Not sure whats going on woth VHS. Ive watched a couple games on NFHS and they were struggling with scoring points recently, against Lebanon and Marion. Maybe another team as well. Shouldnt say struggling, but compared to what theyve put up most of the year. Marion moved the ball pretty well through the air. But i think they had 6 turnovers. I Believe it was 21-0 at half. If VHS plays to their ability it shouldn't be close. And if they don't have any kids out. This is one of the worst Richlands teams ive seen. They're definitely not bottom feeders. They seem to play better in the second half. So if it's close at halftime, anything could happen.
So, VA High scored 35 against Lebanon on Tuesday night game, and 48 on a rain soaked game against Marion, and that was struggling to score points?
Richlands stays home abs discipline defense, they have a chance. VHS living on big plays and very little d. Marion exposed weakness and drove it 5x before turning it over in the red zone.
VA High was also missing its main defensive player..but yes they were driving the ball and committed 8 turnovers?
Amen. Been harping on that for years. The amount of athletes that have came thru Union at the skill positions and not been given a chance to contribute significantly is numerous. The weirdest thing is, Turner wasn't always so dead set on the T. Union used to run way more gun and created way more space for their athletes but Turner seems to be stuck the last few years. Unless you're Riverheads and can dominate th LOS every game and play mistake free football, you need to be able to attack a defense in multiple ways. Even Riverheads will throw some. Old school Giles ran a successful system but it's so much harder to win around here against teams built to stop the run. Wise does it well but does anyone see Wise winning a state title without throwing the ball to compliment their run game? I don't. Graham can do it because they can attack you inside, on the edge, in the flat, the seams, on the outside, etc... I'm not sure they'll win it all but they have the best chance because they are so much harder to game plan against compared to a Union.
A Ridgeview fan understand the pain perfectly, you guys have the best passing attack around. Use it!
Has Union proved they can throw the ball effectively at all. I know Bunch is a hell of a basketball player, and is an athlete, but in the games I have seen, he doesn’t throw the ball exactly well. Maybe the coaches know this, so you see limited throw game. I have seen people talk about Jenkins, but he hasn’t exactly lit it up on a consistent basis. Maybe they could throw more short game to him, but I would trust a former FCSQB and his knowledge of offense than a message board or parent. Maybe they will open it up more in the playoffs?
It would, but there's one catch. They aren't beating Va High. Won't be close. Bad, bad, bad matchup for the Blues who are really struggling, and VH is rolling and has a crap ton of speed, and Richlands other than Webb, once you get to the second level, they are very slow. VH by 4 touchdowns. Not going to be a close game, and no disrespect to the Blues who I hope get good again soon, but it's just not happening this year.
Richlands best chances against a team that is better than them is one that would be a run oriented team that passes very little, and doesn't put it in the air much. Va High has everything that Richlands struggles with...........speed, and not just speed, spreading you out in open space forcing you to contain that speed. The matchup is a nightmare for Richlands. Richlands I think would play Central closer than VH just because of the matchup. In this game, watch for VH to just toss sweep left, toss sweep right, pitch left, pitch right, and the running back will get the corner 9 out of 10 times and it comes down to whether Webb can make the touchdown saving tackle, in which he will most of the time, but he can't be in perfect position every play, and sooner or later, Richlands will get caught with it. Calpreps only has this game at 41-27 in favor of VH. I think Calpreps gets this one a lot more wrong than they are right.
I am a VA High fan, and can tell you this game will be very close. VA High hasn’t beaten Richlands in 22 years. Richlands is more physical up front and we are limping in with some key injuries.
This game is for second place in the district and it is going to be cold.
Christ has only been at Radford for this season, but as a Radford fan I can tell you there is talk. The thing with the player outside the locker room last night at half time didn't sit well. We've had two games this year where he had big leads, outplayed the opponent by a decent amount and somehow lost. I hope we turn it around next year, but I'm beginning to have my doubts now. I wanted the Va High fans to be wrong when they discussed this early in the year on here. I'm beginning to wonder now
FoxTrot, what about round 2. I understand that round 3, the region title game is determined by power points. But what about round two. Take the following scenario, and just an assumption, tell me who Graham would play in round two if the following occurs in Round 1.
1 Graham vs 4 Gate City (Graham wins) 2 VA High vs 3 Ridgeview (Ridgeview wins) 2 Union vs 3 Richlands (Union wins) 1 Central vs 4 Tazewell (Central Wins)
Who does Graham play in round two if the above happens? Does Graham get to play the lowest remaining seed left for round two which would be Ridgeview, or does Graham automatically play the winner of one of the other 2 games?
I don't know. Just going by what UVAObserver posted in the Ridgeview vs Bluefield thread. He wrote that if RV were to lose to Bluefield, then RV would be the 3 seed, Union the 2, and Central 1. My question is, does this do anything with Tazewell and Richlands. Richlands lost tonight and Tazewell won. My understanding is from what I've read, they are taking the top 4 in each district by power ranking, not district record?
