In an earlier post, @Union_Fan ran three different scenarios with the Va High-Marion winner finishing 6th and the loser 8th. Lee finished 7th in all three.

Richlands Alum has the best insight into Liberty-Bedford football, but I'll share what I know which includes:
1. L-B is the only Class 2 member of the always brutal Seminole District. The school was denied entry to the Dogwood District, which consists of Class 1 and 2 teams.
Seminole District
Team, VHSL Class, Enrollment
Amherst County, Class 4, 931
Brookville, Class 3, 719
E.C. Glass, Class 4, 1020
Heritage (Lynchburg), Class 3, 813
Jefferson Forest, Class 4, 952
Liberty (Bedford), Class 2, 551
Liberty Christian Academy, Class 3, 450
Rustburg, Class 3, 595
2. In addition to their district schedule, the team played three difficult out-of-district opponents this season (i.e. William Byrd, Glenvar, Staunton River)
3. The team hasn't won a game since Week 3 of 2021, which, of course, impacts the quality and quantity of participants.
4. The school did produce quality teams in the 00s, but has been unable to replicate the success for the past dozen or so years.

I thought Tweeder was still in prison for giving Percocet, Vicodin and beer to underage girls.
-
Steve Marsee was one the best basketball players in SWVA history. He set the VHSL career scoring record in 1976 playing for the Pennington Bobcats. He scored 2,459 points in just 93 games before the advent of the three-point line. He's in both the VHSL and Lincoln Memorial University Hall of Fames.

I heard Blacksburg forfeited to give the turf time to recover for Radford's postseason.
-
Is the arrogance of this Salem Times-Register sportswriter indicative of the program in general?

IF I'm calculating this correctly...
Radford had 213 points for Week 10. We know 156 are from 13 first-place votes, leaving 57 points from the other seven voters.
-Scenario #1-All seven voted for Radford with an average rank of 4.9
-Scenario #2-Only six voted for Radford with an average rank of 3.5
Compare these results to the previous week when the Bobcats finished first. Those not voting Radford at #1 gave them an average rank of 2.7.
-
Radford gets 13 of 20 1st place votes yet finishes 2nd. Somebody must have left them off their ballot.

I found some old newspaper articles in the BDT and BHC.
The first season in Richlands for:
Cody Parnell was 2009.
Cody Lockhart was 2010.
Nick Blankenship was 2015.
-
IINM, I read that Baker only played 7 games in 2012 before getting hurt, as well.
-
Despite the occasional transfer before '09, the arrival of Johnsons clearly ushered in a new era. It was from that point forward where multiple transfers were making significant contributions. For example, a transfer was Richlands' QB-1 for like 4 of 5 seasons from '09 to '13 with Cody Johnson (Big Creek), Cody Lockhart (Tazewell), and Gray Baker (Graham). With Devon Johnson at RB/LB from '09 to '11 and others, this was clearly a different era from the virtually homegrown '05 to '07 teams.
-
I always got the impression from some of the Richlands' members on here that those early-to-mid-00 teams were virtually all home-grown.
-
From my recollection, Mance's first 12 seasons (1997-2008) consisted of home-grown talent. IINM, the Johnson clan's (Big Creek) first season was 2009. From that point on (2009-19), there always seemed to be several transfers on the roster, primarily from neighboring schools (e.g., Tazewell, Graham, Honaker).
Ironically, Richlands had more success at the state-level without transfers (one title, two runner-ups) than they did with them (two runner-ups).
