  1. [ QUOTE ] Here are a few reasons to watch women's golf... [/ QUOTE ] Are you sure the golf aspect is the overriding factor?????
  2. Agreed....but Immelman's lead helped him survive the "kerplunk/splash" drive....which, I don't think anyone can comprehend how that even happened. The announcers first thought he was in the sandtrap....but, I knew it was water....oh my. Yes, if Tiger could have made some putts, but also, others just needed to do the same.... but in the end it was only "if they could have" and the "rookie" came away with the jacket.
  3. [ QUOTE ] Yes, it's true. A regular poster and I have links to Ben Crenshaw and his family down the line. [/ QUOTE ] So, I'm guessing the golfing "gene" runs in the family. The Masters wasn't suspenseful but it was refreshing to see a "first timer" come away with the green jacket. Tiger made a run....but Immelman's lead was to much in the end to overcome.
  4. Wow, that era of BHS, the Beavers, was what many ppl today would call a dynasty. What a storied history. Thank you for sharing it with us.
  5. Weaver didn't qualify, but the other VT guy, Johnson Wagner is still alive. "Lefty" is lurking....Cink, (lives down the road here in Gwinnett, Sugarloaf, where they play the AT&T (Bell South Classic) is in the hunt. Tiger is back in the mix....he is capable...... but, can he do it? One interesting note, Ben Crenshaw, didn't make the cut....but, I was thinking he had a Tazewell County connection....Googled it...and his mother was born in Tazewell County, nee Johnson. I'm hoping Cink can keep it up....but, Phil, seems as if he's on a mission. The weather today and tomorrow could, however, decide the winner.
  6. That's what I would call "SELF-disciplined."
  7. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] If I had to predict who else has a great shot at chasing down Tiger I would choose Adam Scott. Ranked 8th in the world, Scott's swing is almost identical to Tiger's because he is a student of Tiger's ex-teacher Butch Harmon. Tiger Woods is by far my favorite golfer, but I have liked Adam Scott ever since he hit the scene in around 2001. [/ QUOTE ] John Daley also was under the tutelage of Butch Harmon.... Harmon fired Daley.....what an enormous talent that has been sidelined by his "off course" life. [/ QUOTE ] C'mon trublue, I believe we can all agree that John Daly would be the exception... Haha. [/ QUOTE ] Just making a statement about Harmon....nothing else. Harmon, I think, truly wanted to help him....but help has to be "received."
  8. You are correct. A play-on of words...."fired" should have been in quotes....I, also, misspelled Daly.
  9. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] K-12 public school in Grayson County. [/ QUOTE ] O.K. I have to ask...if there TRULY are only 28 students...why are they still open? Is Grayson County a more industrial/prosperous area than Tazewell County? [/ QUOTE ] Yes, there are only that many students. Mount Rogers is located in a VERY REMOTE section of Grayson Co...not really feasible to close the school and send them to Grayson Co. HS. Its only 34 miles from Whitetop, where Mount Rogers HS is located, to Independence, where Grayson Co. HS is located, but it takes nearly an hour by car over a VERY curvy, mountainous road which is EXTREMELY hazardous in the winter. I couldn't imagine a bus driving that road two times per day. If Grayson Co. decided to close Mount Rogers, I'd almost bet that community would attempt to start their own "community" school. [/ QUOTE ] Thanks for the info.

  12. Whatever the outcome....one thing is for sure, he'll be a "SELF-made millionaire"....corny, I know....couldn't resist.
  13. So, that makes it right....so, why have any sports???? Just get on the debate team and trash/disrespect/slam everybody. Sure, would be alot less injuries...talk about school boards being able to save money....
  14. Your monicker certainly doesn't fit your vocabulary. The "thug, gang" language...is that just to get attention or reaction? "Sonny" there's better ways to make your point...whatever it is/was.
  15. [ QUOTE ] If Okie St. throws that kind of money out there, he SHOULD go...but they won't. I believe they will offer, but I believe Self will get a better counter offer from Kansas, and he will remain with the Jayhawks. The two schools are light years apart when it comes to tradition and recognition nationally. Unless OS does what you say and offers him some ridiculous amount, Self will stay in Kansas. [/ QUOTE ] OK ST. has the resources to offer a "ridiculous amount" of money to lure Self to their campus. T. Boone Pickens, one of the richest men in the U.S., in 2005 gave......165 MILLION dollars and it all was awarded towards athletics at his alma mater, OSU. That will buy him some good seats at any of their football games....oh yeah, the new stadium is named....you guessed it....Boone Pickens Stadium. Money will not be an issue for OSU if Self is their man...now, whether he will accept the offer if extended is another story.
