  1. I would like to tell TennesseeMom that she owes me a refund. I actually paid for my oldest son to finish his junior year at D-B after we moved back to VA mid year. This was back in early 2000 but I will not charge any interest. $2k will suffice.
  2. Dude...you have a huge chip on your shoulder. Relax, you might live longer and actually enjoy the ride a little more. It is apparent that you are not familiar with the concept of introspection. By the way, I tend to go wherever I want to go. I am tempted to play the "one-upmanship" game with you but that would be boring. As Gunny Highway said, "Sir, you are starting to bore the hell out of me".
  3. Me, on the other hand, being a VHS alum and somewhat of a lone voice at times, has to either engage in other threads or just wait until baseball season. I am not very patient so I just jump in the deep end all the time.
  4. I get that but...seems (maybe it is just a perception) that most of the GC folks only talk about GC. Nothing wrong with that but most of the posters on here contribute to most any topic, regardless of school affiliation. That kind of input adds to the conversation, regardless of the topic. Even some of you Richlanders branch out every now and then. And there is so much more to talk about than just one topic/school. Just my 2.5 cents.
  5. Does the GC crew ever offer anything that is not directly related to GC?
  6. I know this will not work for everybody but it did for me... Everybody in my family is big...tall women, large frame men, etc. I am pretty average at 6'4" for my family. My wife is a 6' former college volleyball player. About 10 years ago, both my wife and I realized that we had put on a whole lot more weight than was healthy. I was up to around 290 and she was almost 200. She called one of her old college pals who is now a registered dietician and personal trainer. Cindy told us the plan was simple in our case because neither of us had any underlying health issues (we know we are very lucky in that area). She told us to start working out 3 times a week and stop eating after 6 p.m. ... and cut out sodas. We started going to the gym together at 5:30 a.m. each day for an hour. No meals or snacking after 6:00 p.m. It took about a year but I lost 60 pounds and currently fluctuate around 225-235. I feel much, much better. I did not actually realize how bad I was feeling until then. I think the not eating after 6:00 was huge for me. My wife is consistently around 150. She almost looks too thin with her height. We still workout 3 times a week but not always with each other. It became a habit, a good habit. Maybe the best thing to come out of it was this: Our sons also started going with us to the gym and got in good habits of working out (mostly body weight training for them when they were younger) and have almost never snacked after 6 so I hope they continue. So far, no weight issues for them despite being large boned and tall. I wish nothing but the best for everybody trying to become healthier. I also think it was a great idea to post on line and build a support system. You get to see lots of ideas, what works, what did not, etc.
  7. I suppose all those other 2A schools have no football players on their teams? Those Clarke County teams that went back to back were composed of ALL football players according to their rosters for those seasons. Dan River is a football school. Altavista is another example. Point is that most small schools have multiple players playing multiple sports...it is not an issue isolated to one particular team/coach.
  8. I purposely used "Mustard" because the whining of Q-man reminded me of the color left in a whining baby's diaper. You guys truly crack me up. Personal attacks? Really? Before I waste any more time maybe you should re-read the posts. Oh yeah, saying you are not thin skinned does not make it so. As I recall, this is the only thread I have every discussed anything GC any time, any place. The Blue Devils mean about this much to me (I am holding my right index finger about a quarter of an inch above my thumb). I guess my noting that GC always has talent but IMHO plays in an undisciplined fashion is a personal attack. But my question is an attack on who? And noting that it may not now be that way, as I have not seen them play in a while is an attack? If so, maybe I am guilty. Call UVAO and sue me. And this is directly to GC_Quincy: You seem to think that VHS' success rate v. GC has some effect on my life. Unlike some, I do not live vicariously through the high school exploits of teenagers. I enjoy discussing sports in general with the folks on this board. Every now and then, things get a little heated but no one, not even my old pal Ryan, acts like someone stuck them in the eye every time another poster makes an observation about their team/school/politics/diet/or frequency of bowel movements. Speaking of BMs...I have just enough time before the Steelers/Broncos kickoff...
