Galax has made it to the state semifinals something like 7 out of the past 8 years but lack of coaching has always held them back. They have lost to Radford in the semis or finals each of those years except one loosing to George Mason. Galax has plenty of talent to compete with Radford and Radford's coaching staff will say the same thing. Galax just does not have a coach who understands the Latino style of play and the kids can't play any other style. This makes little difference in the weak region C but really shows when Galax plays Radford or Giles. Radford is the standard for group A soccer in this part of the state.

I am sure glad to have Graham in the MED! For years, the MED has been neglected by local media outlets such as the Roanoke Times and now we can go to the Bluefield Daily Telegraph website to get coverage. Galax and Graham finished 1-2 in the Region C golf tournament yesterday at the Lower Cascades at the Homestead and not one mention in the Roanoke Times. This is nothing new to the Galax golf team, they have won 4 or 5 regional and 3 state championships since 2004 and rarely get covered. No third tier revenue is shared with any other member of the conference therefore all television revenue would remain in Texas control.

As I understand it, Big 12 and ACC are the only conferences that don't share all athletic revenue. That is attractive to Texas based on the $300 million Longhorn Network contract it has with ESPN. Texas does not want to share that revenue with anyone. UCONN would be the other "perfect fit" for ACC to get to 16 teams. I think Rutgers and WVU would be added only after exhausting possibilities for Texas, Notre Dame or UCONN.

Actually Fort lost it's opener to Rural Retreat 28-22. Galax may have it's best team ever with an embarrassment of riches in terms of athletes. I can't see any D1 school being able to match them athlete for athlete. Grayson has it's best team since the "91 team went 9-1 loosing to N. Buncombe, NC. That Grayson team went to Lee County and knocked them off after Lee had lost the D-4 state championship game the season before against Tabb. Galax and Grayson should both be undefeated going into the season finally at Grayson on November 4. Galax goes to Craig Co. next Friday and Grayson goes to Carroll next week with only district games remaining for both after that. They should both walk through the MED.

Galax beat East Mont 56-12. I will have to check the stats but it will be close, Galax had 5 backs over 100 yards rushing.

This probably is a load of bull but I thought I would share. A booster from Tallahassee Florida told me about a month ago that Clemson added women's golf this year to begin play in 2013 for the sole purpose of preparing to enter the SEC. He said women's golf was a requirement for SEC consideration and the only sport that was required that Clemson did not already offer. Take it for what it's worth.
