  1. I was referring to the blowhards in Congress making more than $30/hour, which makes me sad
  2. They clinched the district but the conference is still up for grabs. If Union wins out, they win it. If VHS beats Union, they win it.
  3. That does not tell me much man, they have played all kinds of crazy teams in different locations and I dont know how good their conference competition is. I know Union lost up there early in the season but won at home, I just dont know if its a quality win or not. Union needs momentum BADLY going into Tuesday with VHS coming to town.
  4. I believe all those blowhard probably make a little bit more than $30/hour, which makes it even more sad. :(
  5. Union defeated them tonight, 62-52, at Union. Barnett led Union with 20 points while Noaks added 17. Is Letcher any good at all?
  6. Are you arguing that the officials in this area do a great job of officiating games? There are times that it seems to everyone in the crowd that the refs are calling one thing and letting one thing go on one side, or that one side seems to get away with more, etc.... People with no rooting interest have commented on how bad the officiating can be in SWVA, its not just fans moaning and groaning. Consistency is what most fans (I believe) want in officials, that and knowing the rules. If youre gonna allow one team to hand check, allow both teams or call the fouls. If you are gonna allow physical play, fine, but let both teams be physical. Ive witnessed Zack Moore get a technical for simply taking off his suit jacket. Not yelling at the ref at that moment, just turning around and taking his jacket off and a T was called. In the GC/Union game at Union, Union got away with an OBVIOUS foul on one possession, and on the next, got a call as a make up call. I dont believe in make up calls. Just because you missed one call does not mean you should not continue to do your job and call what you deem a foul. But people do get suspicious about bias when certain players get scolded and called for more fouls, or some teams get away with more on a consistent basis. Have you ever seen a game in which a team only shot two free throws until the last of the fourth quarter in which the opposing team had to foul to put the team on the line, when said team was consistently throwing the ball into the post and working inside? I thought it was literally impossible yet I saw it happen.
  7. ONCE AGAIN, WHAT DOES THAT HAVE DO TO WITH ME POSTING MY OPINION? and you do realize that those posts are in response to other posters, not out of the blue comments except the thing about Seattle, which was directed at no one in particular. You threw a fit when I posted that I disagreed with the logic that because Peyton Manning holds so many of the passing records that he is the best QB of all time, and gave an apt analogy as to why. But you just wont let it go. So forget it, just ignore me then, avoid the threads I post in or just skim over my posts since you have such vile in your head for me. Good, let the hate flow through you.............(first one to get the movie reference gets a point)
  8. And now we have our first basketball referee. No one is saying you have an easy job, and its to be commended to take on that duty, but the quality of consistent officiating in SWVA is just not very high. Theres no way around it. I dont know if the refs simply dont work as hard some nights or have built in, overt bias agianst teams or what have you, but there are games that seem like one team gets away with murder while the other team racks up ticky tacky fouls.
  9. Stripes is right, over the back is not a foul, only the pushing is the foul But I agree that officiating, as a whole, in this area is horrendous. Im glad to see that the Union folk were able to recognize that a bad call is a bad call, regardless of which team got called for said foul.
  10. I never once said I was right in this thread, I just posted my opinion. If you have a problem with me giving my opinion, simply do not read it. Its a simple concept. I never once said I was right and everyone else was wrong. You are putting words in my mouth. Please show some examples instead of vague references. Again, you seem to not be able to view me in a state with no bias.
  11. Union has one physical inside player, but Gavin while being tall is more of a finesse guy, same with Mitchell. Barnett is as tough as anyone but he doesnt have great height.
  12. What was the deciding factor in the game GC? Was Union in foul trouble? Union only goes six deep really, seven at best. So we have depth issues and if one guy is in foul trouble, it really puts us in a bind.
  13. And I am just giving my opinion. Im not saying my opinion is worth more than yours, I was giving you my opinion after you shared yours. Why is it people get upset if I share my opinion? Thats what this place is about, discussion. We were having a discussion, I saw what I believed was a flaw in your logic, and pointed it out in regards to why I dont believe Peyton is the greatest QB. Peyton might hold all the records, he does. Passing yards, TDs, etc... But records alone do not determine greatness. Marino was the long time holder of some of those records, but he was never considered the greatest. Same with Favre. I cannot for the life of me figure out why when I share my opinion I am in the wrong but its okay for everyone else to share theirs. My opinion is just that, an opinion, and I dont claim its worth more than anyone else's. Why is it a problem for me to respond to your post with a logical post defending my opinion, when you did the same exact thing?
  14. I agree that Kareem is severely underrated in terms of his legacy, he was competing for titles in Milwaukee way before his glory years in LA. The skyhook was unblockable, it was the perfect shot. And to be able to succeed at such a high level when he was as old as he was is an incredible feat, kinda like the way Tim Duncan is now. I dont think Kareem is the greatest, I would rank Jordan ahead of him for sure, and probably Bill Russell, but Kareem has to be in the conversation for top five.