  16. It's Memphis....no "emphs", ands, or buts.
  17. When I lived in Tazewell County, you always heard about the Shott family and their philanthropic ways. The Bluefield area has lost a "first class lady" that was very generous to her beloved hometown.
  18. Oops, I was on the phone and starting a new thread on Vick at the same time as yours...posted mine few minutes after yours...sorry about that, deleted now. I was saying on the post I deleted, not to get anyone in an UPROAR....but, I think many ATL fans would like to see Vick return to the Falcons. Now mind you I didn't say ALL fans, but, I believe Blank sees Vick as a "wayward son in a sense" and will play a role in helping him when he gets out...ala w/the Falcons or with another team.
  19. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] ...if you ever want to fall asleep on a Sunday afternoon just lay on your couch and turn on a NASCAR race... [/ QUOTE ] The only thing worse is Women's basketball. [/ QUOTE ] You obviously didn't watch the Tennessee/LSU game last night...one of the most exciting games I've ever watched. [/ QUOTE ] Actually I was watching it as I typed that message. zzzzzzzzz [/ QUOTE ] What a way to top off the day. Went to the Braves/Mutts game yesterday. Smoltz did his thing....Santana was not "untouchable" but he is good. Didn't see Santana get his hit off Smoltz...some guy few rows in front was proposing to his girl....and everybody was oohing and aahing. Leave that for between innings....don't disrupt my view. It was "sweet" though....aaaaahhhhhh. Came home...got to see Stanford beat UConn. Maya Moore, the freshman phenom for UConn is from Gwinnett. Summitt and Geno were both aggressively pursing her....got a little dicey during that recruitment period. TN decided they would not play UConn in the regular season anymore. Then topped it off with the Lady VOLS/LSU game....great game as Gman said. Alum.....how can you not like Parker playing w/a dislocated shoulder...and going against a 6 ft.6" female? Talk about drama...and though it wasn't pretty at times...the game was not decided until there was .07 sec. on the clock. TN wins, TN wins, TN wins. I, also, happen to like the first sub off the bench for TN....she has a great last name. Sorry, nothing to say about Dale Jr...you may now return to the theme of the thread.
  20. The Braves theme song this year: Load up the Bases by Whiskey Falls They performed this on opening day http://www.wsbtv.com/video/15787082/index.html
  21. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Still raining here pretty heavily...not sure about the game today, if, it will take place or when. We've decided to postpone and go to the game tomorrow ....suppose to be much better weather...in the 70's. I do know Bobby has named Glavine as the starter tomorrow instead of Smoltzie against Santana. I'm hoping with that move....it doesn't mean Smoltz has lingering problems. [/ QUOTE ] The rain held off and they got the game in. Another great outing by Hudson as the Braves laid it to the Mets 11-5. The turning point of the game was definetly Kelly Johnsons pintch-hit Grand Slam. They also said during the game that Smoltz was still scheduled to go tomorrow. [/ QUOTE ] I was jumping off the sofa when Kelly launched it. The AJC had that Glavine was going to start tomorrow but you heard Smoltzie on TV saying he asked Glav about switching around. Glad about that since we postponed going to the game until tomorrow.....it'll be Smoltz and Santana....I'm excited to see the match up. Of course, I'm hoping the Braves are blowing them away b/c it's hard if Wagner comes into a game against the Braves....I want to root for a fellow Tazewell Co. guy.....so, I'm hoping it doesn't come to that. GO BRAVOS

  23. [ QUOTE ] Well I have heard that Richlands will not bet getting the field turf, Emats can not get the loan to get the rest of the money to pay for it. [/ QUOTE ] Is this from a solid source.....or he said/she said/his cousin said source? Everything I've heard is it's still happening.
  24. [ QUOTE ] First off, way to post a Dave O'Brian article. That guy is phenomenal and everybody should visit ajc.com just to see what he has to say. [/ QUOTE ] You're right on about O'Brien. He's awesome....funny guy too. Chipper (Hoss) was actually on ajc.com earlier this year blogging with Dave (said he didn't like the name Hoss). Chipper likes to get on and see what ppl are writing/saying about the team. He has opened his own baseball academy here in Gwinnett to help kids at all levels. Ppl do need to get own and read O'Brien's blog....also, while they're on check out the Braves vent section. It can get pretty hilarious w/Mets fans posting on there as if they're Braves fans....most very obvious to spot. Will be going to the game tomorrow....
