  1. Honestly, I think Shorter's loss could kill the Beavers. They literally have 1 player in Edwards that's going to give them a lift off the bench down low now. They were only 8 deep but Shorter's loss now makes them 7 deep. One reserve guard and one reserve post player. They desperately need more bodies down low now. Lack of depth could definitely hurt them come tournament time. If fouls mount up, then they have nowhere to go. Bluefield has arguably the most talented 6-7 man rotation in the state, but that is where it begins and ends. Playing smart and staying out of foul trouble is going to be their biggest concern from now until the end of the season.
  2. Awesome story, BHS03! I think I can stomach one Mountaineer now, LOL. :D
  3. I agree with UVAO. He didn't single out Ahmad, he singled out the scenario. If Brandon Jacobs, Eli, or Walter Payton scored that TD and Tom Brady somehow came back to score the game winning TD because of the extra time on the clock then they would be highly scrutinized no matter who it was. The only place they could escape the blame is probably their immediate family (or a hometown message board). You're right in that "you never know how things will go" because IF Tom Brady would've had a little help from his receivers on the last drive and had they not dropped the ball on a couple plays during the final drive, Brady could've just as easily won the game. Yeah, it's a "what if..." scenario, but it still happened. "What if" the Giants ran the clock down and missed a FG? They all hold the same weight. You either trust your defense or you trust your kicker. Neither choice is better than the other... especially in the Super Bowl against one of the best QBs to ever play the game.
  4. SWVA doesn't routinely churn out that type of talent. That's why. I'm sure if/when SWVA ever starts producing the athletes that NOVA does then Ahmad might become a thing of the past and the area will follow a "better" star.
  5. Sure, you can disagree. But I think it's important because a.) I know him personally b.) he is just as proud of his hometown as we are and c.) he is a good role model for the area. I know you've spelled out Bradshaw's troubles in the thread, and no one is denying them. Being a role model doesn't always entail mimicking yourself after one's EVERY detail in life. His story of coming from a small town, working hard, and making it on the biggest stage in professional sports is what is important. You don't have to follow Ahmad's behavior to look up to him as a role model. His talent, hard work, determination, and successes tell a story to the kids that anything is possible. I know I'll definitely use Ahmad as an example to my kid(s) in the future to teach them that anything is possible. Sure, there may be "better" athletes to look up to in regards to "behavior," like Tim Tebow or someone, but Tebow doesn't draw the intimacy of the area like Ahmad does. I think that holds a ton of weight in a small town.
  6. Albin didn't. I don't think Gilliard was ever picked up either.
  7. My thoughts: 1.) It sucked. 2.) The light show was kind of cool (made me want to trip acid or eat shrooms). 3.) Even at age 50, Madonna would still get the biz.
  8. I was going to say the same thing a while ago, but I didn't want to jinx it, haha.
  9. Good post, deuces. It goes both ways, Vurble. Different people care about different things. Frankly, no one gives a shit that you broke and/or got a new recliner (except UVAO, who may or may not have just been saying that to appease you), but we didn't say anything to you about it.
  10. legend11, not sure if you have seen it yet or not, but you might want to grab a copy of the NY Times today. The pic below is the headline sports picture. Pretty cool keepsake.
  11. Well get of this board and get your ass out there to party too! :D
  12. Not that I'm aware of. He may or may not have lived on the WV side for a little while, but I do know his dad, uncles, etc. were all Graham boys.
  13. LOL, those were the two up for debate. It was a nice little argument as to how good Holmes was.
  14. Mine too! It would definitely be worth the trip out to AZ for the reasons alone that you named. Top 3 on my golf bucket list is as follows: 1.) The Masters 2a.) Pebble Beach 2b.) Sawgrass and 3.) To play Bethpage Black. These WILL all be completed before the day I die. I don't care how much $$ it costs, it's happening.
  15. What an awesome addition to Herd Nation! This kid will be successful and will make not only his dad proud, but all of SWVA. Hopefully he'll grab #44 in Huntington and add to the legacy that the other guy from this area made famous.
  16. After digging and digging, I think I found his Rivals profile... http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Korren-Kirven-104470
  17. That video shows both of the Matthews brothers as QB. H.T. was #3 and Kevin was #6.
  18. Quincy Wilson, former WVU running back played Bluefield at Mitchell in the late 1990s I believe. He didn't have an established NFL career but a quick glance at his Wikipedia page shows that he played in lots of preseason games probably ~50 career carries in the regular season with the Falcons/Bengals.
  19. No I didn't read his post actually, but I will. I seriously doubt he used that type of language towards you and made personal attacks. Lance can disagree with someone without looking like a moron. If he did use that type of language, I'll apologize to you and re-post your initial post. Free of charge. I'd say that your days/hours/minutes are limited here. I just looked at the weather forecast and it's partly cloudy with a 99% chance of the BANHAMMER. Enjoy!
