Chilhowie jumped out to a 13-0 lead because Tazewell hadn’t had a chance to work any kinks out due to a COVID-19 issue cancelling the Ridgeview scrimmages. Once they did, Tazewell ripped off a 40-13 run for a comfortable win.
Sure, and the quarantine aspect should be noted, but it doesn't change the fact that it was 16-12 in Chilhowie's favor at the half, and there no starters on the field when Tazewell pulled away in the 2nd half.
I keep tellin’ y’all that 1D is very, very down. Lest we forget this is the same Chilhowie that Tazewell beat comfortably in the benefit game.
For the record, and you can revisit the game thread for that week as evidence, Chilhowie was going toe to toe with Tazewell until the teams pulled the starters, and if I'm not mistaken, Chilhowie had the lead at that point.
No disrespect but saying Chilhowie having the best 1A coaching staff in this side of the state would be highly debatable much less saying they are better than Casto and staff at Riverheads!
None taken. Chilhowie has consistently proven to me their ability to adjust in game and keep their players motivated. I have never seen a team be dead to rights at halftime and come back to win the game in the second half as often as Chilhowie has in the last few years. If you look at the sheer number of assistants Chilhowie has, and the amount of high level success that those assistants have had in other sports, I believe they have the deepest coaching staff in 1A, including Riverheads. If we're comparing Robinson to Casto (or several other 1A head ball coaches, for that matter) he can't hold a candle, but I believe his shortcomings are made up for by having the best assistant staff that I'm aware of.
Just on this thread you would have to say that Akers and his staff would be a top staff.
There are some folks in Wythe and Scott County who would dispute that. However, I would imagine that Patterson left behind some talented assistants, so you may be on to something.
As far as Chilhowie's coaching, nothing against Robinson who's been very successful coaching two different sports, when you consider that John Sabo and Matt Snodgrass are assistants in Chilhowie, the head coach may not even be the best coach on the staff.
Holston is VERY deceptively talented. A team that been through a lot of embarrassment over the last few years learned "how to win" last year. Bearing that in mind, Chilhowie has quite possibly the best 1A coaching staff in the state. It would be hard to pick against the Warriors, at this point.
It had no bearing on the game but these refs this year I swear are blind. I think maybe 3 or 4 flags all night and no flags for holding which is impossible to happen.
Looking very forward to next week.
Watch out for Marion, they have a lot of momentum. Scored 14 unanswered against Richlands.
I'm a fan of Graham's originality. There aren't many schools around here that have an original logo, let alone an original name. While "Scarlet Hurricanes" isn't as cool or creative as "G-Men," I'd like to point out that Marion took that name from a local landmark back in the 20s before there were any nationally relevant teams named the "Hurricanes," which is pretty cool considering what a generic name it seems like now.
As far as unis go, I usually like Abingdon's Oregon imitations. In particular, the uni coupled with the mirror "wings" on the helmet a couple of years back was a slick look.
I like any helmet that has an original logo on it. My favorite was probably PH's helmet from a few years ago that had a silhouette of Patrick Henry inside the "PH."
Week 10 updates.
