  1. Placing blame on the coaches would have to go back to the days of the kid playing little league as well. If he played little league. Pretty obvious the referee viewed the coin toss as the most important part of the game. Sounds like everything after the coin toss was meaningless.
  2. Hey Ryan if I knew how to paste that "Shame" video you did to me, I would return the favor here. Lol. This won't be much of a "Brawl" Friday night. After last night Tazewell ' s confidence has to be in the toilet. Their best hope of fielding a competitive team will be in 3 years. Good luck to both teams and to no injuries!
  3. Apparently not only did the kids learn from the Richlands game but the coaches did as well. Tonight was an overall good team effort by the coaches and players. Abingdon come out in the 2nd half and was dead. I was glad to see Cousin get the ball more. Great job by Ballard tonight. He played his best game. Meade is a gamer for sure. Proud of the Gmen!!
  4. I would like to see them throw to Cousin more. To the best of my memory, which isn't very good, they threw to Cousin out of the backfield several times last year. Get him out in space, especially against a team with a good defensive line like Giles had last week. It was all he could do to get back to the LOS on several plays. If we can keep the penalties and turnovers in check I believe it will be a close game. Got to get off the field on 3rd downs.
  5. 35-16 I believe. 35-0 at halftime. Giles drove to Graham 3 yd line and let the clock run out at just before half. Could've called TO and scored again. He put his 2's in starting of 3rd quarter and left them in rest of the game. The kicker from Giles is probably the best 8th grade kicker we've seen this year other than the kid from Richlands. Both of them are very good.
  6. I thought Giles had a pretty good defense. To me that looked better against us than the first game of the season against Blacksburg. By the way tell your middle school staff thanks for not completely wiping our MS out last night. It has been a very long season for those kids and your staff showed a whole lot of class last night.
  7. I would think squats and dead lifts would be something you would really want to ease into.
  8. No it wasn't a Galax 6th grader. Rural Retreat.
  9. I spoke with a dad several months ago at another sporting event. He was bragging on his son, a 6th grader, being able to squat 175lbs. I thought that was a little much for a 6th grader to be doing.
  10. Just curious at what age/grade do most programs in the area allow kids to start lifting weights?
  11. High scoring game. On tape it appears the Sturgis kid is just as good as JLA as far as passing and probably a better runner. That created a problem for Graham against Richlands. I don't know that Abingdon ' s defensive line will be as good as Giles. I'm afraid Graham loses two in a row.
  12. That's a lot of injuries for a team that size to overcome. I hope they can recover and get back on the field. Galax wins.
  13. The referee that threw this flag was a young man that hadn't thrown his flag all night. I'm sure he wanted to make his presence felt......and he did on this play.
  14. Been a while since I had been to Giles for a high school football game and it definitely didn't disappoint. Giles has a great team, staff, and fan base. What an atmosphere for high school football. Giles dominated the LOS battle pretty much all night. I think Graham will match up against Abingdon better than Galax for that reason. Our line just isn't big enough or strong enough to handle a Giles or Galax this year on the LOS. Although the Kastner kid had a pretty good game. To me the difference in the ball game was speed. Giles did a great job containing Cousin and Meade because of the ability to get penetration. Be nice to see the stats for the game. As for Cousin not doing much but "run his mouth like usual" you don't know this kid very well. I've never once heard him talk trash. I'm not saying he doesn't he may very well. I have noticed when you see his head bobbing around after a play and he's talking to another player he's telling him good job, good hit, nice run, etc. Most kids come off the field and talk about him being a very good sport. Off the field it's pretty obvious that his family has done a great job raising him to be a respectful young man.
  15. 106.3 Kicks Country. I believe you can go to kickscountry.com and there is a link to listen online. It's been a while since I've tried online. Someone else may have better info. on that.
  16. If he continues to progress he should be pretty impressive by the time he's a senior. He did well in the middle school game, but that was against kids half his size. I could see where it would be a big adjustment for him this year. I'm sure coach Williams will have in going in the right direction.
  17. Is #42 a freshman? Looks like the same kid we played against last year in middle school.
  18. I agree. When you watch the Giles/Blacksburg game that was shared it looks like Giles does their fair share of "arm tackling". Graham's defense has improved tremendously from previous years especially in the run department. Their pass defense is still a little suspect. Completely shutting the singlewing down is about impossible. I see this as a shootout as well.........Graham wins.
  19. I don't think you can beat a good grass field. I always thought Tazewell had a good field until the last couple of years. It doesn't seem as though they have been doing any maintenance on it. They also play soccer, middle school and little league football on that field as well. In my opinion soccer can be pretty rough on a field, then again that may be because I don't like soccer. The Richlands and Honaker fields are both very nice. They obviously have been taking good care of them unlike Mitchell. If the city of Galax is using Mitchell as an example to push for turf it's only because every time they play us there they run all over us. I'm in favor of a hay field next time yall come to Mitchell.
  20. I am glad you started this topic sixcat. Every single piece of information GMan has shared is absolutely true!!! Upgrades to seating imo is one of the best investments a school system can make. I have recently contacted the school board here about upgrading the seating at both facilities in the county. There is absolutely no handicap seating on the visitors side of either stadium in the county. Very limited and I stress limited handicap seating on the home sides. I spoke with the Asst. Superintendent last year about this issue. He stated the matter would be taken care of. I stressed to him it didn't have to be nothing elaborate just "something" that was wheelchair accessible. Fast forward one year..........nothing. If you're in a wheelchair grab you a spot on the track and look at the backsides of everyone on the sideline. I'm not sure what if anything can be done to improve this situation.
  21. Couple of years ago I had the opportunity of helping coach a Peewee team. We played against a team that was running the Singlewing. They ran it pretty good to be at the Peewee level. Their first offensive possession was about a 70 yard touchdown run. One coach was allowed on the field at the time, and it happened to be me this time. My middle LB, who was a really good ball player, turned around and said "sorry coach I had no idea where the ball was at". I replied "Don't feel bad neither did I". Needless to say the rest of the game was pretty much the same way. The Singlewing has the ability of making a defense look and feel like a dog chasing it's tail and Giles runs it to perfection.
