  1. BW...you know you have buried yourself when blueinbama chastises you. He is probably the most level-headed, pragmatic poster on here. I have stepped in it a time or two and he is very adept at putting things in perspective. I would heed his observations were I you. And by the way, have you noticed that you are about the only person in any of these posts who uses vulgarities? That ought to tell you something... (I did not count blueinbama calling you the "a" word...it was most appropriate).
  2. I must have used up all my likes. UVAO...a picture speaks a thousand words! Like, Like , Like!
  3. I would like to extend my most sincere apology to you. After re-reading your posts in this thread, I realized just what an accomplished, intelligent and articulate person you are. I mean you are the "most liberal" person here. (Was that supposed to be a positive?) I guess that you are now the go to guy for all things sport-wise since you have more sport knowledge than all who abound on this board. And your posts are so clear, concise and intellectually honest that I nominate you for the position of Dean of Students of the SWVA board! Too bad that you had to lower yourself to posting on this board...which is obviously a mere shadow of the mighty LPD board. Tells us again why that board failed? I am a bit puzzled why it would have faltered given you were the super poster over there. Hopefully, the multitude of your admirers will follow you here to get their daily dose of wisdom. Only speaking for myself here but I have certainly "learned" so much from you! Thank you for that gift! And just imagine the heights your school would have reached on the athletic fields had you actually participated in sports! Had you played, your school may have been able to compete with Gate City! Just imagine that BW. But now that I understand you a little better, I see that you did not participate because of the unfair advantage your contributions would have created. That was very magnanimous of you! And you guys thought I was a pain in the behind. This gomer actually takes himself seriously.
  4. BW...Do not feel bad...many quit playing sports when they have to move up to the varsity. Most have already made the move up before their junior year but, hey, your okay, I am okay, we are all okay. Okay? By the way, I know nothing about the LPD board. But you can be sure that thick skin, a sense of humor and a sharp wit are necessary to survive this board. My question is if the LPD board was so awesome, why are you here? I hope you stick around longer than you did in high school football...you will learn a thing or two about sports. You do seem to be a bit angry and quick to temper. Does dyspareunia run in the family by chance?
  5. Altavista's stud is out for a few games due an injury. They are still good without him but I would like to see DR against a healthy Altavista.
  6. You are correct in that Martinsville, Dan River and I am sure others from that area will be strong. I was just speaking mostly of the Shenandoah and Bull Run Districts (Conferences 35 and 36). I have only seen Altavista out of the Dogwood when they played Spotswood.
  7. Union, Lebanon, VHS or Gate City would roll through Conferences 35 and 36. George Mason has a very good coach and gets a lot out of a little. Clarke County has a good coach but no basketball players. Page and Luray are way too soft. Madison Co and Strasburg have some athletes but are really young and a year or two away. Of course, all this is from a person who is (1) SWVA biased and (2) has only seen the C-35/36 teams a time or two this season. I have been wrong before but I really think the SWVA will have a banner post season. Some of their toughest games will be just getting out of conference/regional play.
  8. In response to Bigwinner: Gate City is almost always tough come tourney time so a run from them would not be surprising. Lebanon (when healthy) certainly passes the "eye test". But if I had to pick a team, I would go with VHS. Just because they are so talented. I wish Ballard Lee was around to mold this bunch. That being said, Union could easily make the trip to the State tourney. What is nice is that there are at least 4 quality teams in SWVA. I have seen a bunch of the 2A "powers" in the Shenandoah (Luray, Page, East Rock, Wilson); Bull Run (Strasburg, George Mason, Madison County); Dogwood (Dan River, Appo). None of these teams would win the SWD. The best team up this way, besides Spotswood (3A), is 1A Altavista. They are solid.
  9. I saw a Stuarts Draft game last week...they run full court press, jack up 3s, substitute 5 at a time (they have 15 on roster and all play)...no half court defense at all. They have scored over 100 6-7 times already. They have also given up over 100 several times. Fun to watch if you like high scores...not so much if you actually appreciate basketball.
  10. There are very few quality basketball team's in 2A in the Valley and Central VA. Maybe NOVA or Tidewater has a team or two with state aspirations? I did see a one loss George Mason play the other night...completely unimpressed. With that being said, I think one of the SWVA teams will make a deep run in the post season.
  11. I guess it is official...the Gate City fans sufficiently ruined the CMD board and have now migrated to this one. There goes the neighborhood.
  12. Just wanted to point that out since beating Gate City is so much fun, second only to THS. I believe my 'Cats can be a good squad this season. Sounds like 2A basketball is wide open this year so, "Why not us"? is my 2015 philosophy.
  13. When we finally finished our relocation, my youngest son came home from the first day of middle school basketball tryouts at his new school advising that we needed to go shopping. He explained that all the kids (6-8 graders) at the tryouts were wearing a kind of body suit under their practice uniforms, knee braces, shooting sleeves, wrist bands, etc. I informed him that I had yet seen a "body suit" win a game and he would do just fine without one. At their first game, I was amazed at the outlandish crap most of these kids were wearing under their uniforms. Since then, I have noticed that just about every team we play has numerous kids wearing this stuff. Maybe I am just too old school but this bugs me. My son wears an ankle brace due to a sprain and that is it. I do not recall seeing all this extra paraphernalia in SWVA/UETN. Maybe it is a Valley thing. We recently went to watch Spotswood High play and several of their varsity players were wearing all that garbage. Whatever, it is, I do not like it. Please accept my apology for this interruption of real basketball discussions.
  14. I well remember the Sampson era at UVA when UNC ran the four corners "offense" with tremendous results against the 'Hoos.
  15. One of the best times I ever had hunting was in Saskatchewan, Canada. Several of us went. All our deer were over 250 lbs dressed. We used Redwillow Outfitters. Their website is pretty good. www.redwillowhunting.com. Very nice cabins, ATVs,, good food, very high success rate. Recommend them highly.
  16. Even if I were not a UVA alum/fan, I would have to root for the BEARCATS in this one!
  17. Hacker my friend, that is funny. Attributing a comment to another poster, with no basis in truth, is the epitome of trolling.
  18. Proverbs 10:9 -- Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but he who makes his way crooked will be found out. I am now moving on to basketball.
  19. Who said I was speaking of you? Maybe a guilty conscious? It is just too easy with you! I will say this, men of integrity would not have to make a "decision" in those situations. Your word is should be your bond.. Thanks MM...
  20. It is easy to make any kind of wager if you have no intentions of ever paying off and there are no repercussions for welching...but that is an argument for another day.
  21. Too paraphrase one of my least favorite persons, "What difference does it make"? 55 should be the goal because it is the record that matters.
  22. The lull before the storm...basketball season is just underway.
