would love to see Haysi rein in the offense and put a hardnosed FB on the field but it probably wont happen. Should have a pretty solid passing attack(as always) but between the tackles running could be an issue. I think it may be a case of addition by subtraction this season. If Haysi picks up Ervinton as a 10th game, I could see a 6-4 season, maybe 7-3 but that would be a streach
