I don’t know how far Graham will go this year but I think the difference between Graham & some other teams is Coach Palmer and his staff have those boys going into every game with a winning mentality. I think a lot of folks figured with the Seniors that Graham lost last year that Graham would struggle to fill the shoes of Turner-Bradshaw, Zach Blevins, Brody Meadows, etc. The GMen of 2022 have risen to the occasion. Coaches have to create a winning culture, Tony Palmer has done that at Graham. He’s got a great mixture of knowledge guys on his staff. Those boys would run through a brick wall for their coaches. They have them at it all year long. They lived in the weight room during the off-season. I think the team is also reaping those benefits especially at the LOS. Even with the loss of last year’s Senior class, the ones left have stepped up , “Winning Culture”. Football is as much a head game & physical game. When a team gets off the bus thinking they are going to lose, they will. If a team believes they will win (whether they do or not) , their chances are greatly improved, lol.

If I were guessing I’d say Graham/Central Friday night due to the fact Mitchell is shared with Bluefield State & Bluefield University. They play on Saturdays. As soon as it’s official though, I’ll share if no one else has.

I hope Tazewell shows up big & sends Ridgeview into basketball season. It all depends on their frame of mind but I’d like the see all SWD teams advance. I’d also add Jones to the list of top QBs in SWVA.

I don’t know anything about Lee’s QB but Jones in my opinion is one of the best overall QB in SWVA. What he does comes naturally, he’s an athlete. He can throw deep with accuracy & he can squirm out several yards when he needs to on the ground. With that said, it could be a barn burner and come down to the last play of the game.

I think GC will be hard pressed to beat Union again. It may be a close one but I think Union has gotten much better since their first game and GC may find it hard to recover from last week to pull out the win even at home.

Except for Ridgeview, haven’t Central’s other losses been by one score? Theoretically, they could as easily be 9-1 as 4-6??? Maybe their record isn’t an indicator of their ability??? The game being at Mitchell on a Friday night gives Graham a good hometown advantage. I feel like GMen will come out ready to play Central as tough as they are capable. As long as Graham doesn’t turn it over & have 200+ penalty yardage, I think GMen will probably face Union in round 2 which seems to be the norm lately in the playoffs.

I guess we’ll finally see the O’Quinn/Creasy showdown! Should be a good one!

Hey, y’all’s theatre team did great from what the announcer said & the halftime show was excellent by the band. I love me some football but there are other activities that can bring notoriety to a school. Congratulations to your theatre team & good luck to them the rest of the way if there’s more competitions.

One game at a time as much as I’d like a rematch with King William with a fully healthy team, there’s a lot football before then and no game is a given. GMen have to bring their best every game. I was pleased we didn’t have 100+ yards in penalties.

I agree. It would be hard to go back to a program struggling to stay afloat much less a not having a winning record in years. Winning isn't everything but we can all agree that it's more fun than losing especially losing a lot.
