  2. I didn’t realize that. I ran into him shopping at Lowe’s about 10 years ago and thought he said he quit. Good for him!!! So he should have close to 20 years with DOC? I’m thinking it was maybe 99 or 2000 when I resigned. Thomas was working property then.
  3. The father worked at Wallens Ridge. Soon after Thomas was drafted, his father quit.

  5. Not to hijack this thread but Wyrick recently surpassed 2,000 career points. Male and female athletes reaching that milestone in the same year, not to shabby for SWVA. http://www.heraldcourier.com/sports/wyrick-reaches-career-points-in-eastside-win/article_d682f5a2-f2a0-11e7-a413-1f21c34a83f2.html
  6. Just think how many points Iverson could have accumulated had he came to practice
  7. Union 22 Appomattox 16 This game will come down to special teams. Mitchell will return a 4th qtr punt for a td. Seems like every team keeps punting it to him (Why?) and Appo will be no different. Hopefully both teams will have an injury free game and the referees call a clean game. Either let them play or call it both ways.
  8. If you could play any professional sport and retire with a HOF career, what team would it be and what position would you play?
  9. Can’t go wrong with the Wolfpack fries. Greasy and smothered. Takes a few extra minutes but they’re worth the wait.
  10. Glad to see reward money is available. With that amount of money, this close to Christmas, someone will talk.
  11. Another reason could be Turner didn’t run up the score on teams that they probably could have and won by an even greater margin. A teams points allowed on defense is what I like to look at. If they’re not trying to run up the score, a coach can’t help it if his backups score. But... he can scream at the top of his lungs for the backup defense to stop them, even if you’re up by 40. I could be wrong but Union is going to be fired up for the chance at #1 and 10-0.
  12. One of the best single game performances for the losing team I ever witnessed.
  13. You’re welcome my friend. Times are tough and difficult situations make it tougher.
  14. The $ I’m referring to is for the football field, not the full acreages. If I’m not mistaken, the late George Barnette owned part of the land Central now sits on. Maybe that’s the missing 12.5 acres? I have no idea how this was purchased? Politics is why Central is within the city limits. My point is, donations paid for the majority of the football field. Central isn’t the reason for Appalachia ms being closed, a possible swimming pool or someone telling jarhead his child can’t go to Union.
  15. ^ Agree 100%. The Pound community really got shafted. Norton now has 2 high schools.
  16. I just called Union High. Office secretary is named Terri. Union, like Central, is handicap compliant. Union, like Central, also has an elevator. If you have been told different, maybe that person didn’t know what they were talking about? Do you know the person that told you your child could not go to Union because of his disability? I do believe Central and Ridgeview for that matter, have at least one student with cp. If you want to pm me, maybe I can help?
  17. Jarhead, if you can find any illegal conduct, by the WCSB, that took place during the construction of Central, I’m right there with you. I just don’t believe any thing like that happened. You seem to make it sound as though under the table actions built the football field. That’s just not true. Richard Gilliam was paid close to $1 billion for one of his businesses just before his donation. I don’t think he would ruin his life over a $2 million donation. Btw, Army Corp absorbed the majority of the $100+ million Ridgeview project.
  18. When construction was completed, the Central students did not have any football stadium, baseball diamond, track or cross country field. The millions came from Richard Gilliam. Sooooooo basically you’re pissed because $200,000 was spent? Union didn’t have to solicit donars, they just kept playing at one high school’s famous field right?
  19. You should have noticed I only quoted his reply about McAmis donating the equipment. I did not say county money wasn’t spent. My reply was simply confirming a very wealthy McAmis donated equipment being used on a piece of dirt that his grandchildren will benefit from.
  20. ^ True, this is the reason it is now called McAmis field. Dalton Mullins and Isaiah McAmis are two of his grandchildren.
