  2. Too bad a lot of successfull Middle School teams dont make the Varsity teams successfull. Sometimes it does but not always.
  3. Exactly. This system helps the smaller schools like Holston more than the old one ever did. No more Buffalo Gap or similar size schools in D1 does nothing but help the smaller schools.
  4. Fry built it, Colobro did his best to keep it on track, and Houseright has for the most part is keeping it there too. We need that Harry Fry mentallity this year.
  5. The 1a through 6a in TN is similar to the Divisions in VA. We have 6 also. TN still only goes to AAA in other sports. Their cutoffs are different than VA I think because VA tries to keep Divisions equal in each Region. Single A is the only ones to have a true cutoff and enforce it in VA. Best I can tell in TN all cutoffs are enforced. But the cutoff numbers are different than VAs. In TN Sullivan South is 5a but going by VA's out of state enrollments they are classified as Division 4 here for points use. The tricky one is Bluefield in WV. They are classified as Division 3 in VA but if they where a VA school they would be Division 2. I think TN High is 5a in TN and classified as D5 in VA. But depending where in VA they would be located they could be a D4 school here. I know I am not 100% right on this but am close. What it all comes down to is the 6a system in TN is similar to the 6 Divisions in VA.
  6. Alcoa was upset this past week by Austin East 24-7. I just dont know how that happened. http://www.coacht.com/tennessee/inside/schedule.cfm?schoolid=13&seasonid=149&sportid=1&
  7. I miss the GC vs. Graham days. Always seemed to be for the Region Championship. Also Gate City vs. Appy, GC vs. Powell Valley but something tells me the GC vs. Union games will be some good ones to come. Gc vs. VHS used to be very good. Also up untill 1970 the Gate City vs. Dobynns Bennett games were pretty good. GC vs. Sullivan North was very good 80s and 90s. Have often heard about GC vs Ketron I think is the name. Like with North they would go so far as to set each others fields on fire. GC vs. Tazewell was pretty good in the 90s. I know there are others but drawing a blank.
  8. GC scrimmaged Science Hill for years. I think every year in the 80s and some in the 90s.
  9. Union @ VHS should be a dandy! Also I think it is the first time in history that VHS has played PV or Appy. I know the first time in history for them to play Union as everyone on Union's schedule is playing them for the first time. I cant remember them playing any Wise County teams before.
  10. Two I would like to see Gate City play are Rye Cove and Twin Springs only because all are Scott County schools and have NEVER played before. Other than that I would love to see GC play Wythe also. Others I would like to see GC play are.... Sullivan North (TN) TN High (TN) DB (TN) Greenville (TN) Hazzard (KY) Letcher Central (KY) Graham Middlesboro (KY) Bell County (KY) Alcoa (TN) Science Hill (TN) Giles Radford Gretna Floyd County Morristown East and West (TN) Heck even throw Maryville (TN) in there. As for Richlands I want to see them back on Bluefield's schedule. I know Richlands is chicken to but it makes too much sense.
  11. They are probably the best 9 out of 10 years. Very good program.
  12. I have seen one quick kick on 3rd down in HS ball. Appy did it against GC in 02 or 03. Cant remember the exact year.
  13. In fact in 94 we were 5-1 before dropping 3 in a row to Richlands, Appy, and PV late in the season.
  14. 1994 started 0-1. Lost to Lebanon the first game then beat VHS the 2nd game. http://web.scott.k12.va.us/gchs/gchsfootball/yearpages/1994.htm
  15. GC coaching is not the whole problem. The coaches did not cause one player to fumble 5 times last night. The coaches are not making all the on field mistakes and turnovers though they are making some off the field. I agree somewhat on the coaching but not due to the play calling. The coaching problem I am talking about lies in the practices during the week. They are not getting after those kids like they had the past couple years. Cant say anything about play calling after watching our QB run for his life on multiple pass plays while the lineman are watching with their thumbs up their arses. We have a good team but need a fire lit under our behinds. South is very down and had we had any fire at all we win that game by 2 to 3 tds. We have no one stepping up as a team leader either. There is no fire and intensity this year. We look like the 08 team that lost all the fire after playing Clintwood except that year we came out strong and finished weak. This year we are starting weak. Have lost two winnable games this year due to mistakes and very little effort. Last nights game was the most winnable game we played. Even the student section fans have not been as fired up as they have been in the past. Everyone seems to be moping around. I guess what I am saying is we are all to blaim for the non existant fire. I mean everyone. Coaches, players, and us fans!

  17. Dont committ the penalties and those TDs will count.
  18. What I like most is the part that District champs no longer get automatic bids. Would have been just as happy with a 16 team statewide playoff instead of the 32 team one but it is what it is. Did not mean it to look like I like the new system because of letting so many teams in. I like it for two reasons. One being what I said about District champs and the other is doing away with Regions. I never did like Regional playoffs. Most times you would see the same team in the Regions that you saw in the regular season. Sometimes that was a good thing but the new setup gives way for teams to play others they have never played before. Makes it more exciting.
  19. I am actually one of the Gate City faithfull instead of Lebanon but paid some attention to the Playoff teams in Region C. I remember the GW team that went 9-1 and thought they could have won it all that year if not for the one district loss. That is why I am so happy with the new playoff setup. No longer will be the days of a team having one bad night knock them out of the playoffs.

    Sept. 2nd

Union will surprise some teams this year but I dont think it will be Richlands.
  21. No. But have been close. Also one of the teams that was in Region C with records of 9-1 and 8-2 sitting home during the playoffs.
  22. Appy has got to be the best overall since 1970 to do so much with the small numbers they had.
