I'm much more concerned about the offense than the defense. Richlands has played some stellar offenses and offensive players, collier is something special. The offense though, just doesn't have any big time playmakers tho consistently put up points.
-
It sounds like a sad excuse, but richlands fans are not used to losing. We have done very little of that in the last 15 years or so and we aren't very good at it.
-
They may be slated as the #1 team in West Virginia, but I don't think they have a chance to take out Mingo central or Bridgeport, though there seems to be some turmoil there. Though next weeks game against point pleasant shouldn't give some insight on that as well.
-
Ryan, When's the new one coming on? Never mind just saw it.
-
Bluefield is obviously a good team. But let's be honest, since the opener against graham who have they played? No offense to those teams but richlands is not tazewell or Princeton even if the blues are a step down from the last couple of years. This is a richlands team that has seen A LOT of talent in the last 3 games. They're gonna be prepared and hungry to knock the beavers off their dam and right the ship.
-
What team do you think has the best shot to knock off union and represent region D in the semis and discuss why you think said team has the best chance to do it?

That's pretty innacurate from what I saw. In the first half William Byrd literally could not move the ball on richlands defense. I was actually concerned for their quarterback because of the amount of times a tornado lit him up in the backfield. Without crucial richlands mistakes, the score easily could've been 21-0 at halftime, maybe more lopsided than that. Conveniently, bashum didn't play running back the first half. Second half he single handedly took over that football game. It looked like he brought a new offensive line and defense with him when he came in. People may say one player doesn't make that much of a difference, but last night showed otherwise. It was obvious they live and die on his playmaking ability. He is the star on that team.

I knew it was one of those rounds...I looked at byrds schedule for last year and translated a 10-2 record to losing round 1 of the playoffs, that's Richlands high school math for you.Of course forgetting 4A west having a 12 team playoff field threw me off too.
-
No they weren't.. they played Salem in the first round of 4A playoffs last year.

Union very much dominated the first half. I felt like Richlands made good halftime adjustments and the even second half score indicated that. The Blues offense probably couldn't have played much worse in the first half, which didn't do the defense any favors. Obviously Graham isn't a team to take likely in a few weeks. but I feel Richlands at home is and will continue to be a tough out.
-
I fully expect to see these two teams playing again Thanksgiving weekend. Also James Mitchell is an incredible talent and I hope he makes it to play on Sundays. Hopefully Turner's injury isn't as bad as it seemed to be.

One advantage I notice that richlands has by looking at Appomattox roster..height on the outside at wr. Now obviously that becomes less without howie. But based on their listings appo only has one guy at corner or safety that's taller than 5'10 and that is graves. May not make a lick of difference, but something to think about.
-
I look at it like this. I hope al of our far swva teams do well. If you ever visit va Preps you'll see people more or less say that our slow ploddy redneck teams don't have a prayer against teams from central and eastern va. I hope Hurley,Richlands,Graham, union, and Giles all take it to their opponents this week. I'd much rather see the hardware come back to our neck of the woods.
