BigD4VT 11 Report Share Posted November 4, 2006 Ok, this weather theme is getting out of hand... Did anyone feel this? I didn't. It seems to have been centered near Short Gap. http://wusatv9.com:80/news/news_article.aspx?storyid=53285

GMan 3,569 Report Share Posted November 4, 2006 Giles Co. sits on one of the biggest fault lines east of the Mississippi. Here is what the USGS said about Thursday's quake...lists it as a "probable collapse event" at about .6 miles deep...sounds to me like an old mine shaft gave way... wavefan64 10 Report Share Posted November 4, 2006 More than likely a longwall panel settling around 1800 feet underground in either Buch. 1, or an old Island Creek mine..Nothing to be alarmed about..Probably shook some houses though..lol
Bluefield_Rules 46 Report Share Posted November 5, 2006 The St. Claire fault line, which is large than the San Andres fault line in Cali, runs right down the heart of downtown Bluefield. It pretty much follows the railroad tracks through South Bluefield.
BigD4VT 11 Author Report Share Posted November 5, 2006 Can you imagine the damage if we had a real earthquake in this area? We don't have the building codes they have in California.

wavefan64 10 Report Share Posted November 7, 2006 There are a lot of fault lines people don't realize..small ones that run through coal seams..Don't freak out though, it wasnt an Earthquake, just a HUGE coal bump. The last one that happened was when Buch. 1 caught on fire.
Fighton_3 10 Report Share Posted November 7, 2006 Does that fault line run through springville too?
