Ryan4VT Posted February 4, 2023 Report Posted February 4, 2023 History was made today in the SWD tournament. Kendi Dye became the first female to win a Southwest District championship by winning in the 120 weight class. Proud of her and all of the Blues who help Richlands win the SWD wrestling title again this season. On to regionals at Union next Saturday! swva_havok_fan, rvtne216, Liam McPoyle and 5 others 7 1 Quote
Ryan4VT Posted January 31 Author Report Posted January 31 She’s done it again. Kendi won tonight on Senior Night for her 100th career varsity win. She’s the first girl in Richlands history to hit the mark, the first in SWD history, and we believe the first in region 2D history as well. I’m one proud brother for sure. Slap the Mat Posted February 2 Report Posted February 2 That is GREAT!!!!! She has done a fantastic job competing in a "Boys" sport. I hope she does well at the upcoming Districts, Regionals, and State. I would like to see her on the Podium at Salem. Quote

Slap the Mat Posted February 21 Report Posted February 21 (edited) Six State Tournaments at six different high schools. Date TBA, I think it will probably be Saturday, March 1st. The VHSL will have to find six high schools that aren't tied up with B'Ball, have enough parking and motels in the area. Class 1 & 2 will have 168 wrestlers each in their brackets and 3, 4, 5, & 6 will have 224 wrestlers each in their brackets. These tournaments can be done in one day, a very long day. What would really be bad is a 1st round single elimination format where the losers would be one and done. That was done on Friday at Salem in 2015 because of a big snowstorm that hit on Saturday. Edited February 21 by Slap the Mat Wrong date Quote
S10SQUAREBODY4LIFE Posted February 21 Report Posted February 21 If it's gonna be separate, and now there's time, let the top 4 go instead of 3. Quote
Slap the Mat Posted February 21 Report Posted February 21 VHSL will never do that. The reason for only 12 in 1 & 2 is low number of schools in each classification that have wrestling. In class 2, 40 schools with wrestling out of 49. When they were making this decision, the VHSL's originally wanted to go with only 8 in a weight class for 1 & 2. Principals & AD's fought that and got 12. Quote
tbgfan Posted February 28 Report Posted February 28 Kendi Dye becomes first Richlands and SWD female wrestler to make boys state tournament Congratulations to Kendi. Know her brother Ryan is stoked. Quote

Beautiful and talented young lady. With her work ethic, skill set, her instilled values, she will enrich E & H's wrestling program and do very well. Best to you Kendi. Well deserved and earned. Quote