  9. I see the GC boys ruined their "forum" and now they are staining this one! Predictable, boring and fatuous. Quincy, M.D.; did not you get the memo that thin skin and small minds need not apply? "My school beat your school" may have been useful in elementary school but does not pass mustard in the world of grownups. Your refusal to face reality does not change the fact that your basketball coach has wilted under the bright lights. And if you think beating VHS at the Bearcat Den hurts my feelings, I say "tsk, tsk" and shame on you. Until you sprout an iota of wit, I suggest you crawl on back over to that barren waste land of juvenile gibberish you call home. And you follow that up by being on the wrong end of a 59 point thumping? Head back to the holler Brer Rabbit.
  10. I get that but forced homosexual actions are a little more than just offensive.
  11. I am getting the feeling that GC and Union fans do not care for each other very much.
  12. They are all good at something. Most have areas in which they are not so good. Yours just happens to struggle on the big stage. Get over it Mr. Dookie. You are all wound up because I pointed out that GC's head coach has a less than stellar record in the post season. Facts are facts chrome dome.
  13. I just cannot fathom what makes a group of kids think this is cool or acceptable in any fashion.
  14. And the Gate City invasion starts? Come on fellows. If you are happy with winning a district/conference then all of you GC basketball fans should be just ecstatic. However, where is that GC football mentality that championships are the only thing that matters? Some very talented GC teams have fallen well short of expectations. Like I said earlier, I have not seen them much lately BUT when I have, they do not play in a disciplined manner...and you cannot win at the highest level playing that way. Talent will always get GC to a certain level. At some point, you have to outcoach somebody on the other end of the court. If you are happy with winning districts, well good for you! I have my doubts that most of the GC faithful are really happy with the end results though. And for goodness sakes, please avoid the temptation to run the typical GC retorts. "You wish you could win the district", or "What has your team done?" or "We beat you" do not address the lack of real post season success for talented GC basketball teams.
  15. The Northern Virginia Daily reported that both JV and Varsity basketball practices and games have been suspended the outcome of an investigation into student athlete activities. Not much detail but how unusual is this?
  16. Dickie V...not trolling at all. Winning the regular season means squadoosh. With some of that talent, I would have thought GC would won more than the regular season. When they get deeper in the playoffs v. the really good teams what has happened? Unbunch your panties, put on your I Love Duke hoodie and chillax.
  17. Much like football was stronger in the West, I think basketball is stronger in the East this season. I get to see some of those East teams now and there some good ones.
  18. Gate City is always pretty decent but I am not sold on the head coach. GC always seems to have talent but lacks discipline for the most part. That is just my impression. Admittedly, I have not seem them that often, other than a few games v. my beloved Bearcats the last few years. Since they will not play this year, I doubt I will see them in 2016.
  19. I just looked up Union's record. I stand corrected. 2 losses in the Arby's Classic is it. Maybe they are numero uno?!?
  20. Hard to not have Radford at #1 at this point in time. Union may round into a top team but until they do, potential should not be placed above results.
  21. 1) Change phone numbers 2) Hire UVAO 3) Trust funds for the immediate family 4) Hire VHS the best football coach money could by...with the caveat that only I could fire him 5) Complete the grand slam of turkey hunting 6) Pick one random 1A or 2A school and revamp their whole athletic facilities and computer labs 7) Make a big donation to my church...only if they would let me fire the current preacher 8) Become a politician...or lobbyist...or "pundit". 9) Build a new Masonic Lodge in the Valley 10) Build a great golf course and hold an annual swvasports members only tournament.
  22. I guess Peyton answered my question Sunday. 75% of Peyton is still better than 100% of most QBs. I hope he has a strong post season and then gracefully retires.
  23. Maybe you should seek guidance from whomever is assisting Steph. He seems to have it all together. I am sure he would be glad to assist such a close friend.
  24. You, my child, have been and are being played like a fiddle. When will you learn?