  15. And I posted my opinion of using the touchdown record as a metric as declaring the best QB. We were going back and forth about it, and I gave an apt analogy as to why I (MYSELF) believe that the TD record is not a great indicator of the greatest QB because before Manning held it, Favre did and no one called him the greatest. I seem to think that you just dont like me, and thats fine. But I was giving my opinion on him using that analogy, and was looking forward to his response. Its not about right or wrong, its about debating opinions, and that is exactly what I was doing. Ive made peace with most everyone on here, and if you find it annoying that I like to go point for point in an argument, avoid my posts, ignore me altogether.
  16. I didnt go to the Gate City game no, and I dont usually go to the away games because of my driving situation. I come on here, give GC props, and yet you are still a douche. I didnt know that the pinnacle of sport was 2A VA basketball, or that a person had to travel to every single away game, including hour long weekday trips, to know sports. You have a real hard on for me, just for the record I do not swing that way but am flattered by the attention.
  17. That game was huge for both teams. After looking at the standings, Union now has to finish with wins over VHS and Lebanon to win the regular season. If GC had lost Tuesday, they would have been put in a serious bind. Union still has the better conference record, but they really needed that win and Gate City got it. Congrats. I am not sure if Union has it in them to beat both VHS and Lebanon, if not we are gonna have to win the tournament to advance.
  18. Okay, just went back and read yesterday's paper. Apparently GC had hit some key three pointers and pulled away in the fourth quarter after the game being tied at the half and Union being down only four going into the fourth. I dunno what was going on, Jay Gavin had 0 points and Mitchell had 4. That seems odd, and probably the reason Union lost was that either GC really turned up the pressure on those two guys or they had horrible games. Barnett was the only double figure scorer for Union with 11.
  19. So by that analogy, Kareem is the greatest basketball player of all-time. He after all has the most points in NBA history, so he has to be the best then, right?
  20. If VHS puts it all together, they are the best team in the region. Union holds a win over them, but I have very little hope about the game when VHS comes to Union. Congrats on a truly great win
  21. ? I posted after they lost to Lebanon, and I was otherwise occupied last night and honestly had no idea the game was Tuesday night. Gate City won at home, congrats on a great win. I dont travel to most of the away games, and if I forget to check the twitter, I dont know when they play. Congrats to Gate City on a good win. I cant comment on the game, I know nothing about it, just saw the final score two seconds ago.
  22. I agree with the list but theres no way I would put Manning ahead of Montana, because of Manning's post season choke jobs. Its not like he did not have offensive talent around him, Edge, Harrison, Wayne, Clark, etc... He had weapons. Sure Montana played on great teams, but Manning's teams werent chopped liver and Montana never had as many bad post-season games as Manning has had. The 91 NFC title game was hard to swallow, but Montana was hurt early in the game and Parcell flummoxed the Niners offense and it came down to the last possession. That Giants team were pretty good, the defense was NASTY.
  23. I had forgot about Long, he was a dominant beast at UVA. And yeah sorry bout Sims, he was just a bust altogether. I hope we can get along better now, I am not here to try and make a fuss or piss anybody off.
  24. I disagree on some of your Bradshaw assessments, he never blew anyone out (he was one Jackie Smith drop from losing to Dallas. That is one of the most memorable calls ever by Verne Lundquist) and played against not great teams twice in the Rams and Vikings. He was only SB MVP twice while both Brady and Montana are the only three-time Super Bowl MVPs
  25. Are we talking about what QB you would rather have in a Super Bowl, or the greatest QB of all time? My answer is the same regardless, Montana at #1. He never threw an interception in the Super Bowl, is maybe the most clutch quarterback ever, and has his signature moments. I also believe he beat better teams in his four wins than Brady overall. Seattle is better than Cincy x2, Denver and Miami but as a whole I think the SF opponents were better. He has his come from behind, 90 yard touchdown drive in the fourth quarter to beat a good Cincy team with his winning TD pass to Taylor in the last seconds, he out dueled a future HOFer and top 5 QB in Marino and beat them convincingly, absolutely annihilated John Elway 55-10 (still biggest winning margin ever), and beat a decent Cincy team for his first SB with Kenny Anderson as the Bengals QB. It shoulda been a San Diego/San Francisco Super Bowl, I believe the Chargers had the better team overall but had to play in CIncy in a game with like a minus-50 windchill. SD had Fouts, Winslow, etc.. but the Bengals prevailed that day and didnt get blown out by SF in 1981. I would rank them: Montana Brady Bradshaw I never really viewed Bradshaw as an elite, top of the top QB. He was the beneficiary of arguably the best overall team ever with HOFers at RB, two WRs, one OL, DT, two LBs, and a top 5 all-time CB in Mel Blount, He made some big plays in big moments, but his career as a whole is not as good as Brady or Montana. Neither Tom nor Joe were ever almost benched permanently for Terry Gilliam. If we are just doing like top five all-time QBs, I would rank: 1-Montana 2-Brady 3-Manning 4-Elway 5-Marino
