  1. I don't blame you then. It's best not to post anything like that until it happens and it's official. Anything can happen to change whatever the rumor might be. By the way, I hope that someday we can see Bluefield & Richlands play again. You guys have a great program up there. Two good teams that are not that far from each other makes for a good football game. Although you did beat us the last 2 games we played.....lol
  2. Show me the post where I said he would never touch the field ? I think you need to go back and reread any of the post I wrote. I always said that we have 3 guys that can play QB. If Lockhart can't get the job done then we have someone else that can. I do know what skills and potential he has from watching him start for the last 3 years for the dogs. He has also looked good in 7 on 7's so far. I don't think anybody really knows how good he'll be or "if" he'll be the starter until the season starts. Somebody may have said he wouldn't see the field, but it wasn't me.
  3. Glad to hear that they may have caught the guy. Hate to see anybody get away with anything like that ! Hope Barreras makes a full recovery and is home soon.
  4. You got my interest......LOL ! How about breaking it to the board ?
  5. From what I'm hearing Lance it was probably a heart attack but I'm not 100% sure. I believe he was 55. I also believe that they have a brother that is married that lives in Richlands along with some other siblings but I know nothing about who will take care of them or if they will now go back to War or stay here. That's a big loss for them so I just wish them the best. Here is a link to his obituary in the Bluefield paper. http://bdtonline.com/obituaries/x536260701/Albert-Lamar-Johnson
  6. Lockhart will make a difference. he has a very good arm and can run also. His experience will help a lot too. but if he is not getting the job done, there are a couple of others that can step in and do the job. As far as the Johnson's go, I didn't think there was much of a chance of them going back to War when all the rumors had come out, but, now that their father has passed away last week unexpected you never know what might happen. From what I am hearing right now, I think there is still a very good chance that they stay in Richlands. But if they do leave, I think the blues will still be pretty darn good. They are much deeper than many think. It would hurt don't get me wrong, but I think the blues would be alright. I want to give my sympathy to their family for their loss and I'll keep them in my thoughts & prayers ! I hope they're able to stay in Richlands as they are an asset to the team & the town.
  7. Yea, here is a link to the thread about it . http://www.swvasports.com/forum/showthread.php?t=18763
  8. It should be the best if at least not one of the best games of the season. Both teams return almost all of the players from last season and both "could" wind up playing for state championships this season, "could" operative word here. It was a very close game last year at Ernie Hicks and will be again this year at Gate City..........it's going to be a lot of fun to watch ! It should let both teams know where they stand. I think the blues can win this game, ( of course I am just a little biased...... ! ) but cannot make any mistakes. I love playing the City because the respect factor is high on both sides and because of the history of both teams. I also think the Graham and Bluefield game will be interesting also. Graham should be as least a little better this year and Bluefield lost a couple of good players from last years team but still has Fred Simon as coach ! With ESPN filming the game, it could add a little extra incentive for both teams. Bluefield will win but it could be a little interesting.........for a while a least.
  9. Sure hate to hear about anything like this. But it seems we hear more & more of these type of stories now days. I hope both young men make a full recovery ! Prayers for them and their families.
  10. No problem man. I really didn't mean anything personal or anything. Just making a statement and I guess it just came out a little more rough than I meant it to be.
  11. Well jeezzz, you said no BS so it seemed more like a statement instead of a joke. I was also just making a statement of what I thought if they did go back to War, even though I don't think they are. Sorry if I didn't get your joke, didn't mean to sound grouchy ......LOL
  12. I don't follow you there, is there a rule that says they can't, I know that they can't go back to Big Creek high school, since they have now combined with Iaeger and become Riverview High School. Is that what you mean ? By the way, I hope you guys have a better year this year. You guys had a great program at one time and I think it can be again. I don't care how down everybody thinks Graham might be, they are always a dangerous team. I like to see strong SWVA teams. It helps all teams in our area with better competition.
  13. I hate to agree with you, but you are right. The tornado band "use" to be one of the best in all of Virginia but has had some hard times the last couple of years. They are still a good band, but not what they once were. But I'll say that they will come back. They have a lot of backing also. I don't know about the falcon band rules though.
