Paul Wheeler

Especially in comparison to his cross-town pupil, it's hard not to say that Paul Wheeler is on the hot seat at Virginia High. Whereas Steve Wright has the Trojans contending for a district title, we've lost both Bristol games and have yet to score an offensive touchdown this entire season. We didn't really expect to beat TN High but that was a shameful performance by our team & alot of it had to do with the fact that Wheeler absolutely refused to throw the ball. So far this year we are 0-5 on passes. Maybe we're jumping to conclusions a bit fast but it seems Wheeler's days are numbered and that his system just doesn't work anymore. Amazing how quickly a coach can go from beloved to being on the hot seat. If it weren't for that amazing game-winning pass last week, this may not have been as big as an issue. Thoughts?

Yep. And the thing is, we've got athletes, they're just in the wrong system

You need a reality check! Take a better look at that team. With the exception of a very few, the most un-athletic bunch of kids VHS has ever had! It's not Pauls system! It is what he has to work with! Without picking on players by name just not a very skilled bunch!

Its hard to say "his system doesent work anymore" when the Jet Sweep series is all the rage in high school football.

Give the man time and get the kids in the weight room, in 2 years if things havent improved then give him the boot. It takes time. Battle had turned the corner before Wright got there

The system...for the most part is the same system that is being ran at Battle. VHS relies on the Sweep more but same blocking schemes. The difference is that Battle has had kids who can throw the football. The couple of times the VHS QB tried to throw the ball last week looked awful. May be the worst QB in swva throwing wise. He is a good athlete though. The VHS team does play defense and if you watch them, they're very well coached. The problem is the kids. Coach Wheeler works his kids hard and when you cant even field a JV team, that says enough about the work ethic down there right now. Speed and being athletic can only get you so far. Be patient, give Wheeler time and it'll pay off.

This is nothing new with this group of athletes. They have been pushed around since pee-wee and midget football by the county. Once it happens it's in their head for good and hard to overcome.

This same discussion is on the CMD board and someone had the balls to say Virginia High doesn't have the enrollment to compete. What would the fans say if they had to deal with an enrollment of 200-250 kids instead of 600 plus or whatever it is at Virginia High.

For one you can't set up and throw the football while on your back. Virginia high will get it together this year wait and see. Also I find it kinda funny that the sophomore qb from Battle's father has been down to Virginia high asking around and talking of moving his son to VHS. Maybe all isn't well up on ol battle hill?

I remember that comment on the CMD board and the poster said that they actually meant the team's enrollment, not the school's. Had me confused too.
