I think Princeton falls into 3A territory with an enrollment of around 1100. But Princeton can't afford to play Graham right now because in WV you have to play 6 teams in your class which for Princeton is WV AAA and in WV Graham is AA. Due to Princeton dropping out of the MSSAC conference all MSSAC teams (and they are all AAA in WV) are prohibited from playing Princeton for 4 years (3 more). So Princeton could play Virginia schools but they would need to be AAA size by WV standards which is 933 students, Right now Princeton does not have the 6 required for next season (they got a bye this year due to existing contracts) so they need to find larger schools to play when they do their schedule for next year. There are only three AAA in schools in Southern WV; Princeton, Greenbrier East and Woodrow Wilson of Beckley. Princeton is prohibited from playing Woodrow Wilson. You see the difficulty facing Princeton in scheduling right now. If Abingdon's enrollment is over 933 I think Princeton would be open to home and home games with them if the schedules lined up. This schedule is full of home/away errors. On one team's schedule listing the game as home and as home on the opponent's schedule as well.

There are some scores for Ewing, Rose Hill and what seemed like a private school in the Ewing/Rose Hill area in the paper at the Pennington Gap library. I got frustrated with it because it didn't even give all the scores for Pennington and Jonesville and St. Charles. It just wasn't a priority at that time for small newspapers. Now the library in Middlesboro may very well have a nice collection of microfilm of the Middlesboro paper(s). That is where I would start.

I was able to get what I have on Belfry and Pikeville because MOST of it was available for researching online because the Williamson, WV papers are online (for the most part) from 1947 to 2002. As you can see there is much missing from Belfry before then and Pikeville is almost done do to trips to the Pikeville Library and help from a faculty member from Pikeville that by an amazing coincidence was at the Library working on Pikeville when I went there recently. There is no such thing as a paper for Belfry and apparently early yearbooks don't exist. Now Middlesboro does have some years of their papers online and so it is on my radar because of that and because Lincoln Memorial may have some papers as well. To be fair though it is not high on my radar. The only two Kentucky schools I've dug into are Pikeville and Belfry. Schools other than WV or VA that are higher priority for me are Ashland-Paul Blazer, KY; Bellaire, OH: Ironton, OH; Louisa, KY; Dobyns-Bennett, TN; Sullivan County TN schools, Mt Airy, NC; Southern Garrett, MD; and Bishop Walsh, MD.

Well I don't know how good they are or aren't but I listened to the James River playoff last year and all I heard was the announcer flirting with the cook and a few football plays so they have to be better.

My experience last year was that they posted them as the teams reported them. So the first version was not the last and there were several updates posted as the information became available.

I don't think they could have had an 81 game regular season winning streak because they tied Nottoway 7-7 in 1986 (And Nottoway was the AA runnerup in 1986 losing to Tazewell in the 1986 championship game). That is the only blemish I've found in the regular season from 1984 - 1990. Looking at what I do have...I have that they lost to Nottoway 21-20 on 9-9-1983. They won the last 8 games of the 1983 regular season but lost to Madison County in the 2nd round of the playoffs in 1983. Although I do not have every game result for the next 7 years I do not have any regular season losses, just the tie with Nottoway in 1986. They won the first three games of the 1991 season before losing 20-17 to William Monroe on 9-27-1991. So if they played ten regular season games each year and they won all the games missing then they would indeed have an 81 game streak but it would be an unbeaten streak not a winning streak as the record would be 80-0-1. Still pretty darn good.

Sorry about the typo. It was 1993 27-18. I just finished gathering the 1993 scores from the AP newspaper list and of the 8 regular season games that were reported they won them all. Next trip to the Library at Longwood University should help me fill in the missing games. Now it's time to work on 1992!

I don't know about the winning streak yet but it is true that they beat Lebanon 20-6 for the championship in 1992 and lost at Giles in 1993. Nine out of ten is not bad.