  14. Hmmm, they are also playing 7 on 7 for the blues so I don't think that either means much. They will do what ever is best for them. If they decide to go back to BC/ Riverview then great for them, that's their decision. Richlands won before they got here, and we won while they were here and will win when they are gone. The blues are a very deep team and will still be one of the teams to beat for the SWD and in the playoffs. I hope that what we have heard in town is true, but if not then I wish them all the best. Kids come and go, that's high school football. They move or graduate or get hurt. the good programs find a way to adapt and move on as we always have. But I think a lot of this is just talk. They may have played a pick up game in BC, that doesn't mean that they will be playing there this fall...........but I guess we will find out.
  15. If your talking about the Johnsons, which was talked about in some rumors, that has been put to rest. Their dad has said that they are not going anywhere except to Ernie Hicks to play football at Richlands.
  16. To be honest, Hess is a very good QB but, we have at least 3 QB's that could still bring us to state. Either Lockhart or Vance or even Strong with Lockhart and Vance both looking very good in 7 on 7's so far. ( I have not seen Strong myself yet so I can't comment on him ) But you know, I'm not like you are and I don't assume that the blues ( like you do with the Falcons ) will win anything. We have the talent but we have to put it together and win games first. But I do think that our history over the last several years has shown that we can........unlike the Falcons history, oh I'm sorry.......what history ! If Hess does stay at Abingdon you will still be reading about other teams in the playoffs and crowing about how next year will be the year........again ! And nobody in the SWD worries about the birdheads.
  17. I almost fell out of my chair when I read that .....LOL !
  18. You are pretty funny falconman I'll give that to ya....LOL ! Just remember all this smack your talking right now come week 3 ( week 4 for us ). You beat us and I'll be on here to take what you have to dish out. But I think it will be more of your excuses as to why you lost.......again !
  19. Yea, we're really worried about coming to falcon hill this year, especially after the tough game you gave us last year.....LOL ! With the blues having 19 out of 22 starters coming back this year, I can see why your so confident......
  20. Hey Falconman, when was the last time Abingdon won state or even made it to the finals ? When you live in a glass house you don't throw stones. I think most everyone on here has a lot more respect for PV than for the falcons. Maybe also instead of bragging about how your gonna beat the blues this year, your goal should be to try to stay within 25 or 30 points first ! :D
  21. I hate to disagree with my fellow Richlands fan but, I have seen Mance and Palmer get pretty agitated for both practice and the games. ( I played high school ball with Palmer ) That's all a part of football, I will say that Mance keeps his cool with his players better then most that I have seen over the years though. But I have seen them and the other coaches chew some butt.
  22. Doesn't sound good. I hate it for the kids that are going to play this year, especially for the SR's. By the way Bluefield_ Rules, just wanted to say that I have a lot of respect for your program up there. You guys do a heck of a job and have a great staff. Good luck this upcoming season !
  23. Nobody acts like Richlands is a perfect place, far from it. We have a great football program right now and have won a lot over the last several years and nobody likes a team that wins a lot. I understand why a lot of you dislike us, just like people hate the 48 in NASCAR right now or the Yankees or anybody that wins a lot. And yes, I know that Richlands is not the Yankees or anybody else, it's just an example. I also know that like every other team on here we might have a couple of bad fans that show themselves, but, like all of the other towns that are represented here, they do not speak for the majority of good fans that we have. Also, like all the towns in SWVA right now we have our problems, but we love and back our team with a passion and that's one reason that we do win. Our program and coaches have the full support of the fans, it's not perfect, but right now........it's pretty dang good. And if all of us stopped coming to Abingdon and spending our money.............your allowance would go way down !
  24. I wish you guys good luck 52. I hope he does a good job if for no other reason than for the kids. We've had some great games in the past and hope for some more in the future. Now don't get me wrong, I still hope we win the game....LOL I've been through a coaching change when I played and it's a bi_ch having to learn your new coaches and a new system, and it can be really hard on the Jr's & Sr's. I think having a strong Tazewell & Graham along with the other SWD teams is good for all.
  25. My Sr year I was benching 350 and 2 guys I played with in Maryland my FR & Soph years benched 410. They were both Sr's. One went on to play for Penn st and played for 12 years with the Rams in the NFL. I don't think that there are a lot of those kids that bench over 400, but there are some that do.
