  1. Grayson County is having a hard time adjusting to playing down in Class 1 basketball. They've gotten smashed the first two games out of the gate. Need to find some more homeschool kids to rebuild, I guess.
  2. I'm not familiar with the political climate in Tazewell County. That could most certainly have an impact. I would still think going through the interview process would be beneficial practice for a young coach looking to get his big break.
  3. Riverheads has mastered finding the opponents weakness and exploiting it. Adjust to what Riverheads is doing, they make a slight adjustment and take right off again. Relying on Riverheads to make mistakes is a fools errand. It's not going to happen. Too well coached and far too disciplined. CCC will be the best player on the field, in my opinion. Yes, that includes Clark. Just look at what CCC did to Kam Robinson from Essex last year. Robinson is now a 1st Team Freshman All-American at UVA.
  4. It's actually pretty common for public-sector interviews to take place even when the hiring party already knows the eventual outcome. Public-sector interviews are a requirement to meet state and federal law. Why interview if you know someone else will ultimately be hired? One never knows what may happen down the road. Make a good impression in the interview and set yourself up for a possible return in a year or two if the situation changes. In the late 90's, I interviewed for a position with a multinational full service engineering firm based in Norfolk. Even though they were a private company, they had to meet state had federal guidelines for public-sector employment based on the military contracts the company held. They knew who they were going to hire well before the interview process began. I went in knowing I wasn't getting the job but decided to put my best foot forward anyway. I was young and could use the interview practice and experience. Four days after the interview, I got a call from their Roanoke branch asking if I would be interested in relocation. I spent the next 8-years there. Dress for the job you want, not the job you have!
  5. They lost a ton to graduation. The supporting cast is nowhere near as talented as last year. Doubtful they repeat to be honest. Ervin will keep them in a lot of games but she will have to score, score, score. Hell, Galax is terrible and beat the Carroll JV's last year twice. Galax has a middle school team destroying people right now. They will compete for state titles in a couple of years. Those girls have been playing high level travel ball together since 2nd grade. Their travel coach is on the Board of Directors at Blue Ridge Country Club with me.

Non-district scheduling is something that generally gets agreed upon a few years in advance. Those Giles, Fort Chiswell and Grundy matchups would have looked very different 4 to 6 years ago when the conversations likely began for these series. But please, keep showing us just how little you actually know about the process. Which is sad for someone that is supposed to be a coach.
  7. Ervin finished with 36 points and 12 rebounds. In 3 games this season, Alyssa has scored 31, 36 and 36. Jessee finished with 27 points
  8. I’m pretty sure George Wythe only graduates 4 or 5. If they can successfully replace Smith at QB, they will be loaded for bear. Galax graduates 4 senior starters. If they can replace Ashworth and Tucker somehow, they should be in the mix again. I think Fort Chiswell is going to take a step forward too. They return a lot of size and talent. With a solid coach now, they will continue to improve. Grayson County will take a step or 3 backward unless they can find another crop of homeschool kids somewhere.
  9. Private school in Martinsville. Usually a pretty powerful program. A total of 8 VISAA State Championships including four straight from 2015-2018.
  10. Carroll beat Carlisle last night 55-45. Alyssa Ervin had 36 points and 12 rebounds.

It is what it is!!! There is probably something shady going on inside every district and region in Virginia where rivalries are concerned. It tends to bring out the worst in people. In my opinion, the district voting could have gone either way had it been done at face value so, a tie was probably the correct outcome. However, the shadiness really starts to have a greater impact when you look at the Region 2D voting. I'm not sure actively voting against the best interest of your own players in an effort to get some level of revenge on a rival player is the most adult, responsible thing to do. Kind-of gives credence to some of the criticisms Palmer has received over the years. But I digress. It's not my argument. Just seems petty and quite childish for a supposed leader of men. Graham has had a great run the past several years. It doesn't appear that will taper-off any time soon. Lots of talent in and around that area. Bluefield will not be down for long either. Plenty of talent to sustain two state level programs.

I'm not trying to be argumentative but I have multiple sources who were in the room when the SWD meeting took place at Fincastle. Literally nothing else played into the voting. It almost came to blows when Palmer was called out for his "politics" in trying to ensure Creasy wasn't voted POY. Maybe it would be beneficial to not belly-up to the bar the night before the biggest game of the season.

That's probably an accurate statement for the SWD. Where one head coach openly campaigns against a player from a rival school. Then votes against his own players best interest in an effort to keep that player from a rival school off the Region 2D podium.

