Gym 10 Report Share Posted August 25, 2011 I know a couple of years ago someone on here posted the area high school's enrollment. With Graham and Grundy now single A, I thought that it would be interesting to see where everyone was at number wise. Does anyone have the numbers? VHSLhelper 571 Report Share Posted August 25, 2011 Those are the nuumbers from March, except for Wise Co., which was their 1sr day numbers, so add some to Lee & Burton, and a bunch to Castlewood. I've also read on another board that Eastside has picked up about 20 since then. Here's what the AA's had : Tazewell 663 Marion 715 Richlands 736 Abingdon
ThomasDenton 79 Report Share Posted August 25, 2011 I can't believe Battle dropped so much. Didn't they have somewhere around 650 last year or the year before?
#1bluedemons 10 Report Share Posted August 25, 2011 Do the top 8 teams in each section make the playoffs or is it the top 16?

They have less enrollment than some of the other Single A schools.
VHSLhelper 571 Report Share Posted August 25, 2011 (edited) I eyeballed the list a few months back and if the tralignment were done using the March numbers, Richlands would be about the 7th largest A school. But if I rem. correctly, their 8th grade class was a lot bigger than the Sr. class, so they may end up still being one of the smallest 10 AA's. I didn't look at the others. Like I said a few years ago, if Tazewell County had shifted the line a little east near Pounding Mill, Tazewell & Richlands would've both been A sized last time around. cityofRaven 2,453 Report Share Posted August 26, 2011 I wish there were somewhere I could see past figures. I know both Richlands and Grundy were both up near AAA numbers about 20-25 years ago. About that same time frame Garden was up in the 600-700 range.

bugsbunny 12 Report Share Posted August 26, 2011 754.5 http://www.vhsl.org/files/rr-Sept_30-membership-figures.pdf Do they (VHSL) redraw the line every year? I was looking at the web-site and it looks like there are approximately 300 schools in VA that play football and they are roughly split into 3 categories (A, AA, AAA). Is that the way it works? VHSLhelper 571 Report Share Posted August 26, 2011 every 2 years.. they split by thirds, so the number always changes
