  1. I do not know the exact system that the Appalachian Official Association uses to select officials for playoff games; but logical speaking, I would assume they would want the best of the best to participate in the playoffs. With the same knowledge and logic used in this thread, if you are not the best, then you are not deserving.
  2. If you are trying to come up with a catch all format, then the only way to do that is to "catch 'em all." With that said, we are speaking in terms of Region D and its governing body as to how to handle the playoff system in SWVA. Region B 1a would probably benefit from every team qualifying every year based on your assessment. As their schedules are filled with 2a,3a,4a teams. Even in our area, If galax were to play a tradition 2a schedule much like Union would, they would be a SUBpar team based on record. (Ridgeview, Central, Lee, Abingdon, Gate City, Richlands, etc.) Its a crap shoot and as BFresearcher said the emphasis on schedule at the 1a level is invalid due to the diversity. 2a might be a different story, but using the extreme bias that 1a is to justify a playoff system is questionable at the least.
  3. Why not keep what we have but if you are the 4-8th teams (You must have a winning record to qualify). Serves a purpose and allows the "deserving" teams a chance to play. Either way, the schools with Killer schedules are going to adjust to the playoff system and schedule accordingly. That way the top heavy districts (Mountain 2013-2016) wont suffer as much.
  4. I believe Graham has received the grace of this system far more than Thomas Walker has. Until recently, we could not win a game therefore we couldnt qualify for the playoffs under ANY system.
  5. Refer to Bluefield researcher post on 9-0-1 teams and one loss teams, as to why the old system is a failure.
  6. How is that "little league-ish," Is being unfair what really wrong with this society and what governed who should or should not play in the playoffs? Or is it the fact that we are so stuck on ourselves that we can not accept reason? Edit Im done with this argument. I have explain my rational of why I enjoy this playoff system and I strongly bash the old system. If you have a problem, its extremely easy to find out who I am and come talk to me.
  7. Tell that to Blacksburg. Nostalgia really is a stupid argument. That system was extremely flawed and excluded teams from actually proving themselves in the playoffs against common competition that could adapt. Basically you want an easy road for a powerhouse team, while everyone else suffers, seem "valid." Just say it, because how the Old system was actually watered down the playoffs and had 0 honor to them. I value the new state championships more than any other, it proves you survived the gauntlet and that you had depth developed to actually win. Edit: I do not trust our officials enough to make regular season game hold that much weight on a teams future. Atleast in the playoff games you get the seasoned officials who "might" have a clue as to what they are doing.
  8. Injuries are injuries, Proving yourself again are what the playoffs are all about. Why run away from competition (1a aside)?
  9. I don't see any positives from a playoff system with 4 teams or less. Nostalgia is not a valid arguement. Injuries is not a valid arguement as they affect both. Better games? They still happen just a week or two later. Saying a team deserves or doesn't deserve is idiotic, let them play IF THEY HAVE A WINNING record.
  10. Both Tazewell and Gate city are losing, the difference. Tazewell has a visible future, Gate city's future isn't as clear
  11. I second that, Grundy is better than any Cumberland team, and Chilhowie is the only team I see in their way. However I am using the transitive property here
  12. Just my 2 cents Wishbone is meant to attack the Middle and the Sideline. Need a workhorse Fullback and mobile QB. Midline Veer with buck series compliment that attacks the outside. T formation is meant to attack multiple gaps inside the tackles. Need Faster Backs, QB need EXCELLENT FAKES. Double Dive Better Lead Off tackle. Its easy to say that Philip Haywood at belfry runs this better than any high school coach in the country. He runs the Wing T option a large amount of the time, but has dabbled in all three offenses (Wing T, T, and Wishbone.) And as far as Blocking schemes go. G.o.o.d. G.o.d. seems to be the new flavor of the month, an Improvement over G.O.D.
  13. 14 - 6 twhs with great return and punches it in on the short field.
  14. 7 - 6 twhs 230 to go in the half
  15. Quarters then. College distracts you in more ways than one.
  16. Only in basketball, I was fortunate to beat them at their best. The year before their final four run. However the benefit game format must change or the games will end.
  17. I won't say a lot, out of respect for the coaching staff. What I will say, Is the excitement and forecast for the pioneers looks bright for the next few years. Our goal at the start of the season was a playoff birth. We have some work to do but this is not your typically TWHS team.
