  1. 2005 has been a tough year for me and I haven't had much to smile about; but this team has been one of the few bright spots. After the game, I went down to the field and told as many of the players as I could a couple of things that have happened in my family, how much of a difference they had made by giving me something to look forward to, shook their hand, and gave them a hug. After watching them play all season, talking with them after games, and seeing how they conduct themselves; I can't help but feel all communities should be so lucky. Yea, we drove to wherever, bought hotdogs (gotta love that chile at Honaker), wore our RHS stuff, and destroyed our vocal cords; but all that is so minor compared to what you have given us. Thanks guys...... and, last but not least, thanks parents for allowing all of us to "adopt" your children for a little while.
  2. Surely you don't think this was the worst crew the Blues have had this season. I will take some trash-talking and shoving any day over constant holding, blocks in the back, blowing the play dead while Justin is still moving, etc. I yelled at them as much as anyone. My point is that, relative to what we usually get, they were not all that bad. I do agree, however, that if these games are supposed to get the cream of the crop, the crop is poor.
  3. I think the officials let way too much go on. A couple of flags at the beginning would have settled things down real quick and in a hurry. All in all, I will take this crew over some we have had this season.
  4. I was going nuts in the stands, thinking the same thing out loud.....really out loud. Too long to get the plays in, too many players on the field, not enough players on the field, wrong players on the field, and on and on. These things disrupt the flow of the game for the players and gets their minds off the play at hand. Ditto on the short yardage and red zone situations. Load up the backfield and sneak someone out if you want. If Jennings rips toward the corner, how many defenders can catch him? First and goal on the 4 yd. line, how many teams can stop Harrison on multiple carries? With Jennings up the middle without a lead blocker, it often becomes Jennings vs. a linebacker. Even with all that, the team is a rousing success. Imagine a game without the confusion and a little power football. Enough venting.......go Blues!!!!!!!!
  5. I don't think we will see this group of officials again this season. They are certainly not the caliber used during playoffs. I won't even bother to list the number and catagories of calls that were not made; but I believe their brand of officiating can get players hurt. That alone should preclude them from working any VHSL game in the future.
  6. Tazewell 21 Honaker 6 3 min. to go in the game
  7. All I want for Christmas is: -a video capture card for my laptop -the latest Star Wars DVD -Jessica Simpson -a little power-I football on third and short or inside the ten yard line Ok, I know I am being greedy.....forget the video capture card
  8. Now that's funny, I don't care who you are.
  9. Amen GMan......been there......seen that. The faces of politics may change, but the motivation remains the same.... if it be money or power, hang on to what you have and get more as fast as you can. I have seen a few exceptions thru the years, but they are rare. That is not to say that all elected officials are heartless and uncaring. It's just that, somewhere along the way, original intent fades and most are overcome by vanity, greed, or some other unseemly human trait and this affects their performance on behalf of those that entrusted them with their children, money, etc. Their job is to do the best they can with what they have to work with and our job is to see to it that they do..... and not just on election day. A big at-a-boy to Cola and all who went to the meeting. A shower tree isn't a lot; but it's more than we had last month. In itself, a single snowflake isn't much, but get enough of them together and they can shut down an interstate. Dang, I need a break..... my feet are hurting from standing on this soapbox.
  10. Thanks for the updates. I am stuck at work with no radio. Keep 'em coming if you don't mind.
  11. I don't think you will get a reply GMan. You have already exposed him for what he is and left him nowhere to go. The only thing he could do is put his RoanokeValley-itis on display once again. Bad enough to be thought a fool .... worse should he spout off a second time and remove all doubt. ......somebody smack my hand for that
  12. yea....me and everybody that would be sitting around me, I just can't leave while the game is going on
  13. I'm with Cola on this one. The Blues are off and the game I really want to watch takes place when I am in the middle of a work day........oh no!!!.....I can feel the flu coming on now......should strike about 5 AM on Sat.
  14. I can't speak to recent reasons, but I know why it didn't get built in the early to mid 90's. I won't say why, since I don't want to revisit things that are over and done and can't be changed. I will say, however, that some folks should be ashamed of themselves and probably would be if they had to explain themselves in a public forum today.
  15. The Sat. meeting is a great idea. If I didn't have to work, I would sure be there. I have sorta been on the sidelines (no pun intended) since the early 90's, when I upset people from the school board to Richmond. First over our coach and then over the outdated computers in the class rooms at RHS. Don't know if I made a difference or not with the computers, but I had some people avoiding me. The lack of a fieldhouse and the unacceptable conditions our players have had to endure, while the money just keeps rolling in, has been a sore spot with me for a LONG time. The key is to get a bunch of people committed and once you sink your teeth in, don't let go. They may act as if you don't matter at a meeting, but they can't stop you from having your own meeting, talking it up anywhere in public, and doing everything you can to cost them their precious position next election. OK.....there's my daily rant....I feel better.
