  1. The last time Mavahi hosted a regional game I believe was when Marion came to the Doghouse. Wasn't but about half full that night so I hope the locals will come and support the Dogs against a good Richlands squad. Just not the same atmosphere without the people packed in there, the exits being blocked and the delays of the game to keep the crowd off the floor.Hope the Dogs are up to the task tommorrow night. Also good luck to the Warriors against Lee and to the Bengals have a safe trip to Grundy, and good luck also.
  2. Thanks Eddie, you helped make up my mind on which game to go to. Haven't seen anyone come into the "House" and whip Mavahi's butt(like you said Richlands would do)in a very long time. Should be fun watching the Tornado roll thru Mavahi. Mhsalum save me a seat,as this one should be interesting.(LOL) Hope the Dogs are ready(get Monkman and the dude in the cowboy hat to sit behind the bench, that would be enough to drive anyone crazy!)Well got to go back and watch some more porn here in my trailer Eddie, hope to see you Tuesday at the game.Peace out!
  3. While sitting in the snow in Bristol watching a baseball game(until they called it in the 5th inning because the field was completely covered in the white stuff) I questioned my sanity for not being at Bassett for the Mavahi-MV game. Then after watching E&H lose a heartbreaker to Guilford 108-107(great game by the way)I was able to get phone updates on the way back.Sounded like the other 3 games, a close game with a "no blood-no foul" mentality by the refs. Can't wait for Tues. but I've got to decide on where I'm going,to Cleveland Ave to see the Dogs vs. Richlands(the "peace in the family"option) or Ridgeway to catch MV vs.Lee. To bad they can't play double header somewhere so you could catch both games.
  4. G-Man sorry about the confusion,I was told wrong, the boys Piedmont tourney is on Tuesday-Thursday-Sat.;the girls are on Mon.-Wed. Sorry about the misinformation!
  5. G-Man, heard last night at the Piedmont playoff game that after the coin tosses for seeding the Piedmont tourney shapes out like this: Tunstall vs Dan River Bassett vs Patrick Co on Monday on Wed Magna Vista vs Tun-DR winner Mavahi vs Bass-PC winner On Sat Consolation(determine district's 3rd regional seed) Championship
  6. On the other side of the coin is Deshawn Strickland, also a very good kid. I have had the oppurtunity to have this young man in my home on many occasions and he is a very respectful, yes sir-no sir kind of person. To me this was very out of character for both of these young men,and one instance I hope that people will let them soon forget about. Hope the Dogs and Warriors can move on from this and make some noise in the regionals(if the Warriors can get there!!).As Coach Wells said so well this morning in the paper,in the heat of the game sometimes "boys will be boys". Things happen sometimes, learn from it and move on. Good luck to both teams next week in the always unpredictable Piedmont Tourney!!!
  7. Was at a bball game and a hockey game broke out.J. Williams and T. Hairston were battling for a loose ball and things got a little rough(as they do on loose ball situations sometimes). Push became shove then the 3rd man in(to use a hockey term)Strickland came in throwing punches and T. Hairston retaliated and all heck started to happen.Police and administrators and coaches got things under control rather quickly with only Strickland and T. Hairston(who was also bleeding from the nose or mouth after the altercation)the only ones ejected.Hate to see stuff like this happen but even being a MV fan I would say Deshawn's ejection was the right thing to do.After the 3 battles these teams have had, something like this was bound to happen. These have been 3 of the most physical games I can recall over my years of watching Piedmont Bball(and that has been about 40 years)!!
  8. Congrats to the Dogs on a hard fought win. When MV was up 48-44 with less than a minute with the ball I liked their chances but you just can't ever count out the Dogs. Will Strickland and Hairston have to sit out 2 games for the incident in the 3rd quarter? That's what we were told after the game.Thank goodness the AD's and the Sheriff's Dept. got things under control fast and cooler heads prevailed or things could have gotten very ugly fast!! Shame that they weren't allowed to shake hands after the game but you get the feeling that these 2 teams have a general dislike for one another. Also what I stated about the refs after the first game these 2 played this year came true tonite. First half there were about 20 fouls called,in the 2nd half with about a minute to go in the game MV 1 foul Mavahi 2 fouls. Same teams, same intensity, not the same whistles. I think that had alot to do with the near riot on the court in the 3rd, they had allowed it to get way to physical. Oh well, it should be an interesting tourney.
  9. The Warriors also won last night 77-40 over Dan River. Was 69-25 at the 6 minute mark of the of the fourth quarter then the subs finished it out. Should be a packed house Tuesday and should be another physical affair(get there early as you will have to go thru the metal detectors to get in). How is Reid and will he be available Tuesday night??
  10. Root for Mavahi.....well maybe in time but the navy and silver runs awful deep. I've already moved to town and that was hard to do.But as far as the game I just hate it when a forearm shiver gets a no call out front but then just a touch gets you a foul underneath the basket. The game has gotten(at least in the Piedmont)way more physical the last 4-5 years but I think the refs are to inconsistant. Set the tone early then stay the same all game. Went to one game this year and you had to draw blood in the 1st half to get a foul called(7 total fouls in the half) then the 2nd half was nothing but a foul shooting contest(26 total fouls). Just be the same start to finish I say.
