The talent level completly changed at both schools. One dropped and one rose, both dramatically. I think that had more to do w/ where the schools are currently at than coaching, although that obviously played a part
-
Its very hard to just line up and run it down anybodys throat. Graham might have kept it between the tackles but they did it 3-4 different ways and always used double teams and angle blocking, thats the trick.
Hurley runs alot of jet sweep but their counter off of the jet and their I formation stuff is straight man blocking(no angles) and that hurts them against tough teams.
Burton has ran alot of jet the past 6-7 years but their counter plays and overall concept is/was alot different than Hurleys

I thought ESG was the black HS and BSG was the white HS? Not questioning you, I was just way off.
Thanks!
-
Thats what I was talking about, how will losing those 3 D1s change things?
Apparently it wont change "the line" at all
-
I know PH has hit on some hard times and are a long way from being good, but a good coach is worth 3 wins a season(at least) and Palmer is a good coach.
Those 1000 students havent helped Abingdon in the past and I doubt they will be much help now. You are right, it will be easier for them to reload but im thinking 5-5or 4-6 for the birds(maybe worse if they have beefed up their schedule) JMO
-
PH will be fine just give Palmer some time, the Falcons on the other hand may be in some trouble. If im not mistaken they lose their QB and RB from last years very average team along w/ who knows what else. The Falcons may finish near the bottom of the SWD next season.
Palmer has run alot of different sets but leans toward a west coast style offense. I think he runs a multiple I offense, puts the WRs in alot of different places but stays in the I backfield, but he adapts to the personell he has. He likes to throw the ball around a little
-
Are we talking about the Wyatt that was at Tazewell? I thought he did a pretty good job there?
-
4 years playing at Lee, three head coaches. wow! No wonder the program was on such hard times
-
It just hit me, you dont have any Twin Valley helmets! I cant remember the details but,
Their original design 02-?
Silver helmet w/ black mask not sure on helmet stripes, im thinking 3 side by side purple white purple
next they had basically the same thing but w/ the K-State logo in black(its on the schedules page on this site)
I havent seen TV play football in several years so I dont know what they wear now
-
Moving to Reg C would definately have been an easier road in the playoffs. Powell Valley was a beast at the time and the other LPD schools were pretty good, Coeburn had some excellent teams that just couldnt beat PV
-
Haysi had T-shirts made up in the early 90s that had a Tiger and all of the other BDD schools mascots at its feet. At the top it said "look what the cats drug in". I thought it was a really cool shirt, I wish I could have seen the mural w/ all of the teams, sounds cool
-
Thanks, not sure where I got Bulldogs from?
I bought a hat the other day($1) that has Keokee High School on it, it is Navy and Yellow so I assume those were the schools colors
-
so they would leave the "line" where it is and one Section(?) would just be a little bigger than the other. That makes sence
-
Hurley is a LONG way from the nearest Cumberland school(Castlewood).
I would assume the reason for moving to the Hogo would be closer travel time?
I know a few years back Honaker was trying to get moved into Region C, it would have meant a drop to D1 for them and would have made them MUCH more competitive in the playoffs. Honaker has had several teams since '00 that would have won the Region C Division 1 title easily and maybe made a run at state but they were stuck in Region D Division 2
-
I knew it was supposed to be a 50/50ish split. Wouldnt losing 3 D1 schools push "the line" further East?
My real question is would any schools be put in a more difficult position in terms of travel time in the playoffs?
I know there was the possibility that Radford would be in the East side and would potentially have a long way to travel for playoff games. But since there are a concentration of D1 schools are in SWVA I was thinking any Eastward movement of "the line" would probably make travel times for some of the schools better
-
Wise County IS consolidating, which will throw off the D1 and D2 numbers (3 D1s lost). How do you think that is gonna effect the new playoff format?
Any idea on where the East/West "line" is gonna be?

-
Anytime, I dont know everything but I do know what im talking about. If you have any questions just PM me and I will tell you what I can.
hogo is right those are good gate games, even w/ those 3 and your CMD schedule that leaves 3 games for new/different teams
-
Just my opnions on a couple of offenses
The double slot (2 recievers 2 wingbacks) relies on having 2 quick, talented wings to carry most of the load(running and recieving) but is very flexible and can be adapted to run alot of different plays and is basically a tight Spread and can be ran as such. But there are alot of 1 on 1 blocks for everyone
The double wing (2 tightends 2 wingbacks) is power driven, and uses alot of angles and again relies on 2 wingbacks but they dont have to be quick fast or even talented, its a very "grind it out" type of offense but execution needs to be near perfect. Again everyone has to block but there are alot more double teams
two very different offenses that often get lumped together. Both are also very different from the Wing-T, or atleast use different play series as their base. Of course there are a 1000 ways to run any offensive play series
-
My understanding was that their upcomming talent would dictate thet they move to a undercenter, more run oriented offense anyway.
-
I knew some had them and some didnt (for no particular reason) in '99 almost all had them, a few even do now. In '00 some had them and we made a point of tearing them off in '01(we were trying to forget the '00 season)
The white ones w/ TIGERS may have had "spirit stickers" that were little blue paws but in not sure. I saw the logo in a friends fathers football scrapbook and the little stickers were in there with the big sticker but I dont know if they were worn or just given out
-
I know this is a hard question but, do you think it is a good move for him?
Battle seems to be promising (Whitten had something going over there) but it wont be any easier to make the playoffs and will only be a little easier to win district.
-
John S. Battle has a new head football coach, former Marion head coach Steve Wright.
