  1. Going to be a good game. Hard to gauge right now how it will go, so many unknowns for both teams. GT will come out with some wrinkles that will catch VT by surprise, just a matter of whether it will amount to points or not. May be another one of the "team with the biggest kid on the playground wins" type games.
  2. Was screwing around on #10 one night with a buddy, skipping balls back and forth. He was on the tee side and I was on the green side. We went back and forth about 4 times, and then I got a little aggressive and skipped mine into the parking lot. . . . drilled my Dad's truck
  3. Nobody will probably agree with me, but I think this is the hardest VT schedule in years. Probably one of the hardest in the past 20 years. There isn't an eye popping difficult game, but from top to bottom, definitely the hardest schedule in quite some time. I wouldn't be surprised if they went 8-4
  4. Do you believe the high school education system in the area prepares kids for the "real world"? Because it does nothing even close to that, sad but true.
  5. What are the laws regarding vouchers for private school or home schooling in Virginia? I agree with home schooling if the parent feels it will get the child the best education available, and if they are not receiving vouchers to offset the cost of home schooling then the child should be able to use the facilities and programs their taxes helped pay for.
  6. To the original poster: Whatever you get, don't pay more than ~$500 for it. The video card fried on my old dell last year, I paid 2000 for the computer when I bought it July of 2007. It lasted me about 3 years. I got a $400 HP for Christmas last year and it is significantly better than the dell I bought 3 years prior (specs wise). Just get something with at least 2GB of RAM, Windows 7, and run Chrome browser on it. You will get at least 3 years out of it and when it runs out of juice you can get a better laptop for even cheaper.
  7. Jim Delany is good friends with Swofford. They went to school together at UNC. And Delany pretty much runs the BCS, so he definitely could have given a "wink wink" to the Sugar Bowl executives. Delany also did everything in his power to get the Tatoo 5 eligible for the Sugar Bowl last year vs Arkansas, after what he did there was no way he was going to let Sugar Bowl select a Boise State type team.
  8. http://dennis-dodd.blogs.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/6270202/33715963 Gives some details on why Kansas state was left out
  9. http://www.stiffarmtrophy.com/ These guys tally the votes as voting members announce them in the media. I followed it the last couple of years and it is very accurate.
  10. Stop over thinking it. BCS = LSU vs Alabama Orange = VT vs Big East (WVU) Rose = BIG 10 vs Pac (Wisconsin vs Oregon) Fiesta = Big 12 vs At Large (Okie State vs Stanford) Sugar = At large vs Non AQ (Michigan vs Houston) Why in the world would the sugar bowl pick KSU over Michigan? Or VT over Michigan? All schools will have 2 loses. KSU doesn't travel, VT will have just lost. Michigan is a tier 1 school who has had a miserable last 5 years and just won 10 games. They are excited about their program and would love a trip to Nola. Bottom line Michigan = Tier 1 program in terms of history, tv, and fans VT = Tier 2 program KSU = Maybe a tier 2, could even be a tier 3
  11. 8th-ish?? You're dreaming. If VT loses to Clemson they will drop like a rock. I would even guess they would drop below Michigan.
  12. Fiesta is not picking VT over Michigan, that just wouldn't be logical Michigan is going to Sugar. I can see Peach picking UVA though if VT chokes
  13. VT winning could push Clemson out of the Peach though. Per the AJC, they don't want to pick a team that lost 4 of the last 5, especially if they pick Auburn which it looks like they are leaning that way. It will be FSU vs Auburn or Clemson vs Florida, I think FSU is a more likely pick if VT wins.
  14. I don't think Hosley should have made either team. He got beat alot. Fuller should have been first team. D. Hopkins should have been on at least 2nd.
  15. I agree with that I don't think it will be as easy as a lot of people think where you can just plug and chug Foster for Beamer. Bud Foster has but up some GREAT defenses over the years with 2* and 3* talent, but keeps getting passed over for a HC job. You have to question why and ask yourself what is wrong with him that nobody will take a risk. Muschamp had average defenses at Texas with 4* and 5* star talent but he gets the Florida job. There is a reason Bud isn't a HC somewhere, I may be coming off as a little pessimistic for the post-Beamer era, but only time well tell.
  16. It will be interesting to see the paths the two programs take once Beamer finally retires. If London is still the coach at UVA (which I think he will be esp. since he turned down Penn State), UVA could easily pass VT as the better program in the state.
  17. No way that is true, even if you are just counting alumni and not "fans", they don't come close to other schools. I have been to a lot of games at other schools and traveled around the ACC a good bit, so this is my best guess on which schools have "fans" that travel. Basing this off of 23 years of going to VT games and 5 years of games at GT, so this should eliminate some of the proximity bias. 1) FSU 2) Clemson (could easily put them #1) 3) VT 4) NC State (surprisingly they travel well for not being that good) 5) Miami (lot of sidewalk fans) 6) UNC 7) GT 8) UVA 9) Maryland 10-12) Wake, Duke, BC in no particular order
  18. Bowls aren't really what you deserve, but how well do your fans travel. Thus the only ACC teams that get what they deserve are FSU, Clemson, and VT, and probably in that order. The systems sucks, but it rewards good fans who travel.
  19. Thoughts: Going to be a long day. Hoping to leave Atlanta after my 8am class which should put me in Blacksburg by 5pm. Then will have to drive back to either Tazewell or Charlotte afterwards. Going to be tired at the end of the day. Predictions: This will be closer than I would hope. UNC has had extra time to prepare and they are probably due for an upset. VT squeaks it out. Concerns: Team is tired after the long trip and still a little beat up, while UNC is well rested. Tailgating: PK's before the game.
  20. All you need to know about GT going forward http://blogs.ajc.com/mark-bradley-blog/2011/11/11/we-say-again-georgia-tech-needs-more-and-better-players/
  21. Great game. VT defense played great. Collins and Wilson made some great tackles, especially when GT was running away from Hopkins and Gale all night. Looking forward to going to Charlotte and redeeming the Clemson lose. Let's hope they don't blow it next week, especially because I'm making the trip up for the game.
  22. If you were dumb enough to think CPJ was a bad hire, you would have never been a GT fan in the first place . . .
  23. Agree with this too, GT has always done very well against small lines. I was pretty confused when Foster made all the changes. GT always struggles against big, physical lines (LSU, Iowa, Miami) GT seems to have Clemson and UGA figured out though, just can't make a defensive stop to beat UGA