  11. With the way both of these teams get after you on "D", I think it tends to be a hard game to officiate. If you don't blow the whistle enough it gets out of hand, and if you blow it too much it also takes away from the style both teams like to play. Hard to find that happy medium. Also, alot of these guys just have a hard time keeping up with the pace of the game it seems to me. Should be a good one in Ridgeway on the 5th. Won't be able to make that one, so I hope my Warriors can earn a split that night(I'm getting married to an"old Dog" on the 3rd and she won't let me stay and watch the game...something about a honeymoon LOL!!!)
  12. Hard fought game at the Dog House tonite. One point game with a minute to play but Mavahi made some crucial freethrows and MV missed a pair that would have gave them the lead. Props to the Dogs on making the plays when they needed to. Return engagement on Feb 5 at Magna Vista which I'm sure will be the first full house at Ridgeway this year.
  13. MV and Mavahi are 5-1 in the district, Patrick Co. is in 3rd at 3-3,Bassett is tied for 5th with Tunstall at 2-4 and Dan River is 1-5. Big game at the Dog House on Friday between the Warriors and the Dogs. If both bring their "A" games it should be a classic!
  14. 14-0 with 10:11 left in the 1st,never seen anybody get behind that fast before. Had their chances but Bassett always came up with a play when they had to. Congrats to the Bengals and good luck against Amherst next week. Should be a very tough game but I'm sure Gilbert and the staff will have them ready to do the best that they can. Also congrats to Coach Edwards on a fine stint as the head man at Mavahi. Not many guys last 25 years in the coaching business as a head coach at the same school anymore, and Taylor you did yourself and the Bulldogs proud. Good luck in your future endeavors and you will be missed here on the Piedmont District's sidelines!!
  15. Don't be so touchy ProudBengal, just a little joking between me and mhsalum. I'm not a BHS or Mavahi fan, just a pdfan, but I wish both of you alot of luck this weekend. And to whoever wins good luck against either Salem or Amherst the following weekend,I've seen them both in person and the Reg.4 winner will have their hands full. But that's why they play the games, you just don't know what will happen!!
  16. The county adopted new eligibility requirements this year based on grading periods. If you heard this there may be some truth to it but don't hold your breath on him not playing,he will probably do some phantom make-up work and suddenly be able to play!!
  17. Didn't see the Bulletin, read in the Roanoke paper that it was Friday(where they also said that the Dogs were playing MV next). I know that you are a big Chants fan but do they have anything at all for Appy State?? It's going to be a tough game for the boys from the beach IMO!!
  18. Is the game Sat. or Friday. Heard at the game they were playing Sat. at 1 but the paper said today Friday. Should be a good one but if it's played Sat. I don't think the crowd will be as big as it could be. Hope security is better than the last game too! Oh by the way it's Bassett, not Basset.
  19. He has an excellent staff who seems to work very well together.Hopefully, whoever that gets the job will be able to keep the majority of the staff on board. It would make the transistion for the new coach much smoother!!
  20. You were asking for opinions and I for 1 just don't think they would hire from within. Not that the ones you named wouldn't be good or qualified for the job,but how much head football coaching experience do any of them have? Hard to gauge what they would do though since the Dogs haven't replaced a coach since Mr. Hensley left some 25 years ago. Since you seem to be familar with the situation at Mavahi who do you think should get the job and why? Like I said this is all just speculation, and from what I hear about the man in charge of the city schools the new coach will probably come from outside the area(again just speculation!).
  21. Don't know if there are any "frontrunners" yet for the job. I would doubt that they would hire from within the current coaching staff(just my opinion), but they will probably get some attractive applicants. Coach B would be a good choice but this will probably not happen because of his recent history with the Henry Co. school system.
  22. This game had a little of everything. Mavahi had 2 chances to take control of the game or win it with 1st downs on the 1 yard line. At the end of the first half with 30 seconds to go and no timeouts they ran the ball twice and Bassett stuffed both plays and the clock ran out, then again with 32 seconds left in the game they had it 1st and goal at the one Victor Hairston had the ball stripped as he was going into the end zone. Along with the bank off lights going out in the 3rd quarter and the trouble in front of the concession stand in the 2nd half it was a wild night at Martinsville on Friday. Good luck to the Dogs against Carroll next week and I look for the Bassett-MV game to play out alot differently next week if the Bengals play like they did tonite.
  23. Hardly untested. They had to score with less than a 1:30 to go in the game to beat Martinsville 21-20. A win no less but it could have very easily been a loss. Having seen this game and the Magna Vista-Wm. Campbell game I'm surprised at the margin of victory but not the fact that the Generals won. They are very talented and their only 2 losses have been to 2 Div 4 teams ,Magna Vista(24-19 on the last play of the game) and Eden-Morehead(21-20).
  24. Fleming beat MV 13-7 in the Warriors first game this year. They are not the same Colonels team of the past 4-5 years but are similar to Bassett in that they are very young. Bassett may win being as the game is at Bassett(which I hope they do), but turnovers or not Fleming will give them a good game.
  25. Bassett has a very young team and should be real good next year. MV started out strong and the Bengals never recovered. MV had 2 or 3 other drives stopped in side Bassett's 20 yard line, twice on the 2(once on a fumble, another on downs) so it could have been worse. Bassett has little time to regroup with William Fleming and Mavahi the next 2 weeks but I'm sure Coach Gilbert will have them ready to play. As for playing the Dogs again, I hope we play ya'll at Dan Greene, we seem to be alot better on the road this year(4-0) vs. at home(1-3), so maybe we could keep it just a little closer if the game was at Martinsville.(Maybe only get beat 24-6,LOL)!!
