I was sitting with Galax's band and thought it hit the ground. But with both officials making the same call, I gave them the benefit of the doubt. I'm surprised to see all the vitriol over the officiating. I thought it was a well officiated game. That was the only play I thought could have been an issue. I also like that the officials let the kids play and be a bit physical, as football should!

My intent was certainly not meant to throw off on Dixon or Galax. With great success comes great expectations. Sometimes that expectation gets carried away! People need to realize around town, it’s not easy nor is it guaranteed for Galax to reach Salem. If it were easy, everyone would do it.

Based on what I saw yesterday in Saltville, Chilhowie can absolutely beat Riverheads. That is NOT the same team that beat Galax last season! Best of luck to Chilhowie. Bring that state title back to our side of the state!

The sentiment from that post in 2017 still rings true. With Dixon’s leadership and strength and conditioning program, Galax has enough talent to win Region 1C four out of every five years. Especially with Region 1C being as weak as it’s been lately. Let’s examine how Galax has ended several seasons under Dixon. 2012 - loss to Honaker 2013 - loss to Haysi 2014 - loss to Haysi 2016 - loss to Riverheads in state semis. 2017 - loss to Chilhowie state semis 2018 - loss to Chilhowie state semis Im not real popular around town because I’m very much a realist. Galax is the class of region 1C. But that doesn’t guarantee them a trip to Salem. It’s hard to get there, especially out of arguably the weakest region in Class 1. Galax’s success over the years is something to be proud of. But calling a spade a spade makes me a “hater”!

Jamie Harlesss has a legitimate complaint. The state semifinal tiebreaker should not be a completely different tiebreaker system than the regional format. I think this is just more posturing by VHSL to divert attention away from it's own shortcomings in setting up the tiebreaker under the new 4-region format. They screwed up in writing the rules and deserve to be taken to task over the screw up. The statement in and of itself, "VHSL Semifinals on Decemner 1st at higher seed based on power ratings" deserves mockery!

There have been more twists and turns in this thread than a cheap garden hose!!!!!! Nothing compares to authentic Philly Cheesesteak! At least nothing I've had outside eastern Pennsylvania. A suitable alternative for anyone making a trip to Galax is a small little place called Miller's. It's a Mennonite place on US 58 about halfway between Galax and Hillsville.

I'm not sure what Parry McCluer returns but Galax will be a tough out come playoff time baring injury. They returned everyone from a 22-5 team that reached the state quarterfinals last season. Two D1 players on the roster and their best player may be an 8th grader who can't play varsity yet.

Hough got revenge on a seemingly unbeatable Mallard Creek 19-7 Friday night. My brother said Hough has battled through injuries all season but are healthy now.

I saw Galax dominate Radford in week 2 of the season to the tune of 41-21. Radford actually needed a garbage time TD to make it that close. It appeared to me, Radford couldn’t contain the speed Galax had on the outside. Galax had 212 yards passing at halftime. Radford adjusted by dropping more guys into coverage which opened up Dixon’s running game to get chunk yardage on virtually every carry. Galax finished with 258 yards passing and 289 yards rushing. My point is, if Cam is accurate, he will have open targets aplenty!
