  1. I am biased but Darryal Wilson was the best pure athlete I have seen in person (from SWVA that is). UT wide receiver, 1600 meter relay NCAA Champion and NFL wide receiver. Saw him dunk from the foul line in a high school game. Unbelievable athleticism. Before the onslaught begins, this is my opinion, not a statement of fact. I do not know any of the Curry family either.
  2. How about pros you actually played/practiced with? Darryl Wilson (VHS-UT-Patriots)...he is a few year older than me but we practiced together in HS in summer. Derrick Hord (Tenn High-UK-Cavaliers)...played b-ball with/against him many times at the YMCA summer games. Thornton "Bean" Stringfellow (VHS-VT-Atlanta Braves). Atlee Hammaker (ETSU-SF Giants)...summer league one year. Dana Alison (Warren County High-JMU-Oakland As)...played in the Valley League one season with him. I just realized how old I am getting!
  3. Manning is a class act. I just hate to see him "hobble" out of the game. I am just hoping for something good for him then a graceful retirement...as a Colt if possible.
  4. Since Denver locked up a playoff spot last night, do they stay with Osweiler? My hope is they do; they make the Super Bowl; Peyton enters in the 2nd half and leads the Broncos to a come from behind victory in the Superbowl; immediately announces his retirement and starts his coaching career at UT.
  5. Liberty one of your locks? All I can say is...J-M-U!!!!
  6. Just curious but what does a game v. THS have to do with GC keeping up with Union? It is an out of state, non-conference, non-district game. Looks good on the "resume" but little else.
  7. Oh, I almost forgot. Stop visiting my profile page. I cannot be more blunt than this: I am NOT INTERESTED in joining your staff!
  8. See what happens to a good thing when "rod" appears? Seems your paranoia is in line with these lyrics: The more I want in, the more I want in The less I know, the less I know But I'm forgotten, I'm forgotten I'll be alone, I'll be alone, I'll be alone With everybody watching me Watch out for those scary keyboard commandos you perceive as lurking in the shadows. But I doubt that you have anything to worry about; you are not that important, talented, provocative or entertaining...as evidenced by that ghost town of a message board over which you have domain
  9. I would insult you but the sad truth is that you are not bright enough to notice. On the vague chance that you did get it, I am sure that my intellectual prowess would end up as uncredited content on that laugher of a "message board" contained within the "site" that was vacuous enough to hire a real "rod". Now either SHOCK me with something intelligent or original...or go back to the sandbox.
  10. That site has nowhere to go but up...it cannot get any worse. Politically correct, boring, and overly moderated. Maybe if they keep lurking around here, someone over there will figure out how to run a website...but GMan should get a stipend.
  11. You want to learn the true nature of a person? Play a round of golf with them!
  12. In a dark place, you have found yourself. You must unlearn what you have learned, young padawan. But all is not lost for in the distant future, in a county far, far away, you will come to understand the genius that is Bearcat Bob...
  13. Apologize?!? Apologize? We talkin' about an apology? C'mon on man!
  14. I am dead serious when I say that this forum, when compared to any other, is Nirvana. Sarcasm, wit, nuance and hyperbole all have a place here alongside truth, veracity, sincerity and dogged "homerism". GMan is very, very good as the "Overlord". The content here is second to none. Welcome cowboysnskynard. I hope you have as much fun here as I have had!
  15. My eyes have been opened and I see the light! You just have to connect the dots...all of which lead to Richlands of course! So with my new found understanding, I have deduced that the VHSL 2A state championship was actually won on Sept. 25, 2015; and all thanks to VHS no less! I will list the empirical evidence leading to my epiphany: 09-25-2015: Spies from Appomattox subtly hid amongst the Richlands faithful. In what was expected to be a ho-hum contest, VHS jumped out to a big lead! They had exposed a weakness previously thought impossible to exist. Unfortunately for VHS, they did not have the personnel to finish the deal. But, the spies from Appomattox saw a glimmer of hope! 09-26-2015: The Raiders head coach calls an emergency meeting of the coaches, players, student body, concession staff and janitorial engineers. "I know it is a seemingly impossible task, but I believe if we work together, we might, just maybe, have a shot at getting past Richlands. And IF we do, we win the State title that same day". 09-27-2015: Though most thought the head coach was delusional, a community wide séance was held invoking the spirit of Vince Lombardi, Knute Rockne and Bill Dudley. The plan was underway. 09-28-2015 through 11-27-2015: Yada, Yada, Yada. All totally irrelevant events. 11-28-2015: Appomattox employed the secrets unwittingly supplied by VHS and did the unthinkable! They bested the mighty Tornadoes! Though barely, needing OT to vanquish the greatest show on turf. 11-29-2015 through 12-12-2015: All just a formality; a foregone conclusion; much ado about nothing. For we all knew the season ended that fateful night in September! P.S.: What about 09-04-2015 you Union fans may be wandering. The only explanation I could come up with is that Sept. 4, 2015 did not occur on this plane...a Twilight Zone kinda' thing!
