  1. On a serious note. How many of you Union guys ate at the bearded moose? And what did ya eat?
  2. Richlands does not have a good running game, but how many high school teams do you know of that can cover a good 5 wide spread attack? Not many, a few but not many.
  3. It's all about match ups. Graham has struggled against the pass so far this year. Neither team they have played so far has had hardly any passing attack. Graham has a very good offense no doubt about it, very fast. People keep saying Richlands defense is not very good. They are not as good as last year, but Union would run the ball right down about ever SWVA teams throat. Richlands last night went away from what they know the first 3 quarters and finally decided to go back to the bread and butter with 6 mins left. I think Graham is a very good team, but in this one experience out plays speed. Richlands throws the ball all over the field and wins this one 28-21. I may be wrong, but that's my prediction.
  4. I'll give ya credit there. 3 picks the first half. JLA did play a horrible game with some terrible reads but, give credit where credit is do. I stand corrected
  5. Abingdon by a big margin. Gate City has zero pass coverage. Richlands dropped multiple wide open touchdown passes.
  6. Taco salad, smothered burrito, moose track fried, if only they served ice cold beer
  7. It is true Richlands will be wearing new White Helmets friday night?
  8. Yes Mitchell from Union is a good D1 prospect that Virginia Tech will be able to mold that big body into what they want him to be. The Jones Brothers, Heath Miller, the Barber brothers(Roanoke area), Mike Compton, Devon Johnson, Bradshaw, and a few others. They were true D1 athletes. Devon Johnson for example was top of the line around here, if you speak to him now you will see how humble Marshall has made him. He will tell you the difference from High School to College. From D2/3 to D1. Sure he could of went to Emory, Wise, Ferrum, ETSU, and etc and just run the show as running back. His first 2 years at Marshall he wasnt even on the list for Tailback, they said he was to slow and now agile enough. But with his big body they put him at line backer which he also did not start. So what did he do, he hit the weights and the track and became faster and dropped some weight. Im not saying its not possible, but Its all about work ethic like you said and how much heart you have and how bad you want it. Like a great speaker once said, "You have to want to be successful just as bad as you want to breathe." well Mike Compton went on a academic scholarship and grew like a mad man during his first 2 years at WVU until he was awarded a athletic scholarship but that's besides the point.
  9. No doubt about it that Heath Miller is an exceptional athlete. He made a great career. He was a good high school QB but at that level he was a much better fit at TE. Like many other players. Braxton Miller from Ohio State made the transfer from QB to WR and now look at him. There are plenty of other guys also.
  10. JLA is good there is no doubt about it. However, I believe that Justin McCracken is still the best QB that I know of to come through SWVA. Only true D1 prospect. Working out with Alabama, Virginia Tech, Ohio State, Tennessee, Michigan, West Virginia, and plenty of other D1 and D2 schools. However, his SAT and GPA kept him from going to one of those schools which is extremely disappointing. Months after attending Liberty University as QB he decided he was done with football. Im not taking away from John Luke or Sturgle from Abingdon because they are excellent QBs. However, I often hear people say yeah so and so could go play at Tech or Tennessee or blah blah blah. But, a lot of people does not understand what a true D1 prospect is. There is not many in this area. Big fish in a small pond, gets exposed to bigger fish in a much bigger lake. With my time I spent at the Youngstown State University, those guys are some serious athletes and most of the guys Ive watched in SWVA would be the typical average Joe out there. Like I said not taking away from the kids and their passion for the game, but Youngstown to say the less, are Ohio State rejects. I know I am going to get some grief over this post but, just kills me to sit in the stands and here yeah so and so is getting is getting looked at by blah blah blah. Shall the hate begin.

  15. Agreed! Watched some the other day. I like the new defensive and the adjustments the coaching staff has made to adapt. Very fast secondary, and some surprisingly good line backer play.
  16. 1. Richlands 2. Bluefield 3. Union 4. Abingdon 5. Pulaski 6. Graham 7. Galax 8. Giles 9. George Wythe 10. Gate City
  17. Abingdon is going to have a great season. I agree 100% with that. However, Richlands will have the best offense in SWVA possibly the entire state if they can get the RB situation lined out. Richlands D is the question at the moment. Will find out tomorrow as they face Belfry, KY, Pulaski, and George Wythe.
  18. I think its obvious from the past 2 years. Mance isn't going to hand the ball to Landon Lowe.SMH
  19. At the moment 65 for Richlands, someone always quits though.
  20. The Honaker tigers have been a wrecking force throughout 1A football for some time now. There is not a year in which I can remember that they have not went deep into the playoffs. However, as in all competition the deeper you go the stiffer the competition becomes. In more recent years the tigers seem to have much more trouble stopping teams which are running a spread style offense. Is it that they can't stop them or maybe their old school running attack just is not putting up enough points to keep pace. Sure with a pretty easy regular season, facing teams such as: Lebanon, Castlewood, Eastside, Holston, Grundy, Hurley, Northwood, and etc. Running the ball, so to speak down their throat isn't so difficult. However, when you play teams with much better defenses such as: Richlands, Radford, George Wythe, Altavista, Esex, and etc. things didn't go so smoothly as the others. Anyways, lets get to the point. From a very good inside source. The Honaker Tigers will be implementing a new spread style of offense for the upcoming season. As some would say, It's about time. Coach Hubbard an old school kind of guy may need a little help. That's okay though, who better to help than long time Honaker alumni and NFL retire of the Pittsburgh Steelers Heath Miller. My source says they have already began the process, but legal start of summer practice will kick off with a little help of some NFL expertise. A new beginning for football in Honaker. 22. Has the jealousy finally self destructed? Richlands High School upcoming Senior Cody Fuller has officially let the cat out of the bag. From a undisclosed source he has officially enrolled at Bluefield High School. The question is why? Well, it's known that there may be some lost love being his father is the former Richlands High School varsity boys basketball coach. Fred Phillips led the Richlands Blue Tornado from a 10-18 losing season to near State Tourny clinching 17-5 winning season. Bringing back all starting 5 and almost the whole bench to make a run at what could be close to the season of 1985 near perfect season. Having talent all around the ball, yet losing a great shooter. Questionable move if you ask me. Leaving who you have been synchronized with from childhood. Very questionable. How bad will it really hurt though? Awaiting his position the outstanding shooter Grant Herndon who is a much more consistent on a night to night basis. I assume the Richlands VS Beaver games will be much more intriguing now that there is blood in the water. Via Your inside scoop.
