  1. I have a kid in that team. So it would serve you well to watch the comments. They weren't even the stadium and couldn't hear the anthem being played. Post a name or message any of us and we can discuss. Takes a tough guy to hide behind a screen and callout a bunch of 16 year olds.
  2. No worries, only having a little fun. The radio announcer was butchering that name all game long. He has a good leg that could be a weapon this season.
  3. Any win is a good win I suppose but I felt like Union could have played better. I honestly feel like we didn't show all of what we had. The running game looks good but o line still needs work. I don't think Turner looked his best, he made a few good throws but I totally agree with a statement above that he seemed to be in slow motion on screens and short passes. Defense looked good but Burton wasn't much of a test. Kicking game looks solid, and for goodness sakes the kids name is Falin..lol All in all a decent start but I think we are better than we showed. Poor Burton may win the Cumberland but it's not because they are loaded.

    Union?

The kid that from Lee is going to be an asset on defense, he looked really good. The Gibson that played was the younger one, he's a Freshman I think. The older is not playing this season.

    Union?

Mostly from the spread and they spread it around. This year's group of WR are as talented as any they have had, possibly more. Turner is noticeably more comfortable in the passing game compared to the start of last season. He looks better that he did even late in the season last year when he played very well. Stidham started on the O line but only played one series, I think he's to valuable on D to use on the O line. The O line is really the only question mark at this point IMO. From center to right guard they are ok, not spectacular. The left side seems to still be a work in progress.

    Union?

Pretty good start for the Bears. Started a little slow on offense. O line is going to take a little work. Once things settled in they moved the ball really well. Wide receivers are going to be hard to handle. Defense looks very solid up front, Secondary should come along okay. Score with starters on the field was 24- 10. Elizabethton was a solid opponent. Very strong up front defensively.
  7. 49 @ Burton seems very high considering enrollment. Probably not 100 boys in the whole school.
  8. Looks like Union is at 65 or so from my best count. Seems to be a little off previous years. Very Senior/Junior heavy.
  9. Union Pre-season August 10 Scrimmage @ Elizabethton 6pm August 17 Benefit Game vs. Va High 7pm @ Bullitt Park
  10. I'm with you FBDevotee.. should be another good year for the Bears, not sure if it will be the best but just as good. And I couldn't agree more with 2017 being their shot. Probably the last shot at a deep playoff run. 2018 will be a turning point IMO for Unions program. Theres still a little talent in the 2018 class but after that it drops way off.
  11. I am excited to see Abingdon play the other MD teams. I know they have played GC in the past but its a good change. Abingdon and Union will be an interesting matchup and definately helps Unions power point situation rather than playing Eastside or TW.
  12. Union has quite a bit returning. Turner back at qb. Mitchell back of course. Also returning 2 other starting WR. Lost Jenkins at WR but have a good replacement that will turn out to be a good one. Zirkle, Owens and others back at RB. OLine will be a question mark, lost 3 starters there. D should be as good. Stidham back on DL is tough to handle. Have to replace a few secondary guys but the talent is there IMO.
  13. Great thread topic.. as much as I want to go Mountain I'm not sure I can. I think both districts will be similar this season with Union and Richlands at the top and everybody else playing for 2nd. But I do think the remainder in the SWD are overall going to be better.
  14. No.. not just anyone can show up and "walk on" a college football team. There has to be some interest there from the program. It's not like an open tryout. Seldom does a walk on do more than be a practice squad guy but of course there's always exceptions.
  15. Milo may be the smartest guy on this board! Lol.. Plain and simple, Richlands took it to us. We were out coached and out hustled. Richlands exposed our weakness staying in a zone D, Union has a tendancy to stand around on offense and they knew it. On D, we had no answer. Good game by Richlands and good luck moving forward.
  16. For the record.. Union did lead at a few points.
  17. I won't disagree on the officiating. They were consistently bad both ways but I agree they were a little more touchy on the GC side.
  18. Best end of the deal for Union is they had a few guys step up and play well when Slagle went out.
  19. Ignoring this guy above.. Slagle is good. Pretty good cut under his left eye and it swelled pretty quick. Shouldn't be any problem going forward.
  20. Not every post that's made is about Richlands, but thanks for your opinions. It will be meaningful for the two teams that will play.
  21. Guess that makes the SEC tourney championship a little more meaningful now...
  22. Thats the way I thought it worked.. I can't imagine it would be different in different conferences but I guess it could happen.
  23. Am I incorrect in thinking that the conference tourney champ is the #1 seed? The regular season champ gets an automatic bid but not guaranteed #1 unless they win the tourney? I know it at least used to be that way. Maybe its changed and I just missed it.
