Over the years, it seems more coaches are getting into "flexible" positions. Ones that don't really impact students' standardized testing.
These positions allow the coaches to take care of their team responsibilities throughout the day without loss of instructional time. I've noticed that Scott Co has several assistant principals that coach. Yet another position that can basically be vacated on any given day to tend to coaching duties.
Being a school administrator at a high school is more difficult than being a teacher.
Do any of our local officials ever get to work the state championship games? I haven't recognized a single official yet. I know we all like to complain about them but I would be that ours down in this part of the state are just as good as the ones out east.
The officials for the Auburn/Lancaster game was an AOA crew.
Eastside was the 1 seed so they got to choose the venue
Honaker could have chosen UVA-Wise to keep the teams together. It wasn't like it was a totally new court to them, since they had already played in the holiday tournament there.
I don't think I've seen this discussed on here, but why did Honaker with both their girls' and boys' teams playing, choose to split their crowd by not playing at UVA-Wise?
50? I’d give 100 if JM truly wanted to make a statement. It’s insane, the gap between the west and the east. In my lifetime, this is as bad as it’s been in 2D. A lot of decently good teams but no truly good team.
and @Gridiron60 I don’t believe Union will beat VHS. Union struggles in the half court and VHS should have no real issues scoring. Union played ultra slow tonight, I dunno why. If they do that against a better shooting team in VHS, it could get out of hand.
John Marshall beat a good 2A Radford team 91-34 last year in the title game, so there is no way anyone stays within 50 this year. They don't let up.
I would imagine that schedules are made a year in advance. Sure it would be nice to invite defending district, region, and state championship teams, but how many of those are interested in playing in the combined 1D/2D regional tourney? You want it to grow, you gotta figure out a way to get some top tier teams to come in. If they can't compete against others of at least equal talent, they won't. As far as recruiting local talent, it's the same in every sport it seems with UVA-Wise. At the same time, and no offense to anyone, but the 1D/2D stat leaders might not be exactly what they're looking for. Good or even great amongst SWVA may not be good enough to impact the game even at the level of UVA-Wise. Their coach used to be an old P.H. Rebel but I'm not sure now, I don't keep up with it much anymore.
What needs to grow? This tourney serves the purpose it was intended for, to provide local teams and local fans a holiday tournament against regional competition in a facility that is second to none.
What makes you say that? Personally I’d much rather pay 10 dollars to watch decent teams in our area play compared to paying 15 dollars to watch decent teams not from our area play. Just felt more boring watching the Arby’s this year compared to recent years (only games that I thought that were entertaining were the GW games).
There sure are a lot of teams that participate in it and and a lot of fans that attend it for it to be a "joke".
I think people need to quit jumping to conclusions.
I understand why people are upset. People assume that they canceled the parade for the game.
It would be better if people waited for an explanation.
From what I'm seeing and hearing, the cancelling of the parade didn't have anything to do with the football game. All this uproar could have been avoided if the person who made the post for the Town of BSG had given a reason for cancelling.
The Veterans Day parade was scheduled for Saturday in Big Stone at 11. Because the game was moved to Saturday the town of Big Stone canceled the Veterans Day parade. A lot of people are understandably upset.
As they should be. Why can't they work it out to have both?
I'm watching this Rye Cove at Twin Springs game on the NFHS network, and the PA announcer is clearly doing play-by-play, even encouraging the Titans. That's not legal by VHSL rules is it?
