  1. Sounds like the Bearded Moose wins out. Thanks for the advice!
  2. We might drive up from Kingsport for this.Either that, or down to Knoxville for Alcoa-CAK or to BSG for Union - Graham. Is Cuz's still open or have they closed for the season? Are there any other good, unique (non-chain) places to eat?
  3. Remember that one. Me and my buddy watched Richlands vs Poquson at Liberty, then got in the truck and drove to Salem, getting there about 10 minutes before kickoff. Great day of football.
  4. JJK used to have the best hot dogs in the LPD, maybe in all of SWVA. We ate at Annette's Dairy Barn before the game. It had probably been 35 years since I had eaten there. Still pretty good, but I wish I would've had room for one of the taco salads.
  5. We left at the start of the 4th because my wife didn't heed my advice and only wore a light jacket, but I can see how it would take awhile getting out of there at the end of the game. To the poster who said it had the worst sight lines, after thinking it over, I have to agree. We've been to games all over the Southeast, and I can't think of anywhere worse, or really even close to it. Otherwise, it's a really nice facility.
  6. The parking situation wasn't bad. We got there at 6:20 and parked in the 2nd row in the field above the school. Nice school, beautiful setting with the sun going down, and a really nice facility. That said, I didn't much care for watching the game there. The fence area is way too far away from the field, and I don't know that watching from the stands would be any better. Seemed odd to be watching a high school game from that distance. On a side note, if I ever do go back, I'm going to try one of those taco salads. After seeing several people with them, I was wishing we hadn't stopped for supper before the game.
  7. Thanks guys. Been about 3 years since I've been up that way. We might consider the shuttle since my wife is not quite 2 months from a knee injury. Went to a game in Florida a couple of weeks ago where we had to walk a long way, but it was all flat ground. Look forward to checking out Central's digs.
  8. Where exactly is Central's field at? We're thinking about taking in this game.
  9. At Palm Coast, FL undefeated Matanzas leads New Smyrna Beach 14-7 in the 3rd.
  10. Here in Orlando it's Daytona Beach Mainland (ranked 13th nationally by MaxPreps) 14 Dr. Phillips 7 at the half. Looking forward to the 4th qtr fireworks show put on by Universal Studios, which is just across the street from us. They supposedly stop play until the fireworks are done.
  11. Someone told me that next year, instead of having regular seasons, Union & Richlands have agreed to play 10 straight weeks and CBS will televise the games in prime time, touting the games as a new drama series....
  12. Went to a band festival at Crockett, but that's been about 15 years ago. Decent visitors side seating then, from what I can recall. As for this year's DC team, they have lost to a school out of Burnsville, NC by 14, crushed Chattanooga Howard by 50, but Howard barely has enough players to field a team and won't win a game. DC lost 48-14 last week to Morristown West, but I saw West take Knox Fulton down to the last minute before losing 12-9 in Week 1. West will probably make a fairly deep playoff run in Class 5A. Union should come out on top, but after what was an emotionally charged, 48+ minute struggle with Richlands, it may be tough to get back up.
