Bluefield's Caleb Fuller hits 2 long buzzer beaters in the same game. After being down 17 to Greenbrier East in the 3rd Quarter Bluefield came all the way back but with 1 second left and down 3 points and having to in bounds under the opponent's basket it did not look good. But Caleb Fuller took the in bounds, spun and shot from 3 quarter court and tied the game and sent it to OT. Bluefield was up 3 but GE hit a 3 with 5 seconds. With the clock running Bluefield in bounded the ball to Fuller who ran to mid court, released another bomb and it went in again for the win. In the 1930 Richmond Times Dispatch dated 12-14-1930 it states the game was the class B championship. On 11-28-1942 Covington did beat Martinsville for the Class B State Championship 26-0. The game was at Martinsville. This is a game that I was unaware of. I have added it.

Railroad towns taking railroad trips. The Clifton Forge trip was a one timer. Roanoke Jefferson was one of the biggest schools in the state taking railroad trips on the N & W to major schools along the rails. Not that railroad is a day in the park but it wasn't a bad trip back in the day. Much easier than bus or van. Bluefield used to take train trips to Huntington, Williamson, Roanoke and other towns along the rail lines. Just pulling one example. In 2015 Bluefield played Mingo Central in a playoff game. It took Mingo longer to get to Bluefield in 2015 than it did in the 1930's on the train.

Some old Dickenson County papers were put online recently and I found two "new" games between Dickenson Memorial (Clintwood) and Grundy. There was a tie in 1927 and a Grundy win in 1928. Sadly the issues are limited and the football team was not covered very well.

Now it is likely that many schools are playing the same schedule as last year with home/away flipped. If that is so and you are absolutely sure then that is ok. Mickey Thompson was also the coach at Park View Sterling from 1990-1999. 71 of his wins were at Park View and 42 losses. He was the coach at Park View in the 1999 championship game that Park View lost to Salem 21-20. Park View also lost the championship to Salem in 2000 under a new coach. 18 years later Park View had to cancel the season for lack of interest.