District record is what AD and principals have explained. Power points do not come into play until 3rd round host.
That's a good question! I'm assuming that the winner of the M7-#1/SWD-#4 would take on the winner of the SWD-#2/M7-#3 . And vice versa with SWD-#1/M7-#4. Higher seed hosts.
And then Rd 3 would be the higher seed remaining hosts the lower seed. In the event both teams are the same seed, I would imagine the team with the higher PP rating would host.
That's just a guess.
In the event you have same seeds from District Standings, it goes to power points for the HOST!
And please don't try to school me on Delaney he's just as fast as Stevie or maybe even faster, I watch the kid grow up I even graduated with his mother
Well, I can beg to differ. I think the results in Team Summer Speed trials speak for themselves. No one is trying to school you on Delaney or Stevie. What school you do need is that BRADSHAW is the fastest, most athletic kid on the field anytime he steps up on it. Very proud of both of those kids, and also that “POOR” Bearcat Defense you are a fan of!
You can assume all you want but it's in the record book in district and regions last season in track Thomas, Delaney and Poku all beat Bradshaw so that's a false statement that he's the fastest you seen

Just a few thoughts from last night. GHS coaching staff and players made one heck of an in game adjustment to stop VH's offense. Looked as though it was going to be a track meet at first. Bradshaw is still the fastest on the field that I've seen so far this year. Again, Graham cut down on the dumb penalties!! It was one of those games that even though you have a big lead you didn't ever feel comfortable until there just wasn't enough time for a comeback. V-High is a very good team with some great athletes. Graham is just playing great football and clicking on all cylinders now. Looking forward to see how the G-Men match up at Pulaski!
I agree with this statement. VA High fought for the most part, but Graham was definitely the more physical team. Bradshaw is more than electric, and cannot be covered 1 on 1, and why in the world was the ball kicked to him. I look forward to seeing Graham grow down the road, they will have a chance to get to the end. VA High has an overall ways to go, but hopefully the kids learned from playing in “BIG” game.
I watched quite a bit of track this past spring. Stevie Thomas is significantly faster in the 100m than the others….won Region with an 11.27…Lomax finished at 11.7. Jenkins didn’t run track (baseball kid), Webb didn’t run track but I seriously doubt he’s better than 11.27 and Beavers was VHSL State runner up in the 400…..looks like he didn’t runs the 100-200. Doesn’t look like Bradshaw ran track as well. Just checked and Thomas finished 6th at VHSL in 100m with an 11.1……pretty dang fast gents. For the eye test…Bradshaw and Thomas hit their high end quicker than the others. Jenkins/Webb not too far behind. Beavers is a classic long strider…get him in first 10-15 yards before that stride turns over. Good thing about track….numbers don’t lie. Oh…the younger Thomas finished Top 12 in State with an 11.7 and he was as just a freshman (sophomore this season).
Graham by 21 at least. VA high is good, but no where near graham good. All they have to do is contain that speed they have, and I believe graham will do that. I’ll probably go watch this game instead of going to watch the dawgs!

Thomas is a senior right? Once he leaves what do they have coming up??
They lose 3 seniors...Everyone is back outside of that, and there is players that will stip into the RB roll... won't be Thomas, but can run, and be a little more physical....
This is the type of game that V-High needs to play before the playoffs get here. They can gauge where they stand and how hard they need to work. They certainly have the talent.
Union and Graham are currently the teams to beat and they have the advantage over the others. Can they be beaten?, of course. 2 weeks ago, I would have said that Va High would put up 21 - 28 points. Now? I'm not so sure, Graham has some new pieces on defense and a couple of young linemen that are starting to understand their role better on the defense. If Virginia High puts up 21 - 28 this week, if I were Graham's coaches, I would worry about how they are coming along on defense. I think Graham holds them to 20 or less and I would expect a score something along the lines of 41-20 or 38-17 (ballpark guess). Like I said, if V High is close or they score a bunch of points, Graham should worry about the defense not being where they need to be right now. But from what I have seen the past 2 contests, the tackling has improved and the linebackers are not over-pursuing as much. I saw very few missed tackles and they were tackling better and wrapping up better. They did over-pursue a bit against Bluefield on a few pitch plays and they got burned, but overall the defense looks to be improving. Minor improvements for Graham, still. There is still some "reaching" going on when they try to tackle on occasion, also. The athleticism on defense is there, just need some guidance.
I just don't think VA. High is all that great the only game I seen on tv their offense looked great but the defense looked awful and last weeks game everyone was talking about how bad Spotswood or ever who they were playing was awful and they struggled with them so not sure why anyone thinks this will be close. I'll give someone 14 points and VA. High for a McRib when they come out
Graham and Union are the BEST!!! Everyone in the region should bow down…Is that what you think? Graham is much better than VA High, but I would bet VA High can put up 21-28 points!
