No offense, but I think you need to rewatch on NFHS. The Meadows kid absolutely OBLITERATED the Union Center play after play. When he lined up to the right side, he obliterated their left guard and when he lined up slightly to the left side, he obliterated their right guard. Meadow's work on the defensive line is the reason the Union QB was under pressure every time he dropped back to pass. He completely took the interior (off guard run) off the table for Union for 4 quarters. Union had it's success around the ends and off tackle. Meadows didn't have a bad day or decent day, he had a remarkable game changing day. Just like he did as a sophomore against Appo down there on the road. Watch that tape what he did to the kid from Appo for 4 quarters. Graham has a possible All American Candidate on the line. All-American candidates are rare and they don't come around but every so often in SWVA. Meadows is that good.
I know he got the better of my son a time or two. One I would say was clearly hands to the face (about ripped his helmet off) and another was a highlight film for him LOL (very next play).
From what I have watched so far (14-13 in the game right now) I think he did well. Hard to beat a kid when your giving up 40+ lbs and 5-6 inches of height.
I know in the second half I think Graham only got 3 first downs if I remember correct.
Be nice to the Raider truck if you see it in Bluefield on Saturday.
If you see the Raider A and SMITH STRONG please leave the tires alone. Looking forward to seeing your home field as I'll be there for my sons college game (Georgetown College)
Hitting the Railyard for lunch is the plan provided 81 flows well.
Rough for an O line guy or a defensive guy to get an award like that (not saying that some don't deserve it). It will ALWAYS be an offensive and skill player award. Kind of like the Heisman, you can't tell me the best player in college football is always (for the most part) a receiver or QB.
Because of lack luster internet I can't stream games so I don't have the luxury of seeing the games.
If Appomattox is healthy they will be a tough out for anyone but that is not to say it won't happen. IF we can make it through Region C I think it could be a great semi final match up. Just hope we don't have to go to BSG AGAIN!! LOL!
But there is a lot of hurdles between now and then,.
So as a Appomattox Raider I haven't made the trip to Bluefield yet but that is about to change. My son will be playing against Bluefield College (he's at Georgetown College in KY) on Saturday the 25th.
Game time is 2:30 that afternoon so we are planning to get there around 11:30 to catch some lunch before the game. We have a couple cars loads of Raider fans coming down so I'm looking for some suggestions of a good local place not too far from the stadium.
I think I saw where you can buy tickets at the gates from the game. If you know differently please tell me. LOL
Looking forward to seeing the stadium I've heard about from the Graham folks.
I have a hard time seeing anyone from Region D run with a fully healthy Appomattox team. I think Appomattox A vs a region D winners A is a solid 17-20 points better.
Not so sure about that. Appomattox can be a handful for most any team WHEN they are at full strength. Not sure if that will happen right now. If they can't get Lawing back thats a big hit for them. Backup is a good athlete and a better passer in my opinion but you don't just take the 2A player of the year and replace him especially as good as he is on defense.
If we can get back to full strength it should be a great game between us and Region C folks and even better if we get the chance to face Region D.
you are right, but the single wing or whatever they ran confused our d coach, that along with the D END BEING HURT DIDNT help......oh yeah the refs cheated us wink wink wink.BETTER TEAM THAT DAY!!!!!
I was surprised when I saw they beat yall as bad as they did.
I could be in the minority — but I loved the 16 team era.
Richlands had fun matchups with teams we’d never seen before like Wilson Memorial, Buckingham Co., Appomattox & Stuart’s Draft.
Loved all of those road trips (and seeing Buckingham come to Ernie Hicks).
I'm with ya. I liked the added excitement of playing someone new.
Oh my, now that was a drive, over the hills and through the woods. Clarke had a good field but no stands, well not enough for Union. We were outplayed that day , our d coach was clueless about their offense, we’re we a better team…..not that day, In the end it was toooo far to travel for a SEMI final game, right at 380 miles and 6 hours
I’m sure you Appo folks do, lol! Just picking at ya!
Yea that 267mile trip, putting the kids in a hotel, when you’re the one seed was kinda rough. That’s ok though, great atmosphere and made the win all the sweeter.
If/When Union figures out how to do what they want offensively with Jenkins, Lomax, Saterfield, + on the field at the same time watch out! Lots of talent there. Solid Defense too.
Central didnt lose as much as people seem to think and they have gained a lot of experience over the past few seasons. Theyre still in the running.
Graham is LOADED and always a contender.
In Region C
Appomattox is Appomattox (LOADED)
Buckingham is supposed to be very talented
In the East
Poquoson was young last season and returns just about everything. From what I watched of them last season they have some potential.
When we brought the horn the guidelines were that we could not blow it when Appo had the ball. We blew it when Giles came out, and when we scored. Appo fumbled the ball and we recovered it and blew the horn and got shut down for that. This all stems from the 2013 playoffs where Appo claimed that the horn beat them. However, it was actually an undefeated State Champion football team that beat them.
Yea, I've heard about that game.
Like I said I enjoyed the horn and thought it added to the game experience. I can see how it could be used to sway a game though and only should be used at appropriate times. In saying that, I wouldn't have an issue with it being used after big plays like turnovers though.
That doesn’t surprise me. No offense, but Appo is maybe the states biggest whiner when it comes to noise/atmosphere lol. Banning inflatables and visiting bands hasn’t given them a sterling reputation.
LOL!
I know there has been discussion on here in the past over the train horn. Personally I love it but do feel that it shouldn't be used while the opposing offense is on the line.
Now cow bells....One person ringing a bell cant influence a game like one person operating a train horn during "inappropriate" times. I say ring all the bells as loud and hard as you can.
I've loved the two trips to the Gap and the atmosphere that is there, I think Appo help their own with noise both times we were down there.
I will say that our band has been told they can't play while the other offense is trying to call plays (because of the rule I guess) and I guess they expected the same from other teams.
I know Giles was allowed to bring their train horn but from what I understood there was guidelines on blowing it. We have a horn as well. It gets blown when the kids enter and after scores.