Creasy tied for offensive POY with Edwards. The tiebreaker goes to the one that advances further in the postseason.
  15. Freedom Woodbridge, AKA the DC Transit School. Lots of kids taking public transit out of DC to Woodbridge to play sports. Amtrak station is a little over a mile from the high school with a bus waiting to pick them up. LCA playing Class 3 is as absolutely as ridiculous as John Marshall playing Class 2 basketball.
  16. CLASS 1 CHAMPIONSHIP Galax (VA) vs. Essex (Tappahannock, VA) at Salem City Stadium (Salem, VA), 5:00pm [projection and percent chances to win: Galax (VA) 24 (57%) Essex (Tappahannock, VA) 22 (43%)] CLASS 2 CHAMPIONSHIP Riverheads (Staunton, VA) vs. Radford (VA) at Salem City Stadium (Salem, VA), 11:30am [projection and percent chances to win: Riverheads (Staunton, VA) 28 (53%) Radford (VA) 27 (47%)] CLASS 3 CHAMPIONSHIP Liberty Christian (Lynchburg, VA) vs. Lafayette (Williamsburg, VA) at Liberty U. (Lynchburg, VA), 5:00pm [projection and percent chances to win: Liberty Christian (Lynchburg, VA) 34 (88%) Lafayette (Williamsburg, VA) 14 (12%)] CLASS 4 CHAMPIONSHIP Phoebus (Hampton, VA) vs. Salem (VA) at Liberty U. (Lynchburg, VA), 11:30am [projection and percent chances to win: Phoebus (Hampton, VA) 27 (53%) Salem (VA) 26 (47%)] CLASS 5 CHAMPIONSHIP Maury (Norfolk, VA) vs. Stone Bridge (Ashburn, VA) at U. of Virginia (Charlottesville, VA), 5:00pm [projection and percent chances to win: Maury (Norfolk, VA) 41 (88%) Stone Bridge (Ashburn, VA) 22 (12%)] CLASS 6 CHAMPIONSHIP Freedom (Woodbridge, VA) vs. Highland Springs (VA) at U. of Virginia (Charlottesville, VA), 11:30am [projection and percent chances to win: Freedom (Woodbridge, VA) 40 (86%) Highland Springs (VA) 24 (14%)]
  17. How many times over the past 8 seasons have we said ‘Riverheads run ends here. They can’t match up with…..”? Every single time, Riverheads does more than match up. They win more often than not. Lord Botetourt, Christiansburg, Stuart’s Draft, Central Woodstock, Poquoson, Glenvar…… At what point do we give them the credit they deserve and stop projecting with wishful thinking? Bold take maybe but I don’t believe this game will be very close. Riverheads by more than two TD’s.
  18. CalPreps updated overnight. Here is what it shows. Galax 27 - Essex 21 - 62% favoring Galax. Riverheads 28 - Radford 27 - 53% favoring Riverheads.
  19. I’m happy to be wrong. With only 4 seniors starting, it’s looking pretty good going forward. Shane deserves a lot of credit. If for no other reason than just keeping the kids pulling in the same direction after that 1-3 start to the season. He could have easily lost the team after that start.
  20. I appreciate your explanation but it’s not my “beef.” I was simply offering an overly simplified answer to the question “why such a long gap between games?”
  21. I was just reading some of the threads on this subject on NCPreps. It appears the North Carolina General Assembly got involved and took control of the playoff system away from the NCHSAA. The General Assembly is placing a 64 team maximum per classification and NCHSAA has to stay within those, plus several other, parameters. I was surprised to learn North Carolina has 300 more high schools than Virginia. I knew NC had more but not that many more. NC has 686 schools to VA’s 386. If NC has 8 classes with 300 more schools, it doesn’t make sense for VA to have 6 classes with 300 fewer schools. Not one person in those threads was happy with the changes coming up in 2025/2026.
  22. In all honesty, if LCA is allowed to compete in VHSL, everyone should be able to transfer and play where they want. It’s not like VHSL has a leg to stand on if anyone got caught recruiting. Threaten a lawsuit, they’ll cave like they did with LCA and Grayson County.
  23. I’m just having a little fun since Hill and Clements are both from Mount View.
  24. Reyshawn Anderson from Union is Region 2D offensive POY. Omarii Hill from Graham is the Region 2D defensive POY. Mount View representing. Would really be something if Clements had won some awards. Mount View could have both offense and defense POY in 2D.
