Is Northwestern still a powerhouse? Quote

Is Northwestern still a powerhouse? They were down in terms of W/L last year at 4-6, but were loaded with young talent. They should be much improved this year. I saw them against Vero last year and they only lost by 5 in a game that went to the wire. GilesBandanaMan 1 Quote

JDHoss Posted August 16 Author Report Posted August 16 Jensen Beach 22 West 0 Half West with 4 turnovers and their QB knocked out of the game on a hit where he looked like one of those crash test dummies without the seatbelt. Quote
JDHoss Posted August 16 Author Report Posted August 16 Jensen Beach 29 West 0 Start of the 4th, and we're heading home because I'm pretty sure West isn't making a comeback. This was a long game with a ton of turnovers (mostly by West), penalties (on both sides) and a long injury timeout for the West QB (who appears to be ok, but never came back in). Palm Beach Gardens v Vero Beach should be more competitive tomorrow night, but Vero (as usual) loaded up with some mercenaries over the off season and is loaded. They have a 4 star LB from here in Fort Pierce who is committed to Ohio St. A 4 star WR/ATH who is a JR and committed to FSU, a 4 star JR OT from here in Fort Pierce who has tons of offers, a 3 star DB who is committed to Illinois and a freshman QB from here in Fort Pierce who after a sensational 7 on 7 summer camp tour has offers from Miami, UCF, FSU and Florida. I love going to games in Vero. Unlike most of the schools here, they have a good crowd and atmosphere, complete with a train horn, but their recruiting program makes it hard to root for them. Sounds much like Hampton High in the mid 90s. Like em or not like em, fun as heck to watch. JDHoss 1 Quote
tbgfan Posted August 16 Report Posted August 16 Going to "piggyback" on to this thread. It isn't Florida football, but it is coastal football. I hope you posters can indulge a "senior relative" in giving kudos to the Loris Lions upcoming season. 2024 Football Preview: Loris football 'can't wait' to get back to the gridiron | Sports | myhorrynews.com JDHoss and GilesBandanaMan 2 Quote

tbgfan Posted August 17 Report Posted August 17 2024 CNB Kickoff Classic recap for Horry County football | Sports | myhorrynews.com Loris head coach Greg Mance watched his 3A team knock off 5A’s Carolina Forest in style on Friday, flashing big plays and quickness on both sides of the ball. Mance said the scrimmage gave his team an opportunity to dive into a rhythm and gain some confidence ahead of a season in which the Lions are expected to be a talent-filled group. “Our kids are fired up,” Mance said after the classic. “They’ve never beaten Carolina Forest before. They’re 5A. Our kids, they wanted to play. They competed and did the little things right. We didn’t turn the ball over and we created two of them, so that was the difference for us. I’m really pleased. I saw flashes and a lot of execution… I feel really good with this tonight.” JDHoss 1 Quote
JDHoss Posted August 17 Author Report Posted August 17 LaBelle at Tradition Prep in Port St Lucie. It’s a rare low humidity evening with a comfortable 84 degree temp. LaBelle is located between the west bank of Lake Okeechobee and Fort Myers. Tradition is a local private school in their third year of football. Tradition doesn’t have a stadium yet, and is playing at a city park that hosts youth league football games. The strange part is that LaBelle has an enrollment of 1222, while Tradition has over 700, but this game has the feel of an Ervinton v St Paul matchup with both looking for their first win. 🤔 Tradition 6 LaBelle 0 8:10 2nd Quote
JDHoss Posted August 18 Author Report Posted August 18 Lawd have mercy…. Tradition 6 LaBelle 0 Half We’ve lived here for 6 years, and have been to plenty of games previously when we were on vacation, but considering their enrollments, these are the two weakest teams I’ve seen. I can’t complain about the price though. There was no one collecting money at the gates. Free football is good. Quote

Tradition's Facebook page said it was $7 to get in, but maybe they couldn't find anyone to work the gates on a Saturday night. There was maybe 300 people there, and LaBelle brought at least half of them. I'll give LaBelle this too, they were loud. Every damn one of them either had a cowbell or air horn and knew how to use them. I'm glad they got the win. It was a really odd night.... The game kicked off and the offense and defense trotted out on the field, broke the huddle and went to the line of scrimmage, then the refs stopped play and removed their caps. The place went completely silent, and you could faintly hear the national anthem being played on what sounded like an old transistor radio. People stood up, but were turning in all different directions looking for the flag, but I guess like someone to work the gate, they forgot that too. The starting QB for Tradition was Ahmar Atwell, who was the starter on 8A state semifinalist Treasure Coast last year. I have no idea what happened there, but to transfer to Tradition was a head scratcher. Atwell was a kid that last year looked like he could play QB or WR at a Division 3 or maybe even Division 2 college, but in this game with a terrible offensive line, WR that couldn't get open and if they did, couldn't catch the football, Atwell looked like he had never played the position before.
