  1. If you only have 2-3 people in your group, you can get to the park around 6 or so and still get a good seat. I always just looks for spaces between all the blankets that every puts down because they never place them to where they touch. Thing that gets me is when folks put down blankets just in case so and so show up...or put a blanket down in front of the one they plan to sit on in order to have leg room.
  2. It should be mentioned that if GC beats Central, the Devils will have the same average of wins and losses under him as their 2015 record was. 6-15 the past 2 years averages out to a 3-7 record. So, 1 year of improvement and 1 year of regression...but not much different from 2015 as a whole.
  3. You always should pull for outcomes that benefit the team you pull for...that's common sense.
  4. Steal away! I don’t care about trivial things like that. Mine actually had a quote of stripes.
  5. With Burton already losing to Eastside, I would think the Eastside/Castlewood game would more than likely decide the district. Eastside has won 4 in a row, and has only 1 loss to a 1A opponent (Patrick Henry who currently sits at the top of the power rankings in the region). In this case Burton isn't the barometer.
  6. At this point, I would think Eastside would be considered the favorite to win the Cumberland...they are up and down week to week, though. But, Eastside puts pretty good talent at the skill positions this year.
  7. Who knows...5 wins should get them into the playoffs over there, I would think. It's a shame for the kids that the work they put in has been sabotaged this late in the season. Way I see it, unless it comes out that Sensabaugh did something EXTREMELY wrong, all of the suspensions and firing, etc. could've waited until the season was over. Sounds more like a stubborn administration with big egos to me. When dealing with a situation like this, kids should come before a pissing contest.
  8. Pissed off parents, 3 guys serving as HC in 2 weeks...one let go for "failure to unite the team", all but one coach let go (he must be the "yes" man), the new guy is a baseball coach, an entirely new staff except for 1 guy with only 2 weeks left in the season before any playoff games they might earn...yeah, it can get a lot worse. Haha They are sitting on a powder keg over there.
  9. Only getting worse, it seems. http://www.johnsoncitypress.com/Football/2017/10/16/Lingerfelt-hopes-to-bring-calm-to-Crockett-storm.html?ci=stream&lp=1&p=1
  10. Most any team would struggle in that situation...I don't care who it is. That's why when folks go on about "What if you took Mitchell away from Union", 2 things cross my mind. First is "Well what if you took away any team's best player" and second is "They are already without their QB." Who knows whether or not they are the best team in the region...but, they are one of the most resilient. Since week 2, every team they have played came in knowing Union to run on offense, and they have to the tune of an average of around 325 yards per game.
  11. There really isn't a straight route to get there. Regardless of which road you take, there's going to be quite a few curves and at least one mountain. Any way they go will be a rough trip by bus.
  12. With their front 7 on defense, Union would be in pretty much every game regardless of who does or doesn't play on offense. How many other teams in the region do you think could lose their starting QB in week 2 and still be undefeated with 2 games to go? It's true it would be tough with Mitchell out of the equation, but name me a high school team who wouldn't struggle without their starting QB and their best player, too.
  13. I guess distance-wise it's not that bad, but that's still a pretty good ride on some rather curvy roads. Riding that on a bus stands a good chance of leaving a few players green by the time they get there.
  14. Seems like it would be quicker to Ridgeview from Abingdon coming from the Haysi end rather than the Clintwood end...but I’m not sure. Either way, that’s a pretty good ride.
  15. It happened close to where I was setting...once it was noticed he was having trouble, several folks sprang into action. It went from calm to folks working as hard as they could on him in a second. Hope the guy gets well.
  16. When they took him to the ambulance he seemed to be alert. A couple of ladies did have to do cpr to get him to that point. Did he for sure pass away? If so, that’s awful.
  17. It’s not sad that Rye Cove has the county’s best record. It’s sad that the best record in the county is the only one with a win. I believe that Cove finishes with either a 2-8 or 3-7 record. Regardless, it will be the best record in the county.
  18. Maybe so, but all of that didn’t help matters any and it immediately preceded him leaving
  19. If coaches in SWVA plan to live off of a coaching supplement, they’ll starve. Haha.
  20. I’ve seen quite a few very good teams with less than 10 seniors. Problem I’ve noticed over the years are teams heavily laden with seniors. They tend to become complacent while younger teams usually stay hungry. Many coaches use years when they don’t have many seniors or senior contributors to play the youngest players they can to build a core to last a couple years...especially at key positions. Many times the kids they play at key positions aren’t necessarily the best they have, but the ones with the most upside who will be around longest...and they play the kids that lose out on these positions in less vital positions where they can still make an impact. IMO, that’s the best strategy to deal with a team with few seniors because it makes the initial rebuilding take a year, but last 2-3 years. In the 2-3 years you have it rolling, then you groom players to reload once the core players graduate. That means investing time observing the feeder programs, 8th graders, and JV in an effort to envision the best combination of future players...and requires some cooperation from the coaches of those teams to once in a while work with specific players in specific positions in an effort to have them as ready as possible to compete at the position the varsity coach intends to try them at once they hit the varsity level. During all of this, fans have to be patient and let the coach make the moves he feels he needs to make in an effort to rebuild into a strong contending team. A wise old coach once told me, “It’s not how many you lose at the end of the year, it’s who you lose.” I believe in that 110%.
  21. Under Saunders and Salyer both, Kelly had their most respectable years post 1981...both coaches did really well until, like you said, parents and higher ups ran them off. 100% on the money with that post. The situation with B.I. was especially silly...raisin’ hell on a coach for using county gas to transporting workout equipment for the weight room? I mean, seriously...someone in the SBO just had it in for him.
  22. Honestly, I know I’ll be in the minority saying this, but I don’t think the score will be too lopsided. I think if Union starts really putting points on the board, Turner will be classy and call off the dogs early. No sense in losing players over bad blood in a game that is decided.
  23. They are airing all the dirty laundry now, it seems.. http://www.johnsoncitypress.com/Education/2017/10/11/Three-Crockett-employees-on-leave-accusation-keep-coming.html?ci=featured&lp=1&ti=
  24. Well, we agree on one thing at least.
