  1. Helper, do you have Chilhowie or Galax with a better rating?
  2. 17 carries, 106 yards. Most of that in the 1st half. He plays both ways and Dixon needed him more on D in the second half.
  3. Narrows is without a doubt a much-improved team, but a 47-point gap is a mighty big hill to climb in one year
  4. Galax vs. Narrows, last 5 years, all Galax wins – 2016: 54-7 2015: 75-27 2014: 49-13 2013: 55-7 2012: 48-8
  5. MLB/TE, Stokes, was a beast at Galax.
  6. If enrollment had anything to do with it, Carroll would be 8-2 or 9-1 every year. It's money. Revenue from football has dropped by two-thirds since leaving the Southwest and they had basketball games with bigger gates than three of their five football gates last year. Can't fund an athletic department like that.
  7. Carroll was on a run and just scored to get to within 10, and the inbounds pass got loose in front of the Salem bench. Giles had a clean shot at the ball when Salem 14 tackled him. They were on the floor and a ref got in there trying to separate them, then just a big scrum. Lundy went flying over the pile after getting chucked by the big Light kid, somebody had a hand on Giles' throat and Beamer got slugged. I don't think any Carroll players left the bench, but the guys on the floor were all there. It was right in front of the Salem bench and at least one Salem bench player was in it. No fans got on the floor. I didn't see any, and you can't get to the floor from the stands on that side of the gym anyway. Coaches, admins and the two deputies staffing the game were in there pulling kids away and directing them to their bench area. Carroll coach Hawks said he had a pretty good view of Beamer getting slugged by Salem 10, since Hawks had Beamer in a bear hug at the time. Salem 10 got a T, which was his fifth personal. Carroll had two Ts. Salem 20 never got into the game, but he got the flagrant foul and the ejection that should have gone to 14. That was huge, because 14 hit a big 3 and then had a 3-point play after all that went down. The video guy must have been working on a Snickers or something, because he missed the whole thing.
  8. Check out the trip if Franklin wins. Shoo. Check out the trip from Franklin to Haysi. Shoo.
  9. Be a little more specific. From the Galax Gazette: The game was halted for more than an hour with 5:45 to play when Galax lineman Cross Gonzalez suffered a back injury on the fumble return. As a precaution, a Virginia State Police medical helicopter was called to the scene and transported Gonzalez to a Tri-Cities area hospital. “I’m not sure what happened, I just pray that he’ll be okay,†said Dixon. “I don’t know the whole situation, don’t want to say too much. I’m just praying, the whole team is praying, I know our community is praying, and certainly the people at Haysi were wonderful.†With the teams sent to their locker rooms, a local pastor led the silent stadium in a heartfelt and touching prayer for Gonzales. According to a tweet from Galax City Public Schools, he was released from the hospital Saturday night.
  10. Depends on one's definition of 'best way to get there.' I drove 500 miles, on cruise control, without touching the clutch the day before. I love Hayter's Gap. It's also the shortest way.
