OU81 10 Report Share Posted October 18, 2006 can any one post a link to a website that shows what the enrollment ranges are for the six virginia classifications????
GMan 3,569 Report Share Posted October 18, 2006 That's a problem because there are no "true" enrollment ranges for the six classifications...that is the main problem with the current system...a school may be one division within one Region but could be in a different division if they were in another Region. Here is a link to the "new" Classifications that go into effect next season... http://www.vhsl.org/MoreAboutVHSL/0709AdoptedRRPlan.doc Here is a link to the "current" Divisions being used for playoff purposes... http://www.vhsl.org/0506footballdivisions.doc If you notice, several Division 3 schools in other Regions would be Division 4 schools in Region IV...see the "real" problem??? Where do these numbers come from? Are those projected numbers? MAN! That 8th grade class must be HUGE, to cover the graduating class and then add about 80 more kids! haha
zack 10 Report Share Posted October 18, 2006 he is right. a good example is the river ridge district currently in region 3. christiansburg, hidden valley, cave spring are all division 3 . salem, pulaski, and blacksburg are all division 4. when this district moves to region 4 next year, cave spring will be the only team in division 3 and they will probably be division 4 within a couple of years. the problem is money and how virginia is divided. for example, you have the northern region where schools are sprouting up every year and this area near wahington dc is exploding with new schools. a lot of these schools are 1400 to 3000 students.then you have the beach region where it has grown also, but not as fast as northern region.you virginia beach, the largest city in virginia, metro norfolk, hampton chesapeake, newport news.then you have the richmond metro region which is composed of a lot of division 5 and 6 schools. you have a few schools in this region which still play division 5 but could be division 4 but play division 5 because of travel issues. the roanoke region is a lot like richmond except on smaller scale. several schools close to each other. william fleming, patrick henry, northside, hidden valley, cave spring, salem, lord bototourt, glenvar, are all within a few miles of each other. RichlandsAlum 678 Report Share Posted October 18, 2006 [ QUOTE ] i noticed it called the SWD district 2..will the SWD be renamed? [/ QUOTE ] With the addition of Abingdon and Marion, it will technically be a "new" district. No reason to suspect it will be known as anything other than the SWD. And the political split will be interesting as well -- the "interstate corridor" schools will be in the minority.
vcats1 10 Report Share Posted October 18, 2006 NO it will stay the southwest and the new district with VHS will be the Clinch Mountain District.

VA decided to use 9-12 for the '07 R&R instead of the "old" 9-11.
CougarFan 10 Report Share Posted October 18, 2006 The current classifications were done using 9-12 numbers, as well.
CougarFan 10 Report Share Posted October 18, 2006 If VHS doesn't have 730 kids, then they're padding their numbers to get extra money from the state. Those numbers are Va. Dept. of Education numbers.
hhstigerfan 12 Report Share Posted October 19, 2006 Those were my thoughts too. But I've always wondered where the city of Bristol annexed all that around Exit 7 and almost all the way to John Battle HS's front yard if that didn't increase their enrollment by a lot. [/ QUOTE ] They probably didn't pick up much in the way of residential property with that annexation, so there's a decent possibility that it wouldn't affect enrollment numbers at VHS much (if at all). The entire district has more students than grundy, tazewell, or graham and yet they still are playing in single A.....John Battle 638, Gate City 599, Lebanon 575, Lee 840, and Virginia High 730?!?! They are too afraid to play teams like richlands, tazewell, graham, or any other AA team in the playoffs.....those schools are just pathetic....sack up and play somebody! hhstigerfan 12 Report Share Posted October 27, 2006 If I only had 500/600 kids in my school, I wouldn't want to compete against schools more than twice my size either. AA goes all the way up to the 1500s.
