beaverbaseball 10 Report Share Posted January 17, 2008 http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3200307 Quarterback Ryan Mallett, who left Michigan after his freshman season because of concerns he didn't fit in new coach Rich Rodriguez's spread offense, enrolled in classes at Arkansas on Wednesday, athletics department spokesman Kevin Trainor confirmed. Former Michigan QB Ryan Mallett will have to sit out the 2008 season under NCAA transfer rules after enrolling at Arkansas. Mallett, one of the country's top quarterback prospects after his senior season at Texarkana High School in Texas, will have to sit out the 2008 season under NCAA transfer rules. He will then have three years of eligiblity remaining. The 6-7, 252-pound Mallett gives new Razorbacks coach Bobby Petrino a quarterback-in-waiting. Starter Casey [censored] is a rising senior and the Hogs have no heir apparent after highly regarded sophomore Mitch Mustain transferred to Southern Cal before the 2007 season. Mallett played in 11 games as a freshman for Michigan last season, filling in for oft-injured senior Chad Henne. Mallett completed 61 of 141 passes for 892 yards with seven touchdowns and five interceptions. He is a tall pocket passer with a very strong arm and is well-suited for Petrino's pro-style offense. Mallett, who also considered transferring to Tennessee and UCLA, threw for more than 2,500 yards and 27 touchdowns as high school senior and was named the Texas Class 4A offensive player of the year. trublue 939 Report Share Posted January 18, 2008 ....do you think Petrino will be around after Mallet becomes eligible, since, longevity is not a common thread in his resume???? LOL ....I think Mallet chose Arkansas b/c it's closer to home/TX.
GetMoney55 11 Report Share Posted January 18, 2008 yeah id say thats why he chose it. Reports have said that he had a hard time going to Michigan because of the distance away from Texas.

He grew up a huge Arkansas fan and the only reason he didn't go there out of high school was because of Mustain.
GetMoney55 11 Report Share Posted January 18, 2008 speaking of Mustain, anyone else think has ruined himself because of his ego? He would have been the starter this year at Arkansas instead he transfered to USC to be the 3rd string qb. Now next year I doubt he starts over Sanchez who has proved that he is a good qb and should have a good time starting for USC. Now, instead of Mustain being a 3-4 year starter at Arkansas, he will have to wait another two years behind Sanchez.
trublue 939 Report Share Posted January 18, 2008 Turmoil was the name of the game going on at Arkansas. Nutt had lost the support of his fan base after Malzahn, OC, and Mustain left, plus, couple others. A nasty email from a family friend of Nutt's sent to Mustain before he transferred didn't help either. You're talking about a young kid, highly recruited by all, choosing his state university...playing as a true freshman in 8 games...winning all of them...being benched after throwing an int. in a game ...and never regaining his starting job. Wow, that would be demoralizing to a pro...let on a young kid that was successfully doing what he was recruited to do. Now, whether, USC was the right choice for him...who knows....but, I'm sure, he'll be given a chance to compete....that's all you can ask. Just as Mallet transferring to Arkansas doesn't guarantee he'll start....it's the same for Mustain....time will tell for both.

GetMoney55 11 Report Share Posted January 18, 2008 if they get Pryor he will start right when he steps into that college door. Believe it. If he goes to OSU, Michigan, Penn State, Pitt, he will start no matter where.

[/ QUOTE ] But you've missed the point...regardless of whether Pryor goes to Michigan or not, Michigan's QB next season will have never taken a snap at the college level. 'Rocks was making it sound like Pryor is already a seasoned college player...
GetMoney55 11 Report Share Posted January 18, 2008 yeah I know. but pryor is unbelievable. He has all the tools and all the right stuff that could honestly put him up there with senior quarterbacks. He has no flaws.

[/ QUOTE ] Maybe at the high school level...college is a completely different animal. Everyone is fast, strong, agile, mobile, etc.... I almost guarantee he didn't have many 240lb. linebackers who run a 4.5/4.6 40 chasing his ass in high school. The game at that level is much faster than what he is accustomed to seeing...even in the slowest conference in the Nation (the Big 10/11)... GetMoney55 11 Report Share Posted January 18, 2008 did you watch him in the Army Game? he had over 150 total yards and played once every 3 or 4 series. against 200-240 pound linebackers with 4.4-4.6 speed.

GetMoney55 11 Report Share Posted January 18, 2008 they are all players who will start when they get to college. high school all-americans are practically college players already. when Terrelle had a good game and got MVP of the Army All-American game, that shows that he is legit. I have gotten word that if Star Jackson decides to go play QB at OSU, Terrelle will go there and play receiver and also play basketball. GMan 3,569 Report Share Posted January 18, 2008 Also, no one knows for sure if Pryor will even play football in college. He may completely change his mind and decide to devote himself to his pursuit of basketball...

GetMoney55 11 Report Share Posted January 19, 2008 most high school all-americans will start their first year unless they just happen to be behind a former all-american or someone who has truly shown off in college. unless that is the case, most of them will start.
