  1. The kids don't want it and the parents won't tolerate it...good old fashion discipline and accountability have flown the coop!
  2. remember in all this...this is the Scott County School Board known for taking the easiest simple solution and turning it into a 5 alarm fire.
  3. Just a small reminder. Gate City's current situation started this way!
  4. The joke part. We heard a few weeks ago from one of the middle schools player dad that it was probably going to happen! I was hoping it wouldn't but it's a career decision he'd been praying about for well over a year. The Really was all sarcasm!
  5. The program is loaded for 6th grade up. They will have no problem getting quality candidates!
  6. AAU ties for the basketball players, the family has purchased a home and moved to keep a good AAU group together.
  7. A fractured school board botched the coaching hire after Bill Houseright left... Robbie Norris was hired and the board changed his arrangement about his assistant coaches he was bringing with him and then Justin Hilton turned them down and it was into the bushes they went trying to find a head coach. Houseright the elder knew of the talent hole coming and bailed. I don't think any coach living or dead could have gotten any more wins out of the talent but Akers done a scorched earth policy at Gate City it may never recover from it. Like I posted above they have given me the ultimate thrill of seeing 4 State Championships in person and wining 5 overall and some schools would see their souls just for 1..if they never win another I will always be a fan!
  8. Yuma Elementary and Weber City Elementary would be nearly empty without the Tennessee kids.
  9. The Sullivan County situation is getting interesting. There are two stud football players leaving South for Science Hill and two really good basketball players leaving Central for Volunteer and several other athletes that have already transferred to DB. I don't know if any kids have transferred to GC if anyone knows I'd like to find out.
  10. It is easy to hit a low hanging piñata. And that is what GC football is right now. Will it ever return to the glory it once was? Who knows! I know as a fan they have given me so much pleasure that I can endure the pain. Gate City has lost all it's big money boosters and all it's elite athletes play other sports now and the losing has created a sense of apathy. Football evolved and GC football did not and hence the struggle. So when you combine apathy, lack of athletes and no financial support you get what you have now. Always remember Football more than any other sport runs in cycles and the cycle at GC is down right now, and the board is a little more boring without the GC fans!
  11. There was more venom on that site than a caffeinated Copperhead! The angst and bitterness people feel from that site have been taken to many graves in Wise and Dickenson County.
  12. I missed an apostrophe on the 2010..should have been 2010"s...no disrespect to the 2014 squad, who by the way should have at least tied that game in the 4th quarter, QB had two receivers open one at the post and one in the right corner of the endzone and threw into double coverage in the left end. That was the Caleb Herron lead team...like I posted above here's to better days!
  13. My hope as a long time GC alum and fan is that they are respectable again in the next couple of years. The run of talent from the early 90's to the till 2010 was amazing, but lack of interest (from both students and supporters) is just flat scary! Coach Houseright has his work cut out for him! GC is a basketball school now (that happens when you have the leading scorer in VHSL history come through and a future Hall of Fame Coach calling the shots. It is a shame to watch the demise of a true blue blooded program but things change and I am sure the haters are somewhere celebrating but what goes around comes around. Here's to better days and I hope I get to see them!
  14. The New People's Bank parking lot overlooking Legion Field will be prime real estate, as well as the Rocks behind the stadium...but it looks like I will just bite the bullet and pay a subscription to the NHFS and just watch from home!
  15. I just wanted to give a shout out to Prince Kollie. The Davy Crockett senior won the Butkus Award for the best linebacker in high school football, he tallied 109 tackles on defense and ran for 1,562 yards and 26 TD's on offence. Kollie also won the 5A Mr. Football Award given by the Tennessee Titans. Congratulations to a great local product and Notre Dame signee, I will enjoy watching him for the next few years on NBC..
  16. Buck Van Huss had a phenomenal career but never won nothing on a state level....speaking of checking the facts! When someone posts any topic on any sport someone from Powell Valley always comes on here and claims that the discussion begins and ends in Big Stone Gap. These people are then shocked to find out there are other people outside of BSG that actually play sports and by how many other people are better than they are!
  17. Hijacking a thread is the national pastime here...some of best threads in the history of this board are the ones that get taken over by some random comment. You just gotta learn to get over it..
  18. I have seen in person twice and he is legit, I have seen him on TV but you can't watch the way he moves fully on TV you have to watch in person!
