BandanaVTDavis4321 1,719 Author Report Share Posted March 17, 2022 St Mary's beat Braxton County last night by 10 points as expected. Bluefield will play St Mary's on Friday, the 18th in the AA Boys Semifinals. Poca vs Ravenswood will follow. Poca's Isaac McKneely just won the Gatorade WV Player of the Year for the 2nd time, as he won it last year. McKneely also just won his second in a row Evans Award. The Evans Award is given to West Virginia's overall Best basketball player, and he is the first to repeat (back to back) for the Evans award since Randy Moss. McKneely is a 4 star senior and UVA commit.

BandanaVTDavis4321 1,719 Author Report Share Posted March 19, 2022 Final- Poca 65 :Bluefield 48. Beavers came to play for sure and battled and battled, but just came up short. Still, a pretty solid show by the Bluefield Beavers of 2021-22.

Looney, Fuller are juniors and R J Hairston is just a sophomore. The future is bright for this team. BandanaVTDavis4321
BandanaVTDavis4321 1,719 Author Report Share Posted March 19, 2022 Rapidbeaver, Bluefield could use 1 more guy with some length inside, mainly for defense. The kid from Poca who is not all that tall, but physical (Marshall linebacker commit) got a few "muscle baskets" inside where he just out muscled the Bluefield defender. If Bluefield had just a touch more length, those shots would have been changed. Buster Large is a fantastic coach and just has the Beavers in the mix every year. On the years when the Beavers win state titles, they usually have some length inside that changes shots for the opponents. The Beavers are almost playing with 5 guards, or more like 4 guards and a small forward and it's tough to win it all like that. With today's "guard age," it's very possible to win the whole thing with 4 guards and a true center or 6'6 big man that avoids fall trouble. Only my opinion. Bluefield puts so much pressure on the ball against opponents Before the opponents have a chance to get it inside, and this year, not a ton of height at the WV AA level. Those great Champanville teams a few years ago just had absolute mismatches because height like that for an AA team is just rare. Because most of the AA teams in WV, at least right now, don't seem to have a lot of height, the Beavers can certainly be in the mix, not just because other teams don't have a ton of height, but Bluefield is just dam* good, but I think they just need 1 guy inside, a 6'6 type player that can given you 10 points offensively, but completely ruin offensive possessions for the opponents inside game. Couldn't have said it better myself. I believe the Hairston kid will grow at least a couple more inches before he leaves Bluefield. That will make him at least 6'6. That might help. You are correct about not having alot of height coming out of a small school like Bluefield. When I graduated from Beaver, I was 6'8" and left ETSU 6'10". SO The potential for the Hairston kid to grow 2-4 more inches is not out of the realm of possibility, being that he is just 15-16 years old.
