Huge Difference. Battle D2 TS D1. AHS D4 most of their out of district opponents D1 and D2. Battle needs those D1 and D2 teams to build confidence in their team since they are in rebuilding mode. Abingdon has been playing teams D2 and D1 for years and still cant get it together. Since this is Battles second year with their coach and it looks like they are moving in the right direction I see their schedule getting stronger next year. I am also one of the few here that hope the Falcons get better. I know people here talk about how AHS fans think they are the bomb but not all of them think that way. I have a guy here that sends me Abingdon updates every Friday and he does not act that way. He is a very good person. I look at it like this. If AHS gets better SWVA Football as a whole gets better!

If those are not the numbers then where can one find the numbers that are used? I had always thought those were the numbers the VHSL used. If not then why do they post them under Football Divisions on their website?

Correction.... Gate City has 4 State Titles not 3. 1970, 1974, 1997, and 2003.

If I am looking at things right not only will Grundy drop but they will drop all the way to Division 1! The cutoff for next year will be 450 and as of now they are at 438. What should Grundy return for next season?

It was just a few years ago that DB picked up North for two games. S. North has a smaller enrollment than Richlands. I see DB picking up Gate City before they would play Richlands and that will not happen anytime soon. DB is too interested in Knoxville schools right now. Truthfully I would love to see DB pick up one of opur AAA teams. Just think how ugly it would be DB vs. Oscar Smith or DB vs. Phoebus! If Richlands wants their hand at a good TN team try Maryville or Alcoa. I garuntee Alcoa would be game.

All I will say is Gate City is healthy now. They was not in week 1. Last night Gate City's biggest rival only managed 3 first downs and only 20 yards total offense. If GC and Richlands played now the score would be closer but the outcome would not change. I hear GC is looking to replace some on their schedule. Give them a call there Abingdon!

a good old fashioned prank to a teams rival or just plain opponent? This morning Gate City FB players were treated to the site of a red t-shirt draped over their football player statue in front of the high school with "Lebanon Owns Gate City" on the front and "We Are LHS" on the back. That got me to thinking. Why do we see so little of stuff like this now? Just a few years back it was as common as playing on Friday night! Now we hardly hear of this. I can remember opponents sending their rivals funeral type flowers on game day or even back before Scott County hired that nut that locked up all the dumpsters seeing where teams would come in and spray paint their school initials with their colors. Heck Sulivan North and Gate City set each others fields on fire before! People just dont get into football around here like they used to. I know some would take it too far but I miss the good clean pranks like what Lebanon treated us to this morning.

Sounds like the 8th grade coaches need to be the Varsity coaches. Those kids were very fundamental last year. Espeacially being in the 8th grade.

Not going to get into the post he made but I do know Vol61 outside of these forums and can tell you he is a great person to know. We kid each other all the time about our football teams. Also even though he played for DB he sits in the GC stands every Friday night cheering on the Devils. Heck he is louder and more into it than most of the GC fans that went to GC. He also wears blue from head to toe at every game. Just dont tell his DB buddies about that as I had him embarassed to death when I told them.:D:D

You just dont want to be torn between your two loves and dont want your DB team mates seeing you dressed in blue!:D That was not the best GC team ever. It was one of the best but not the best. You know that the real reason DB does not want to schedule GC is how embarassing it would be when they do lose to the Devils. I have heard the same old excuse of how scheduling GC would not help DB and would not benefit them. I just dont buy it. I also know on paper GC would lose to DB 8 out of 10 years but I am not a huge subscriber to the whole enrollment thing either. I think the two would have better games than you think they would but I am looking through blue shaded glasses as you are looking through your Maroon ones. I think it would benefit both teams. Just look at the income that gate would bring in. They dont have to play a regular season game. Play it as a preseason Benefit game. It would help them both by letting GC play against some speed and DB play against a very physical team. It would not hurt either team to play this in the preseason. If not a preseason game it will not hurt to schedule a home and home series either. If DB can schedule Sullivan North for a home and home series then they can schedule GC. It was not 5 or 6 years ago DB did schedule North for a two year contract. Norths enrollment this year is 638 and GCs is 681. GC is and has been a same size school as North so DB cant use the not benefitting us excuse. I know it probably wont happen but it would be nice to give it a try. I dont care if we get beat by 100 just as long as I would get to see them play one time before I die. As for the comment about the score it was not made to really do much boasting. I just read were the other guy mentioned the Harry Fry days and of course that game came to mind. :p