  16. "Clarke could not have beat (sic) ...." That is an opinion, not a fact. You are entitled to your opinion. BBBUUUTTT, high school football, for the most part, is about matchups and emotions. Clarke may have run Richlunds off the field or vice versa. Buffalo Gap may have spanked everyone given a tweak here or there. I do not know nor does anyone else...even those who "just know football". I am glad I have to hit the road this morning or I would spend a little more time delving into your narcissistic psyche.
  17. Well now, I was at the championship game yesterday. Appomattox was no doubt the better team but the score is no where close to indicative of what the game was actually like. It was a close game throughout. The score was 14-6 starting the 4th quarter. Appo stretched it out with a late score and 2 pick sixes within a couple of minutes when Clarke was in desperation mode. It was not like a "running clock in the second half" type of game if you know what I mean. Appo was clearly prepared to stop the Clarke ground game and had the athletes to do it. Every time it appeared a Clarke RB had room to run, one of those Appo LBs caught them from behind. But who knows how those runs would have been defended by other teams? Clarke, Union, Richlands or whoever may have been the 2nd best team this year but who plays for second? I will say this, I found myself pulling for Clarke just because I like to be contrary for some reason and do not care for teams from the Dogwood district. But by late in the 3rd quarter, I could not help but admire and appreciate Appomattox. They were not your typical Dogwood team.
  18. I sat in my tree stand this afternoon with every intention of shooting a slick head for the Hunters for the Hungry program. However, I made the mistake of taking my smart phone with me. I looked up from reading these threads just in time to see "ole wally wall hanger" walk back into the woods. I was formulating my devastatingly witty and clever retort to futbolking's plea for no more golf. What the heck, it was a almost dark anyway. I was so distraught I even forgot what I was going to post. Since it is going to be 70+ degrees tomorrow and too hot to hunt, I am contemplating a trip to Salem to watch a little football. Anybody else making the trip?
  19. Capital Ale House in Fredericksburg...a "gabillion" beers on tap...many of which are craft and independent brewers...I think the food is pretty good but cannot seem to recall after sampling most of what was on tap...
  20. Best chicken wings I ever had were in the clubhouse of Glenmore Country club following a great round of golf. Let me tell you about that round...
  21. Spotswood has a Friday afternoon money game. Everybody meets at the clubhouse at noon, throws in $20, low round takes all. No handicaps. Foursomes are drawn out of a hat. Usually a couple hundred or better in the pot. Have not been in a while but 68 degrees in December? Fairways and greens baby!
  22. ^^True...very true. Now I have an incredible urge to get off the computer, leave the office and hit golf balls.
  23. I am not nearly as good as I once was and know that to get there, I have to put in the work. But the drive to do that is waning fast. I now play in more Captain's Choice events than anything...mostly for business dealings. And I HATE Captain's Choice tournaments. Probably why I cannot break par anymore...actually breaking 80 is getting to be a chore.
  24. Probably will be the case sixcat. But I still think that the night his (ex)wife spanked him around with the iron was the beginning of the end. The "Tiger aura" was decimated when the tawdry details came out about his propensity for fornication. I just do not think he was ever emotionally close to the same after that event. And I was a Tiger supporter. I thought he was great for the game and sports in general. I loved watching him on Sundays. The determination he exuded was rare. I cannot stand to hear him speak now with all the excuses, whining, and knowing that he has (or had) the moral values of a hyena.
