  1. Three things....1)I won't be back 2)I resigned b/c of the crappy support I was getting from administration and Mr. Hess. As for the team, they will return everyone from last years team and be competitive again. Artrip and Roman alone make them competitive. 3)no way Hess should get job
  2. Did Council get new boys and girls varsity head coaches??? If so, who???
  3. Brett Compton wasn't either...his early years come during Jason Compton (honaker) and the Ratliff (council) later years. He was actually Co-player of the year in his senior campaign with PJ Bailey.
  4. Not sure about the Colley's but I'm positive that Ryan wasn't POY as a sophomore, nor as a junior. He may have been as a senior. I don't think Brad was as a sophomore either but I could be wrong on that one.
  5. Honaker's girls, division II, will play Floyd County this Saturday night at 6pm at Christiansburg High.
  6. The reason they play the tournaments is for points toward seeding. It justifies ranking a Rye Cove for instance higher than a Hurley. Or a TV higher than a JI Burton. I understand why they do it but it makes no sense to let teams in that are that bad. I read in the BHC today that Holston's girls qualified for the Region tournament. Taking nothing away from those coaches or kids, but a team that has an 0-20 record doesn not deserve a regional appearance. Same goes for anyone else with that type of record. If you want everyone to make the Regional Tourny, take the 24 teams in DI and DII put them into 4 brackets of 6, rank the teams 1-6, and have a DI and DII winner. Forget the district tournaments and seed based on regular season district record and non-district record. All the tie breakers could still apply. A lot of these teams face the challenge of playing any one particular team 4-5 times. Take the BDD for instance, you play each team twice in reg. season, most likely once in the district tourn. and run the possibility of playing that same opponent in the Regional tourny. Thats 5 times and your not even into the state tourny.
  7. If you want to take them all, then why play a District Tournament?? Shouldn't a 20 game regular season mean something. You don't want our "small schools" to have to play guys like GW...lol. GW has 444 students...JJKelly has more than that. Go to VHSL.org and look at who the "small schools" will have to play if they make it to the state quarterfinals and beyond. Division I in Region A and B have teams with 459--Mathews, 421 Franklin, 624--Nelson County, 618--Manassas Park, 588--Buffalo Gap. In Region B the smallest school is Rappahannock County with 341, that's 60 students larger than our, Region D, largest school in DI (Haysi--280). I'm just not sure how anyone can think this benefits anyone in the long run. Yes, it may help a few of the Div. I teams get past the Regional Tournament, but the bottom line is you still have to be a really good team to go any further. DIVISIONAL SPLITS IS NOT THE ANSWER!!
  8. There was nothing in the Bristol paper about the game (girls or boys). Anyone have any idea who won the girls game or have the score??
  9. Anyone have or able to post the girls A??
  10. Logan Ball ran for well over 100+ against the Lebanon defense. The kid from PV, if of Jones' caliber, should have put up 300+. That didn't happen. Ball, Parks from GC, and Musick from Lebanon are all as good if not better. The kid from PV better lace'em up tight cause Richlands D is not gonna give him much.
  11. Youth tournament is cancelled!! Not enough interest. However, the men's division will begin at 12pm at Honaker Elementary School. You can register at the door. Bring dark and light shirts.
  12. Several teams have entered. E-mail or message if you have questions.
  13. The cost is $50 if you pre-register. If we have several teams pre-register then we put together a schedule. Those who don't pre-register will be placed at the end of the schedule filling in empty spots. Normal 5 on 5 tournaments cost from $100-150. Three player....$50....$16.67 per player. We hope to get several of Grundy's youth teams to participate. There will be trophies, but no cash!!
  14. The original date of April 28th and 29th has been changed. The new date for the 3 on 3 tournament is May 12th and 13th. Thanks
  15. To: Anyone interested in participating!! Our basketball foundation is having a 1st Annual 3 on 3 tournament at Honaker Elementary School on April 28th-29th. We will have a boys and girls division. Each division will be composed of: 4th-5th grade teams, 6th-7th grade teams, 8th-9th grade teams, and 9th-12th grade teams. All players can play up in the other divisions, just not down. We are also having an OPEN division for adults. The high school kids will also be allowed to play in this division as well. We are looking to have boys on one day and girls the other (Saturday or Sunday). I'm sure we are going to miss some kids because of baseball and softball, but depending on who I get the bigger response from, boys or girls, I will do the group that needs to avoid conflicts with those sports on Sunday. Please pass the message on. Encourage all the youth in your program to attend. We plan to field a couple of high school teams, so encourage your guys/gals to come if they can. It doesn't matter that they are seniors this year, bring them. Our little league softball has taken that weekend off, so they should bring several teams. Entry fee is $50 for each division. If high school teams want to enter the open division as well it will be an extra $20. If you have anyone interested please let me know and I will send you a detailed e-mail of the rules and regulations. Should be a lot of fun. We are strongly encouraging pre-registration so that we know how many teams to expect as well as concessions. General admisson will be $3.00 for non participants. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged so that we can get a schedule together and concessions. Teams will be allowed to register at the door but the cost will be $65.00.
